timschochet's thread- Mods, please move this thread to the Politics Subforum, thank you (2 Viewers)

A thread just for Tim's okay

Though at first some had said no way

The funnier folks

kept it lively with jokes

before politics drove us away
I like your humor. But if politics drive you away too bad. That's part of what I'm about. If somebody doesn't like it, now they can simply skip this thread.
I don't necessarily dislike politics, but I don't like discussing it on this board. The level of discourse here is way below the standards of what I'm willing to engage in. I don't blame you Tim... it's been that way since long before you arrived.

I do like fake drafts. Please make it happen.
Yea the idea that there was some golden age of political threads is laughable.

Tim's chooch isn't big on the laughters

And he's one of the worst football drafters

but if they gave a title

For having time idle

he'd have more banners than rafters

Back in 2006, before I joined this forum, I wrote a long speech for President Bush that I wanted him to deliver regarding illegal immigration. I sent it to all my friends at the time. I don't think any of them read it. This speech still represents my best arguments on this issue, so I am going to post it here.

My fellow Americans:

...
  1. We need to solve Mexico. How to do this is a problem for which I don’t have an immediate solution, but it must be done. Throwing money at the Mexican government will do little more than solidify the existing corruption. What we want is a prosperous Mexico with a large middle class and room for advancement, where its people won’t seek to emigrate. This again is a long term plan, but it must be done.
...

Thank you, and good night.
First of all, you sent all that to your friends? Were they appreciative? Serious idea: maybe you should consider a blog.

Secondly, about Mexico: I think that's whole thing frankly. No one is really worried about Ecuadorans or Cubans or Puerto Ricans, or anyone else who don't come through Mexico. Mexico is the entire "problem." And Mexicans are a single definable entity in our nation who have the potential to cause ethnic strife in our country. El Salvadorans and Dominicans are a world apart, it's not as though Latin Americans ("Latinos") are all the same, they're not. But Mexicans are the biggest immigrant group, when we speak of cheap farm labor we are largely speaking of them and we speak of unsecured borders which cause internal and external issues it's the Mexican border. And when we speak of immigration policy, we are not speaking of the some 1050 countries which likely send us emigrants every year, we are speaking of Mexican immigration.

One day in and I'm 7 pages behind - this is the reason I never really went to GMTAN. I'm not complaining - I didn't care if you kept posting in other threads or just in here - whatever you do is up to you, not me.

Have we started picking the date when TimThread exceeds GMTAN? I'll take November 9, 2016 the day after the next Presidential election.

My fellow Americans:

...The next misconception is that this is an issue of our sovereignty, and that the growing Hispanic population in the southwest as a result of illegals will change the demographics so significantly in the next few decades that these areas will belong more to Mexico than to the United States. The people who argue this are mostly nativist by nature, and they are quick to complain about parts of cities where every storefront is written in Spanish. While the arguments against the high economic costs are perfectly legitimate, these arguments are not. The Hispanics that come to America, whether legally or illegally, even though they bring their culture with them, desire overwhelmingly to be Americans and to be treated as Americans. To complain about their culture is quite simply, a bigoted attitude and should be condemned....

Thank you, and good night.
With the help of UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta, Chavez launched the "Illegals Campaign," which he believed was nearly as important as the boycott. He criticized President Nixon and the Border Patrol for letting in so many "wets," as he called them.

Under the campaign, he turned the UFW into an anti-illegal-immigrant spying organization. Union volunteers became dedicated to finding and identifying undocumented immigrants working on farms -- as well as those giving them aid and comfort. The information was turned over to the feds. While doing yoga "standing on his head," Pawel writes, Chavez gave 19-year-old Liza Hirsch the job of heading up the Illegals Campaign.

"Hirsch distributed forms printed in triplicate to all union offices and directed staff members to document the presence of illegal immigrants in the fields and report them to the INS," the books states.

Chavez believed that the campaign would help his supporters explain to the public why the boycott against grapes and lettuce wasn't effective: Farmers were hiring illegal workers who didn't care about the strikes or boycott.

