Tiger Woods (1 Viewer)

I'm puzzled because after reading the postings in this thread lately, with Tiger being back and all, I expected to see him leading the Memorial by 7 strokes. Right now, almost halfway through the second day, he's tied for 64th. Is he leading from behind?
He seems to be as "back" as he was "done" earlier in the thread

Rory is going to be a little less of what Tiger would have been, had he not changed his swing....which is still great.

He birdied a couple holes at the end of today's round to sneak by and make the cut. I guess him being-back took a week off.

Only took that long today for you to prove my last post about you right.

Congrats.

Phew, so we've established that Tiger is finished again. He's gonna lose a tournament? Mods, we can lock this up. Great work Fin.

This is a debate thread about whether or not Tiger is back to his pre-scandal level. Here's the pattern, in case you haven't noticed....When Woods wins one of these non-majors, Otis and Apple Jack, and drummer, and you, and the other worshippers revel in it and mock those who aren't fans. When he barely misses the cut or loses another major, those who supported Finless' original premise gloat and rub it in the worshipper's faces.

When he plays well and Otis is on here trolling and calling people out, I never see you calling him a troll. Hmmmm, could it be because he's a fellow worshipper?

If you're going to participate, be a good sport. You can't have it both ways.

First off...maybe try actually using what people have actually done and said...makes your argument stronger. You don't see me in here reveling in anything or mocking or claiming anyone is back. Next off...its all funny coming from the guy who argued that Tiger was done...and Finless was right.Yet claims that Tiger may win 1 or 2 majors this year. You try to play both sides (which makes your last comment to me hilarious)...you mock and throw out random trolling fishing trips (then get pissed when you get called out for such things). You might was well just head back to FFT and whine about RP some more or post pictures for him...or go do some more fake tanning to turn yourself more orange. Leave the golf talk to people who actually understand the sport somewhat.

If Tiger fails to win another major, where does he rank on the best golfer of all-time list?

I've got him 4th currently.

Uh oh. Someone's butt hurt. Personal insults. LOL I hope Tiger does better next tournament. I fear for your family.

I know. He's had a nice season so far. It's the main reason I'm pretty sure he's going to finally break his five year slump and win a major. But you jump up and down like a clown every time he wins one of those little Ham & Egger tournaments, so don't get so sensitive when he barely makes the cut. (Hey, he's beating Rory. You still have that to hang your hat on)

Yes...you must be butt hurt by rightfully being called a troll...it shows too easily.

Enjoy your day...maybe get outside and get some actual sun...its better than that bottled stuff.

And so again we establish the hypocrisy of the newbie types.

If he wins a tournament like TPC...its a Ham and Egger.

If he barely makes the cut at the Memorial...he must just suck and its a big deal?

Thanks...as if it was not hard enough to see how ridiculous the Fin supporters are.

I'm of the opinion that if a person is playing a professional sport for a living, they're one of the best at it, especially if it's an individual sport. Tiger is still great, but he's not at his peak, IMO.

The sun's UV rays are very harmful. Your skin knowledge is right up there with your golf knowledge.

No doubt...and I don't think anyone in this thread has ever claimed he is at his peak.

Plenty think he is in his final valley though...and at least one who thinks he is in that valley...yet will somehow hop up to win a major or 2 this year.

In moderation...with proper skin protection, the Sun is actually quite good for you in raising your Vitamin D.

Either way...pale white >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> orange as crap

As usual, you don't have a clue about my knowledge...or anything else for that matter...better get back to your fun with phurfur and RP and the rest of those morons. They are more your weight class as far as thought process...you are in over your head here.

Someone's a little cranky today. You should be yelling at Tiger, not taking it out on me. After all, it's his performance that really has you perturbed, isn't it? You never seem angry when he wins one and the worshippers are out gloating and mocking. Why is that?

You are just like your little buddies over there.

Nothing cranky about pointing out what you are.

Why would I yell at Tiger? His performance today has done absolutely nothing to me.

Not angry at all right now (actually laughing at the deal you are making out of all of this...like normal for you though)

I pointed the same things out after he won TPC...that you are inconsistent in what you are claiming in this thread...so yet another failure in logic from you.

I am totally consistent.

Back on page 59, I made a series of predictions about this gold year. Among the predictions was that Tiger will win a major this year. Not all of my predictions are coming true. I am wrong on one of them. I predicted Tiger would miss the cut in more tournaments than he wins. But my predicting he'll win a major isn't something I came up with as a backpedal because he's playing better this year.

I've also maintained all along that Nicklaus' record is safe, and that Tiger will never get back to the dominant player he was for that period before his cheating and whoring around caught up to him. I haven't been one little bit inconsistent about anything since Finless started this awesome thread. The only thing more consistent than me is your anger every time he plays poorly and I point it out. It makes you want to kick puppies. Not sure what that's about. I don't get angry when he wins one.

