Tiger Woods (5 Viewers)

However , it seems really silly to think that

Finless wasn't spot on.
#1 golfer in the world isn't just "competitive." Why are folks struggling so much with this

simple concept?
Do you think there is still a fear factor and/or he will beat Jack's record?
No fear factor right now for sure; unclear if he'll be Jack's record.

But LOL at "finished" (#1 golfer in the universe last year) or just "competitive" (#1 golfer in the universe last year).

It's ALWAYS been about majors for Tiger. Everyone, including, big rumpswabs know this.

You've seen the shift in the goalposts here just in this thread over the past 2 years with the Tiger nerds espousing his PGA player of the year award for winning 5 low level tourneys.

It's always been about breaking Jack's record for Tiger. He couldn't give a #### less about being player of the year if he isn't knocking down majors.

Fin didn't say just competitive.

He said competitive. He was exactly that last year as the #1 golfer in the UNIVERSE

Disagree here. His use of "competitive" and "finished" clearly didn't contemplate #1 in the world over the course of a season.

A lot of people crabwalking in here. I guess I need to clarify a bit. When we make the statement "______ is done" What do we mean? Usually its a statement made about a person or team dominating. When I say Tiger is done I don't mean he's done....he'll never win another match. I mean his is coming off his plateau. He will no longer dominate like he has. People say the Patriots are done, the Yankees are done, Cuba Gooding Jr is done. Does that mean that the Pats might not squeeze out another Championship? Cuba Gooding Jr, considered done by many managed to do some decent work in Radio. Lets not lose perspective here.
Bump for those that forgot what the OP meant.

Fin is still a god.

CASE CLOSED FOLKS

He didn't just win a championship. He won 5 in a year and was the best golfer in the world.

Those tournaments weren't championships.

You want to argue with the maroons here ####ting all over Tiger, go for it.

But stop trolling Fin please with fake poor reading comprehension. You and Tobias are way too smart for that.

So Finless walks his initial comment back after Tiger plays really well in the spring of 2009 and this is now the original intent of the thread? That sounds like a revision to me.

boom

Trying to figure out which group is more pathetic, the Tiger haters all over him as he comes back from injury or the Finless haters denying he called Tiger's fall from dominance five years ago.

They are really eating up air time on the golf channel arguing what is wrong with Eldrick. They could have saved a lot of time with a simple 'this dude stinks at golf'.
And you're watching...imagine that.
I was hoping they would update us on the leaders but instead they keep blabbering about a has been.

Nuthugger. Ham and eggs. These are the words of simpletons and fools with no argument back.
A 1 year stretch where he won at courses he always wins at. Big deal. Well now he's finishing like a ham and egger even on those courses.

Can we dispense with the myth of the whole "he only won because he knew the courses well" argument? It's so silly. As if all the other guys on tour haven't played those courses before.

OMG IS THIS ONE A DOGLEG LEFT OR DOGLEG RIGHT?????

We'll be shutting this thread down for winter in a couple of days. See you ham and egger Eldrick lovers in April 2015.

Dufner pulled out after 9 because of a neck injury and now all of the Tiger lovers on the internet are going ape #### asking why doesn't he get the same treatment that Tiger does.

JTFC

Isn't it obvious? It's because he's black.
Kuchar pulled out too with back spasms. SPASMS! Get the heck out there. Others are playing soon after back SURGERY! I like Kuchar actually. Decent career with 7 wins in 12 years. People who don't know golf are really stretching to act like 5 wins in a season isn't incredible. No majors - yep. His mojo was coming back nicely last season. Too bad about more injuries.

It's so comical the Tiger haters have to get on here and bash them mercilessly after he was the greatest player ever for like.............15 years straight.

You guys remind me of the idiots in my dynasty leagues who never said a word until they FINALLY won a couple playoff games like 10 years into it, then all of a sudden threw out a barage of insults and smack talk on the message boards.

