Pretty much unprecedented for someone to turn an athletic decline around in their 40s. no? Remember, Tiger's body hasn't been all that cooperative over the past several years, either. Even if he gets his swing back and his head right, he'll probably still have to fight off injuries with regularity. And in golf, even minor injuries -- stuff you can play through -- can be disruptive.Think this will carry over to his 40's?I'm guessing decision makers at Nike have discussed what this means for their brand. I'm sure they expected a gradual slide into elder statesman role but duffing near the bottom while still in his 40s was probably not in the marketing strategy memo.
If only they would have listened to Finless and dropped Tiger. They could have claimed that he was winning because of them. Someone needs fired at Nike for that blunder.I'm guessing decision makers at Nike have discussed what this means for their brand. I'm sure they expected a gradual slide into elder statesman role but duffing near the bottom while still in his 40s was probably not in the marketing strategy memo.
I couldn't agree more. Just go play golf. Get out the old Titleist 975D driver, Titleist ball and an old set of clubs in the garage and have some fun. Maybe work on some old drills Earl liked. And s-l-o-w d-o-w-n.There was a great line in an ESPN piece over the weekend. "He may have done this to himself, chasing the myth of a perfect swing." I just will never understand someone who was widely considered as the best ever completely tearing down and rebuilding his swing over and over. He just can't help but tinker. Now he hits his irons fat, can't control the distance on his wedges. He was talking about "taking a look at the spin rates" after his round yesterday as to explain his issues. He needs to just hit the thing, try to get it close and make as many putts as he can. He has gone Paul Stankowski on us. Why risk changing the swing when you're already the best when the risk is losing everything? Get rid of this high tech guy he's with now and go back to basics. You don't hear any other pro talking the way he talks after the round with all the technical jargon.
Do we really know he has tinkered with his game more or less then any other pro? Is he just covered more? Everything he does is scrutinized. Plus he seems to go along with it offering up everything imaginable as an excuse.I couldn't agree more. Just go play golf. The slowdown part is another obvious problem. He needs to stop swinging like he is trying to kill it. When he swings at 3/4 speed he is a much much better golfer.I couldn't agree more. Was thinking of going Sunday. I'm not.Any of you D.C. locals heading out to RTJ for the tourney?
I'm going tomorrow, figured I better catch Tiger on Friday because his chances of making the weekend are pretty slim.
Good call.lod01 said:Now we are cooking. That birdie is going to get the ball rolling.
I always go on Friday when it's at Congressional but RTJ is a bit too far out there for me. Cornhole one year from today at the 10th?tom22406 said:Any of you D.C. locals heading out to RTJ for the tourney?

F'n old, white dudes.Tiger 3 off the pace through 10, tied for 13th at -5.
I was hoping it would be on tv somewhere, but I guess not. That sucks.
You can sign up for PGA Tour Live and watchTiger 3 off the pace through 10, tied for 13th at -5.

the last thing he needs is more time away from competitive golf. more than anything else, he needs to build confidence in competition again.Nice to see him playing respectably. I think he has a mini-resurgence next year. His last tourney of 2015 will be the PGA. He will have lots of time to get it firing.
load1 up there is looking fin-like in his prediction. In 2nd now.
I hope he is in the lead on Sunday for the sake of this thread.
Yeah, the Tiger fanboys may want to pump the breaks on this week's call of HE'S BACK!!!Before we all go too excited:
Only 20 guys in this tourney are in the Top 100. And only 5 guys are in the top 50.
We need a shirt like the fantasy football excuse shirt for the Tiger haters. We could find all the quotes right here in this thread.Yeah, the Tiger fanboys may want to pump the breaks on this week's call of HE'S BACK!!!Before we all go too excited:

Friday morning leaderboards are always deceptive
It's one of the easiest courses on tour
The weather was perfect for him out there
Rory would have won if he didn't hurt his ankle
The wind died down right before his round
Who cares about this tournament, it's not major
He's still behind Retief Goosen who might be in his 70's
If his ball doesn't hit a bunker rake on 15 he makes triple
I could have made most of those putts
This is a glorified web.com tour event
They must not have tested him for PED's this week
Those greens are the most receptive on tour

I'm no Tiger fan and granted this might not be a tourney filled with top pros but when is the last time Tiger had two straight rounds in the 60s? Good for Tiger, hopefully he plays the next 36 as well as his last 31 holes. This thread and golf will be a lot more interesting if he starts making cuts and is competitive.
The field doesn't have anything to do with those numbers.Jason Sobel @JasonSobelESPN 45m45 minutes ago
Tiger Woods' stats from today: --Driving distance: 318.5 yards --Greens in regulation: 10-of-14 --Total putts: 28