So fin is right...as you have said and argued against others...yet Tiger will one one or two majors this year...yet somehow the record is completely safe too.

Yeah...a model of consistency newbie.

Whats great is you keep mistaking me mocking your ridiculous trolling here for anger. Not the first or last thing you will be wrong about for sure.

So, I can't think that Tiger will win a major this year AND Nicklaus' record is safe?

I think that Ryan Howard will hit some home runs this year but Barry Bonds' record is safe. Is that inconsistent too?

I think its the insistence that Fin was right...then claiming the guy will possibly win 2 this year...but I think him winning 2 this year would be a pretty big sign that Jack's record is not very safe.

The attempt with Howard and Bond is pretty laughable...but not unexpected.

Obviously your logic is correct but that would be a strange prediction. For that to happen Tiger would need to regress after winning one. Based on his physical conditioning you have to assume he's got at least 10 years of major-winning potential left. You prediction would mean less than 4 majors in 9+ years after breaking through and winning one.

There's still the senior tour, if nothing else, and I think he'll win several more majors. I doubt he's going to be as dominant as he was, because his competition is going to improve as well.

This is the thing that I think most people might have wrong. It's easy to say that a typical pro golfer is able to have success until 4X years old, but is overall age really the defining factor? What if the body breaking down is more directly related to accumulated years of play instead of age? Woods is not exactly an easy swinger and he's always been meticulous and methodical about practicing. Even though he's not 40 yet, due to him swinging clubs before he was 2 he already has well over 3 decades of golf wear and tear on his body. I can't help but wonder if physically his body may only have 3 - 5 years left instead of 10. Then again, the way Tiger has rewritten almost every record in the book, I wouldn't be shocked to see him winning majors 15 years from now either. Here are the 10 oldest people to win a PGA major (I couldn't find when some of them started golfing):Julius Boros: 1968 PGA Championship, 48 years, 4 months, 18 days (28 years of golf - started at 20)Jack Nicklaus: 1986 Masters, 46 years, 2 months, 23 days (36 years of golf - started at 10)Old Tom Morris: 1867 British Open, 46 years, 99 days (36 years of golf - started at 10)Jerry Barber: 1961 PGA Championship, 45 Years, 3 months, 6 days (39 years of golf - started at 6)Hale Irwin: 1990 U.S. Open, 45 years, 15 days old (41 years of golf - started at 4)Lee Trevino: 1984 PGA Championship, 44 years, 8 months, 18 days (39 years of golf - started at 5)Robert de Vicenzo: 1967 British Open, 44 years, 93 days (29 years of golf - started at 15)Harry Vardon: 1914 British Open, 44 years, 41 days (?? years of golf - started at ??)Raymond Floyd: 1986 U.S. Open, 43 years, 9 months, 11 days (?? years of golf - started at ??)Ted Ray: 1920 U.S. Open, 43 years, 4 months, 16 days old (?? years of golf - started at ??)Tiger is 37 and has been golfing for 35 years. 5 of the players on the list won a major with more than 35 years in golf, but none since Hale Irwin's 1990 outlier. Even if we give Tiger an equal 41 years as the record holder Irwin that means Tiger has about 6 years left. Who knows, it's just interesting to me to play what if's.

Lets also remember that physical conditioning of golfers is far different than it used to be...without even talking about differences in modern medicine vs. some of those you are talking about.

Honestly, those stats mean nothing anymore. Today's world is a completely different thing. Those guys were golfers. They played the game. Today's golfers are athletes. Almost every good pro golfer now has a nutritionist, a trainer, a sports psychologist, etc. Today's good golfers will legitimately compete until their 50th birthday with the shape their bodies are in.

Add to that the increased knowledge in the medical field and we can throw the past out the window. If Tiger played 30 years ago, he would be done now. There would've been no coming back from a major knee injury like that to ever compete at the level he is at now. Look at Tom Watson competing at 60+ years of age in majors. Look at Freddie Couples doing the same. Both of these guys had broken down bodies that were repaired by modern science that allowed them to stay competitive well past the ages most past champions did.

Now, take Tiger's drive to be the best into consideration and I have no doubt that he'll be competitive in majors well into his 50s if he hasn't already hung the cleats up as the greatest golfer of all time by then.

The equipment itself is way beyond what Nicklaus and Palmer started with too.

So I guess we don't talk about it anymore when Rory is +6? It's just sort of "well, he's as good as Tiger, but hey Tiger's still not winning majors so they're about the same." What a sham. And don't get me started on the PhilNerds.
Rory -4 on his second round when they suspended play

Tiger is a physical freak and don't forget - most of his swing changes over the last several years have been to prolong his career. Back in the late 90s he was putting a ton of strain on his back. Harmon and Haney both dialed down his swing.

Today I proclaim that he is back, people. +5 on Saturday. So far, worst round of all that made the cut. Dead last. Even McIlroy has passed him up. This is the Tiger we are used to seeing over the past few years.