And you will be just like those same idiots who shut the F up when they sucked it up the very next year, just like you will be shutting up "IF" Tiger wins any more big tournaments. But.............as long as he isn't winning, we will expect to hear from you. But oh boy, if he wins...............you will turn into a bunch of little church mice.

Always a nice dynamic.

In that event, at least we'll be smart enough to shut up unlike the Tiger tail kissers who yack and spew garbage (much like Tiger after he attempts a tee shot) when he's spraying it around the course like a guy in the E flight at the local club.

Thanks B&B. Right on the money and really needed to be said.

Your analogy was elegant - "like the guy in the E flight at the local club."

If he continues to play like trash for any extended period of time (a few months after back surgery doesnt qualify for me), then we can chalk his career up to being JAG.

JAGs dont win 5 times in a year (ahem, LAST year).

Really, it's just the constant bashing. SOme people just can't handle when the top guys aren't the top guys anymore. Some sort of childish inner demons pop up from out of nowhere compelling people to bash those former top players. Like when Jordan was with the Wizards. It was like, no #### he isn't the best anymore. Not sure why it mattered.

Tiger isnt the best anymore, and likely never will be. But he is likely going to win more tournaments, and at least 50-50 or better to win a major again.

This year??? Probably not.

I'll shut up my thoughts about thinking he can still compete when he shows he can't compete for a couple years straight while healthy, or if he is constantly hurt for several years in a row while never competing. Maybe then his winnings days can be accurately described as being over. 4 months off back surgery and a year removed from the most wins on tour and the #1 world ranking?? Sorry, I am not stupid enough to think he is "DONE" less than a year removed from that and less than half a year removed form surgery.

Tiger only won at events last year where he was allowed to use the same clubs that he played with all the time.

The last time Tiger won anything important:

The Olympics took place... In China.

Obama won the election... his first term.

Russia was invading neighbors... Georgia.

He's kind of like watching Gordie Howe play on the Whalers.

Tiger can finish last place in any tournament in the world and still be the most important one on the course.

Still bigger than the sport itself.

This is a problem for the Tour honestly. Their narrative for 15 years has been Tiger vs Jack, Tiger vs Field etc. Granted no single challenger really stepped up during his prime as a legit foil, but still, they had 15 years of increased eyeballs to go deeper with those casual fans and introduce other players into the spotlight. But they kept on banging the Tiger drum. Now they've got a problem if he's not Tigre again.

A couple more major victories by Rory, and it will be time to toss Woods to the side as old news and start the Rory vs. the field and Rory vs. Jack.

You mean Rory that won the lowest tv rating Open in 5 years?

Rory's ratings are decreasing.

That's because people don't watch Rory, root for Rory, support Rory, follow Rory, know who Rory is simply because of the color of his skin.

Settle down. I didn't say it was the only reason, but it is sure as hell the reason that a large group of people will never know about Rory and never care.

You don't think there are a number of black people who didn't start paying attention to golf until Woods came around and only still pay attention if/when Woods is playing and in contention?

I don't think the casual black fan is anywhere near the top of the list of factors driving Tiger's popularity and TV ratings.

Interesting. In order for Rory to ever be bigger than the sport itself (your words), he's going to need some influences that come from outside of the world of golf. Something that Tiger most definitely had/has, and in my humble opinion, something that Rory will never have.

Rory will never be Tiger. This argument is dumb and somehow making this discussion even worse.

BUT - should Rory win another 3 to 5 majors over the next several years and get to around 7 or 8 by the time he's 28, the Tiger / Jack comparisons will start grow dramatically and Rory's popularity will grow as will the TV ratings.

Comparing Rory to Tiger now is like comparing a young LeBron to Jordan or a young Kobe to Jordan. It's just way, way too premature.

I'm sorry this part of the discussion isn't up to your standards, but the thread title is "Tiger Woods." I'm also sorry a few geeks have some hard on for what this thread used to be. I could really give a ####. I'm a huge Tiger fan and I'm in here to discuss him.
