Tiger Woods (4 Viewers)

You guys don't get it. Tiger sits back letting his rivals pile up stats, which will eventually weaken the only argument detractors have ever had against him when comparing to Jack...competition level.

Mickelson becomes the next Player, Harrington the next Trevino, and Woods blows by to 20.

 
AKRON, Ohio — Looking nothing like the player who has 14 major championship titles and 71 PGA Tour victories and been No. 1 in the world the past 269 weeks, Tiger Woods wrapped up the worst performance in his career in relationship to par over 72 holes with a final-round 77 on Sunday in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.

Is the ride over? Serious question. Will he emerge again in a couple years to dominate for another decade? At this point I'm really not sure. Been well over a year since the thread started and he hasn't sniffed a major.

 
I posted this after his first round this week:

My stupid intuition (and the fact he had won here 7 times in the past) made me bet on tiger this week. Ughh!!! I almost felt sorry for him a little out there. Totally out of sorts and seems to have the mental game of John Van De Velde at this point. Maybe he gets back in it with the early tee time tomorrow, but i doubt it. He looks like a total :goodposting:

He still has all the mechanics, but if he doesn't recoup his staggering swaggering head, he could struggle for a while. Perhaps years. Perhaps,......forever.

I'm losing count, but next week should be the 8th or 9th time this year that Phil will go into a tourney with a legit chance at overtaking Tiger for the #1 spot. Career wise I think he is something like 0-15 in that scenario.

Honestly think this goes beyond infidelities, divorce and torn ligaments. Something happened in the early Spring of 2009. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. No one could but his countenance told the story.

Finless, first congrats on nailing it. Second, what are you doing leaving a softball about sniffing something major just laying out there? Do you enjoy seeing me banned?

It all depends on what you consider the "ride" to be. I don't think you are ever going to see him lap the field again due to the amount of great players that have come along. I do think that after some time his mental game will be back and he has shown that he can retool his swing and come back strong like last year. I think eventually you will see him recommit and continue on his path to breaking Jack's records. That being said, I am not sure how long that will take but if Tiger decides that he wants to do it, I have no doubt that he will.
 
Tiger Woods has been the most unpleasant person in sports for ten years. It's easy to be gracious when you are obviously the best player in the game. Woods couldn't even do that. He has always been a club throwing poor sport with a thug for a caddy. Now that he is struggling, I can't help but think it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I root against him every time he tees it up. Its one thing to be the best player in your sport, but it's a different thing to be a good person.

When he came back from his layoff, he didn't even think about thanking the sponsors of the tournament and the fans. He only spoke of his game. He's an ####### and I hope he never wins another tournament in his career.

He definitely has had an unfortunate and difficult year... but I'm with you, I'm rooting for him too. :rolleyes:

Agreed on the FedEx, it is beyond stupid and contrived. But Woods crappy year does have me interested for the first time since it started four years ago.Week 1 - started 109th, needed to be inside Top 100 to move on, finished 65thWeek 2 - started 65th, needed to be inside Top 70 to move on, finished 51stWeek 3 - starts the BMW 51st, needs to be inside the Top 30 to move onWeek 4 - Tour ChampionshipI don't understand enough about the FedEx to know who can theoretically still win it, but I think just about anybody still playing?? Phil is 0-10 this year and 0-17 lifetime in tournaments he had a chance to pass Tiger for No. 1.
 
I don't understand why the media hasn't been absolutely burying Phil for his inability to take World #1. He's had so many opportunities this year and he's choked them all away.

Phil will build a near insurmountable lead just by showing up to anything from Jan - Masters next year. Tiger has nothing to roll off at that point and Phil has a backstop in a few tournaments. It's just a matter of time now.
 
BS. I was at the tournament for 2 days this week. Trust me - Tiger is back. His swing has never looked better. He putted well all week, but today he started out missing a gimmee on #1 and it snowballed from there. He normally doesn't miss that many short putts in 2 months, but as most golfers know, if you miss one early it can get in your head. Still, he stuffs it twice on 18 and GMac clutched up twice outside of him with longer birdie putts. No shame.

By the way, Tiger is in phenomenal golf shape. He doesn't look as bulky, especially his biceps. He will be a force every time he tees it up in 2011.

Started the Final Round at Dubai today just one off the lead.

Just finishing up his round (+1 through 17) - now five back, T-8th.

This is what happens when you do 2 things...1. Take a significant time off from golf, touch is the first thing that goes2. Focus on a major change in the full swingTiger has done both of these in the last 1.5 years. He can get the putting back when he is not spending a majority of his practice time on the swing changes.

Pretty much the whole professional golf world agrees that when it comes to winning a major championship, the mental angle is as important as the physical. Tiger's confidence in himself is shot. When you add that to his swing and putting problems, it's an uphill battle. However, he has the talent, and if he puts it all together, he'll be back on top. That's a big IF, though.As an interesting sidelight, Rory McIlroy is sitting pretty, with a 4 stroke lead on the final day. However, if some of the closest pursuers close the gap, it will be interesting to see if he can stand up to the pressure. He's only 21 so it might be he folds, or it could be he's unconscious and oblivious to the pressure.

It will all come back with practice. he really has just begun CONSISTENTLY playing again. and he is still playing good golf with chances to win majors. he still has alot of work to do. But a year from now is when i see him being back to where he was. However, i still think he will have chances to win majors between now and then. Either way, today he has a chance. Will be tough though.
