Throwing a game to get a better playoff matchup (1 Viewer)

If I intentionally lose week 14 I will go from the #1 seed to the #2 seed and get a much easier opponent in week 15 in the first playoff game. Has anyone ever done this or is this just an unfair and poor sportsmanship?

Using your words.......anytime you "throw" a game, that's bad sportsmanship. You have to decide how bad you want to win and at what cost.

I personally don't like to win that way. If you have the best team, they'll take care of business and you can win with your head up.

What a unique question that I have never heard asked before. I think this will spark a quality debate with informed opinions from both sides of the argument and ultimately the issue will be resolved.

I never did it and never will..but in all my years of playing FF..yes some do it...but it can backfire too..depends.

Real competitors seek out the toughest opponents, they thrive on the competition.

This just shows you are not a competitor.

Look at the bright side, I'm sure once we all come to an answer once, future posters will just use the search function and we won't have it come up again.

If you do it subtley, there's essentially no way of being penalized. That's what i've learned from this board.

Everytime I've ever seen someone do this it completely blew up in their face. Wanting a certain match-up in fantasy football (easily the least challenging fantasy sport and the one most based on luck) is not always going to work.

:lol:This has been discussed ad nauseum. The answer you already know: you're a ########; but unless there are rules against it you probably won't be booted from your league. You'll just be that sackless ##### that threw a game and still lost in the first round.

I think someone in my league is doing exactly the same this week but I can't see why. Here's the scenaario:

Team A 9-3............1st Seed locked up as his total points scored is way higher than anyone else. He looks like he's going to win this week anyway

Team B 8-4

Team C 7-4-1 (no fratcional pts so a tied game)..............Me, incidently

Team D 7-4-1

Team E 6-6

Team B and D are playing this week and Team D has posted an empty lineup. I've seen a few guys leave the lineup empty before games have started because they don't want to give anything away. I don't understand why but there are no rules that say you set your lineup well in advance of kickoff. But the guy is a keen player and Barber is his #1 RB so its unlikely that he'd sit him.

So, Team D will finish as the 4th seed at worse and could climb above me if I lose this week (quite possible).

Now I don't condone this but it actually benefits me. I would much rather being the Seed 3 or even 2 and avoid a matchup with Team A in the 2nd playoff round, if I get there.

Obviously, he can still submit a full lineup for Sundays game but I'm just a bit confused. Perhaps I'll give him the benefit of doubt and assume he was too tied up with family stuff yesterday to change the lineup.
