timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (4 Viewers)

Could krista just tank one of these damn drafts to give the rest of us a shot?
I'm pretty sure she didn't win the last timdraft, although she has won most.
Yeah, I was middle of the pack on the music draft, which was much better than I expected. Decided at the very beginning that there were some artists I wanted represented and that I'd only go with something I love and avoid stuff that I knew would score better. I expected to end up dead last.

On this one, I'm in it to win it. :boxing:

The whole key to these drafts is not to take bottom 5's - you have to pick some categories last, and if you can get away with 6-10 points for those, you'll do well. That's what happened to me in the one draft I won (well, tied for the win) - no bottom finishes, and then a few good breaks on the others.

The 1 for Ilsa (which it earned) will keep me on the bottom half for awhile :) - I was just hoping that it was curiously entertaining enough to get a 6 or so.

That movie was simply dreadful. But I'm curious how you even were aware of it?

i am working on dance scenes....def not as easy as i thought it would be. hopefully will have done by the middle of the week.

When I agreed to judge the multiple performances I had seen all but 1 or 2. There are 9 on the final list that I haven't seen. Ouch. I'm working on it.

I'm halfway on the sports scenes, and the judging writeups are of guster length, easily 10 pages in my word document...

One thing is certain, there will be at least 1 pick close to a perfect score (maybe perfect, still debating this with myself), and at least 1 pick that will be #####ed and moaned about. :bowtie:

I was curious. And in the video store.

I liked a lot of your selections. I think a lot of drafters drafted songs that they love. A lot of different genres were covered such as different forms of rock, blues, country, rap, jazz, punk, metal, old timey, soul, funk, disco, folk, and everything in between.

Yeah, it was a great draft for learning about a lot of music!

Hear, hear. It was great.

11.05 - The Skeleton Army breaks through the sand in 1963's Jason and The Argonauts (Scene that Scared Me As a Kid)

The old-school swords-and-sandals flicks were regular Saturday-afternoon fare on local TV when I was a yoot. Good, clean family, fun. Cool-as-he|| Harryhausen stop-motion action ....
RIP Ray Harryhausen. Making stop-motion movies in heaven now.

:goodposting:

Yea, those Sinbad movies (et al) were awesome. The Cyclops, the Dragon, Poseidon holding up the mountains - awesome stuff.

Looking for the sympathy vote I see.

OK, I'm working on the rankings for Outer Space flicks, and I need a volunteer. There's one specific flick on the list that I own the DVD for, but haven't seen, and for a weird reason don't want to yet.

Some time back I purchased Season 1 (and only) of Firefly and the movie Serenity, intending to watch them at some point here when I have time. And I haven't had time yet, unfortunately. So I'd rather not watch Serenity yet, as I don't want to force a 15ish hour watching party just to see Firefly first. Once I finish the other rankings (I still have one movie to hunt down and watch), can somebody rank Serenity into the list for me?

Thanks!

:frantically searches notebook for andy d's thoughts on serenity:
Well, for reference, for the movies drafted I'd have Khan on one end and The Fifth Element on the other.

God I hate The Fifth Element.
Thanks, Andy. I'll forward the list to you when I get to that stage (after I hunt down and watch a copy of Solaris).

Khan will get it's props, never worry, but The Fifth Element will NOT come in last. I've seen almost every movie on the list multiple times (most of them easily hit the "seen it 4 or more times" list) except for 4 films which I haven't seen at all - Serenity, Solaris, and 2 others I rented at Blockbuster the other night. One was OK, the other one made me want my 2 hours and my 99 cents back. :X

The way our tastes clashed in the other draft, I am bracing myself for a crap score here.

I'm working on shocking scene, but I've already finished/posted car chases, and am somewhat waiting for other judges to post rankings.

It is a tad unnerving that we have gotten through only 4 categories. Scene and portrayal categories shouldn't take too long.
I'm doing a scene category, but I'm still watching the entire movie. I think it's tough to judge a scene if you're not familiar (haven't seen it in a while) with the movie.

One could argue that the scenes should be able to stand on their own. Watching the whole movie could subconsciously effect things- maybe giving a crap scene in a good movie a boost or vise versa. I am sure the judging is going slow because most are doing this though. I am slowly working through the weird movies.

don't know why i was thinking about this, but a good category would have been "best portrayal of the President of the United States"

i'll take Henry Fonda from Fail Safe

I would like to hear from all judges yet to give their rankings: just chime in to let us know that you're still alive, that you're working on it, and that you expect to have it done in such and such time. No pressure, except to let us know that you're working on it. (Those that have already posted this information needn't do it again.)

If I haven't heard from you by a week from now to at least let us know that you're working on it, I will open the judging to new volunteers. If there are no volunteers, then I will do it myself.

It does when some of the judges of the scenes/portrayals are also doing the Movie section as well.

I'm doing England first (2/3's of the way through), then fight scene and then adultery/sex.

Fight Scene should be a breeze compared to the other 2.

I get it. I am judging 3 categories as well- 1 movie, 2 scene. Just surprised there hasn't been more judging in general. I didn't watch the movies for the long takes, and didn't plan on it for shooting a movie, but I get judges wanting to do so.

Tim: THIS IS AN OFFICIAL ADVISORY THAT I, DOING BUSINESS HERE AS AERIAL ASSAULT, AM:(a) still alive (thanks for asking!); (b) am working on my categories; and (c ) expect to have Superhero rankings completed within the next 120-144 hours, with the scene categories to follow. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

I expect to have my rankings done by Sunday, or possibly Saturday, if no one in my non-virtual life gives me any hassles.

Yeah, this is what's going on with me as well - I'm doing the Outer Space list (since I had already started work before getting a second category), then I'll do scary kid scenes. I may end up having to watch Solaris on Youtube, since I can't find a copy anywhere.

Might have drug movies finished tonight

:bonghit:

Then again, I might not
:excited:

A few weeks ago I smoked a doobie, first time in around 18 years, and a good 30 years from being a steady recreational consumer.

HFS was it potent. Was at a Rangers game and I thought I was going to have a heart attack walking to my Club Level seats. No memory of the 1st period other than feeling like I was tripping.

I think I'm done with the herb. It ain't nothing like the stuff we bought for $35 an ounce back in the day.

Louis CK does a good routine on this, but yea, pot got waaaaay stronger

Sorry for the delay in dance scenes, last week was crazy, and had a death in the family so had to travel this weekend, but just need to re-watch some films and will get dance scenes as soon as i can.

sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, tish, which I assume means sorry for your loss Acer as well.

I have not begun romantic gesture and am going out of town again beginning Thursday. Two weekends from now is the earliest I can reasonably finish. If that's too late, I understand and will cede to another judge.
