Tiger Woods (4 Viewers)

Yes.  And he's talking about his iron-play over the course of his entire career.  But again, he's 43 and the last I checked, getting older every day.
With all the fast running and high jumping he’s going to have to do to keep winning, you’re right, the clock is ticking.

Seriously, with modern medicine, Tiger has another solid 5-10 years left in him.  And because his game is no longer based on an athletic advantage — it’s all skill and knowledge and savvy — I don’t see why he can’t continue to be a top competitor.

I'd like to point out (since we seem to have gotten off topic), I don't disagree with your statement.  Phil is a top competitor.  So is Poulter.  And Furyk.  There are a lot of old guys who are competing and doing great.  But dominant?  No.  And that's what I said.

We'll that's nice

But not really what you asked earlier
It was exactly what I asked.  How many people were as good or better over such a stretch.  But sure, you wanna count that Ricky stretch, go for it.

So far we’ve name the pinnacle of their careers for like 4 of the top golfers in the world.  That’s Tiger’s current run.  At age 43.  With multiple back surgeries, and after the FFA deemed him “finished.”

List ‘em up if there are lots of other runs like this.  Love to see a full list.

Yes, golf doesn't affect the old.  That's why there are so many winners of majors that are his age or older.
Turns out that medicine and conditioning are a little different from what they were 30 years ago.  And Tiger is a little different from your average pro golfer.

But sure, let’s make more bets in here.  Happy to have everyone’s money.

Too lazy. Look up any great golfer's wiki page and they'll likely have some dominant major runs. Phil went 1-1-2 for a stretch in 2006, 1-2-3 in 2004. Guys like Els and Vijay have had dominant stretches. Even Jim Furyk had some big time runs.

I think you're confusing me for someone else, GB.  I'm fairly sure I haven't said anything negative about Tiger in this thread for probably 5 years, at least.  I'm honestly just trying to have a normal conversation.

There can’t be that many in the past 20 years.  Probably we could count them on two hands?

And here’s the best part: those were the pinnacles of these other guys’ careers.  When they were at their very peak.  This is Tiger finally starting to put together his game again after a decade.  That’s absolutely astounding.

Sorry GB.  Target-rich environment.

Probably 15-20 guys. For sure this last run by Tiger is astounding.

Its kind of like posting the politics forum, this thread.

If you're not in the TIGER IS GOD camp you're a hater.

If you don't post TRUMP IS THE DEVIL every day you're a Trumper

It's true.  I said the same thing earlier.  I wrote a post thinking it would be fun to discuss the topic on this board and was immediately attacked for being a non believer.

Look at what you highlighted.  Sure, he's 3rd in the world right now for ball striking.  But he's like 51st for driving distance.  So for "length and ball striking", yes, he's average.
He's 4 yards behind Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson who actually smash the ball off the tee!

OMG...what is Tiger going to do??????

What are you talking about?  I said he wasn't the elite "length and ball strking" golfer he was 20 years ago.  What does being 4 yards shorter than DJ and Rahm have to do with anything?

It's funny.  Are you still upset with me from 5 years ago?  Honestly, guy, let it go.  I'm all good.  We can be cordial, GB.  You don't have to pretend you're still angry with a fictional character on the internet because of something he said back in 2005.  It's all good, brother.  But seriously, go back and read what I wrote.  It should help you from posting idiotic stuff like this in the future.

Where does anything in my post lead you to believe I'm upset with you.  Honestly don't even remember what happened.  My post was simply point out that you said:

My only point was that there is only 4 yards difference between being 51st and in the top 20 with all of the other young guns.  So the fact he's 51st is really irrelevant when you look at the actually data.

All good.

Nice insult calling my post idiotic.  All I did was add some data to the conversation.  My bad.

Of the remaining 3 majors, I'm not sure which one presents the best opportunity for #2.

Hold a gun to my head and I'd say Pebble.

If I knew more about portrush I could be talked into it.

Can we all just admit that golf is now like 19 billion times more interesting than it was 5 years ago?

God I have such a boner for all the other majors already.

MRS. O> TAKE THE KIDS OUT.  TAKE ALL OUR MONEY.  JUST LEAVE ME BE ON TIGER SUNDAY TIA

He's said in interviews he doesn't feel like bethpage is suited to him anymore.
He won it almost 20 years ago.  No reason he can’t win it again.

I bought tickets for the PGA.  Turned out our daughter’s communion was that day, and I had to give them away.  KICKROCK

It's all good then.  As I said, I have no grudges against anyone here.

Yes.  It's only 4 yards, but that's not what I'm saying.  At no point did I ever say anything about him not being able to hit it far.  I said he's no longer the elite golfer and that a lot of other golfers on the tour are just as good as him.  So, really, you showing that he's 4 yards less than other people only proves my point more.

Again, I'm just using the stats the PGA puts out.  He's ranked 3rd.  And if anyone is saying something like "He used to be..." or anything that refers to his past accomplishments, it's using rose colored glasses.  He's 43 years old.  Jack Nicklaus was a great golfer, but I'm guessing he'd probably have trouble swinging a club now.  Or standing.  Or breathing.  Skill and talent begin to fall off a cliff once you are over a certain age.  And time has shown that people don't play to their highest potential in their mid 40's.

I'm not taking anything away from what he's accomplished.  I'm simply saying rational statements.
Sure.

But I am saying he hit his irons better than anyone at Augusta and it wasn't particularly close.  When he puts the ball in the fairway off the tee he is the best player on the planet.  At 43 years old and after 8 back procedures.  It is remarkable.

The British Open and Pebble Beach are his best chances this year, and they are very good chances.
It certainly could happen.  Tiger is playing very well right now so if he keeps it going, who knows?  This past weekend is one of the better ones I have had in a long time.  Had some good golf buddies of over 40 years at my place for the tournament on Saturday.  We live in different places now, so its pretty rare for us to see each other.  The final round on Sunday was so good I watched it again.

That being said, I dont think Tiger will catch Jack.  I would love to see him do it.  I just think there are too many good players now, and none of them are afraid of him.  It will be fun to watch him go after it.  Majors are tough to win and Tiger is getting older.  I wont doubt him, not that guy, but if I had to bet, I would put money on him not catching Jack.

This thread got weird.  Really does have a PSF vibe now.  I'm glad he won.  Just think of the ####-show in here if he lost by a stroke or in a playoff.

Golfing on Saturday. Will I see anyone wearing a red mock turtleneck?
man, I still have a closet full of nike mocks - no red, since I am whiter than GM and that color looks terrible on me.

ETA:  back in the early 60s my dad wore the hell out of these (so did Gary Player and others) and looked damn good.
