Tiger Woods (1 Viewer)

Tiger at +5 - likely will miss the cut at the Waste-management Open.

How do we explain how quickly he has fallen?

Weren't people still claiming he was the best player in the world 2 years ago?

I bet the odds don't move for him to win the Masters after this.

Yeah, futures odds for public favorites/former greats generally don't move too much. Even if it becomes obvious to people who follow the sport that the odds are way too short, the exposure is too great for the books. You see it all the time. I think the Cavs still have the shortest odds to win the NBA title this year, or close to it.

His short game this week in a microcosm on 17

  • Shot 1 299 yds to right fairway, 41 yds to hole
  • Shot 2 48 ft to right fairway, 79 ft to hole
  • Shot 3 89 ft to green, 10 ft to hole
  • Shot 4 putt 12 ft 3 in., 2 ft 3 in. to hole
  • Shot 5 in the hole

At what point does the media finally admit that he's average and stop building him up for every tournament? All week long we hear about Tiger this, Tiger that. He' s no longer the same Tiger, yet the media still makes him out to be. When do they bite the bullet and start pumping someone else, or other people? Until that happens there will be tons of people who revel in his failures. Me included. At this point the highlights still show him - even when he's redundant. It has to stop soon, right? Maybe shortly after he proves during Masters week that he's no better than average any longer?

Last year I stated (not on here, but to my friends) that he'd not win another major. Now I doubt that he'll ever win another tournament.

You mean you didn't like all the replays of his hole in one (back in 1997) before the tournament, every time somebody teed off of 16, or during ESPN or Golf Channel post-round coverage?

All the duffer's reveling in his predictable rustiness upon return from injury is pretty sad.
What's sad is you think plural nouns contain an apostrophe.
No credit for changing the y to i and adding the suffix? Serious question for everyone. Did Tiger-Bashers (see what I did there?) also hope that Derrick Rose, Gronk, Revis, Vonn Miller and Mariano Rivera never returned to a high level of play in their sport too?

So he finished the Waste Management Open in 132nd place and is still 3-1 to win a major this year?

ETA - 10-1 to win the masters (only behind Rory in odds to win)

I think you've got cause and effect backwards here. As long as people who otherwise would never tune in to a single second the first round of the Waste Management Classic are posting hole by hole updates of Tiger's round on the message board of a fantasy football website, they're gonna keep showing it. They don't care if it's hate-watching or curiosity, they're just catering to the audience.

Also, I'll take that bet on him winning another tournament. $500 he wins an event on the PGA calendar by the end of 2016?

I made a similar comment on here a year ago. Golf needs to start hyping the younger kids. And their biggest mistake was not pimping other people along with Tiger as he got older. They had set themselves up for disaster from the get go.

Where did he offer a bet?

He didn't, I was offering it. Thus the question mark at the end of the last sentence. Apologies for the imprecise phrasing, Christo.

Ya, I'm not a betting man. I still doubt he will win, but I'm not putting up $500 to back that. He might get lucky one week :)

Besides, $500 is 2 trips to Fantasyworld

Fair enough.

I get the feeling I shouldn't google Fantasyworld at work.

No problem, Tim.

Not everyone was. I said as soon as the scandal broke that he would never win another major. His mystique died, and now his body and apparent lack of PEDs have completed the hat trick of his demise.
