Three defensive starters for Jags miss practice
AP Sports
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jaguars could be without three defensive starters Saturday night at New England .
Linebacker Mike Peterson and defensive ends Reggie Hayward and Paul Spicer missed practice Tuesday and were listed as questionable for the wild-card game against the two-time defending champion Patriots .
Peterson sprained his right wrist Sunday against Tennessee and was wearing a cast Tuesday. Coach Jack Del Rio said Peterson had a joint problem in his wrist, but that it wasn't broken.
Hayward (hamstring) and Spicer (broken left hand) didn't play against the Titans in hopes of getting ready for the postseason.
Peterson leads the team with 190 tackles, and has six sacks and three interceptions. Hayward has a team-high 8 1/2 sacks and 57 quarterback pressures. Spicer has 7 1/2 sacks.
The Jaguars already are without safety Donovin Darius , the team's defensive captain who is on injured reserve after knee surgery. The team also lost backup safety and special teams captain Nick Sorensen (knee) and center Brad Meester (biceps) for the season.
But losing three more starters could be devastating for the Jaguars .
"Any loss is a big loss," Del Rio said. "I think we've done a great job of basically having the next guy step in and play well. We've done a good job of understanding that it doesn't do us any good to feel sorry for ourselves.
"We've had a lot of guys go down ... and we just have had a lot of different guys that have had to step up and play well, and we're going to need the same Saturday if in fact those guys end up not being able to go."
