Butch Harmon, who coached Tiger Woods from early in his career until 2003, was adamant on Monday after Woods fired swing coach Sean Foley: He's not going to be a replacement.
Of course if Woods backs up a tank of cash that would be a tough offer to refuse given how much cash Woods actually has, but for now the answer is a resounding "no."
And that apparently cuts both ways. Not only that but Harmon thinks Woods should go it alone from here on out.
"No I would not and he's not going to call and ask," Harmon said. "I don't think he needs a swing coach. If I were advising Tiger I'd tell him, 'You're the greatest player that ever lived, just go to the range and hit shots.'"
What a quote right there.
Tiger's actually not the greatest ever but multiple have suggested, probably correctly, that he might be better off just picking the paintbrush up again and going to work. Harmon is among them.
He also had good things to say about Foley, whose stable still includes Hunter Mahan and Justin Rose.
"Sean's had great success. He has nothing to hang his head about. I called him and told him that. I told him he worked his tail for this guy," Harmon said. "Nothing lasts forever."
That's certainly true, but it's going to be riveting to see who Woods hires next.

Just giving flap some grief. He is a good guy and we have PM'd here in the past about golf.
Good call on catching the peak. No doubt, he will never dominate like he once did, but who has. If anyone can find a way back to win majors its this guy.

The call was correct but it had nothing to do with fear factor.
I've said many times that TV commentators predicted the health issues way back in the early 00's, because of his crazy athletic swing. He tried to stave it off by changing his swing but it was too late.
I believe if he didn't have the injuries he would have overcome the personal stuff and would be at 16-17 majors by now.

RIP Finless....always thought he would be cool to hang out with IRL. That said, I thought that at the time he started this thread, it was low hanging fruit. The injuries started to pile up on Tiger, he had played at an other worldly level that had to decline at some point. It was well timed and of course, no one could have seen the spiral that happened in Tiger's personal life which contributed to making this an epic thread.

Pretty stupid but but about what I would expect from an 84 year old who doesn't know when to retire. That said it's stupid enough I don't get why Tiger is so upset about it.

Because Jenkins isn't just some old guy who doesn't know when to retire. He's probably the most respected historian and chronicler of the game and he is obviously pretty much on the money. Old people tend to pull no punches and that's what that is. He has nothing to lose, which is what has long kept others from doing it.
Just saw a clip and he has lost a bunch of weight. Interesting weekend with both Tiger and Lindsey returning to competition.