A favorite line of Chavez's was, "If we can get the illegals out of California, we will win the strike overnight."

Chavez's "liberal allies" and Chicano activists didn't agree with the tactic. But Chavez clung resolutely to his beliefs, breaking ties with affiliated groups who wouldn't go along. His stubbornness resulted in mutinies, with some UFW field offices "refusing to cooperate" in tracking the undocumented workers.

Huerta supported the Illegals Campaign, but suggested Chavez should tone down the rhetoric. Some people find the terms "illegals" and "*******" offensive, she reminded him.

"Chavez turned on Huerta angrily," the book says. "'No, a spade's a spade,' he said. 'You guys get these hang-ups. ####### it, how do we build a union? They're wets, you know. They're wets, and let's go after them."

...

Besides the belief that illegal workers were taking jobs from citizens, Chavez theorized that organizing undocumented workers would be fruitless, ultimately, because farm bosses might have them rounded up by immigration authorities once they made gains. But he also felt that illegal workers were interested in money, first and foremost, and were "beholden to the grower or labor contractor." They did not make effective union activists, he thought.

Rumors abounded that UFW members had beat up some undocumented immigrants, and questions were raised about how strongly Chavez discouraged that violence...

...Since the 1950s, Chavez worried that braceros, Mexican workers imported legally by U.S. farmers, were taking jobs away from citizens. Employing "expendable" workers who could be paid less and wouldn't make as many demands for humane working conditions was seen as more desirable by the growers. Chavez believed he "couldn't build a union" with members who were undocumented, and he was suspicious about green-card holders, too, Pawel says....

So, that was Cesar Chavez. American unions themselves were opposed to increased immigration and amnesty style proposals for a long time. So, no, not all or even mostly nativists.

Cool, another clique thread. Just what the FFA needs.
I'll be honest, I'm torn on that. I see your point and feel that way a little bit but I've never felt unwelcomed when I've posted in GMTAN. To me the bigger problem is the threads get too long and while I enjoy this place I'm not spending all my free time here to wad through a thread about nothing to find the good stuff. That's kind of the whole point of separate threads.

Your favorite 5 Christmas/Holiday movies/shows

go.....
Also do you consider the original Die Hard a Christmas movie?
Absolutely Christmas movie. No debate there.
Love Die Hard but always found the talk about it being a Christmas movie ridiculous. I had the TV on while getting ready this week and Mike and Mike were arguing about it. I think Golic made a decent point in the argument with the fact that it was released in July - I think most Christmas movies would be during the holiday season.

I've been drinking this spicy tequila drink for the last hour, I'm ####### hammered but thisis the most spxy drink ever, my mouth is on fire, damn you STK with your swet and spicy. Where the fck is my wife!??! I'm too drunk for a steakhouse dinner

Meanwhile the tail in this place is legit 9's, :boner:

Meanwhile, why are wimin so stupid? The babysitter (who I pOd yesterday) lives across the street text me she would be there at 545, I had a car at the house at 5:55, yet my wife wasn't in the car until 6:15 and we're late for our reservation. :hyt:

OK, here it is. As has been pointed out repeatedly as you quoted at the start of this thread, you're oblivious. You lack self-awareness. And you continue to repeat yourself and have the same arguments over and over in multiple threads. And I couldn't take it anymore. So, starting with this post over a year ago, every time you brought up illegal immigration, I replied solely with quotes from here. Everything I've written on these boards on the subject since then came from there. Verbatim. Except when I had to switch out "Tim" for "David". I was just curious how long it would take for you to realize it. But you machine-gun your posts so much, without even bothering to think before you write, you never caught on. You were so oblivious it just wasn't fun anymore. So I'm giving up the shtick. It was a good run, 14 months, about a half-dozen different threads. Hundreds of posts, I've lost count. I started to run out of material from the source and had to repeat, and I know you noticed that, but you still didn't get "it". It was all supposed to point out how repetitive you get. Same arguments, over and over. All the times I brought up "Huntington Park", that "liberals rely on calling their opponents racist", that "illegals broke the laws by coming here therefore are bound not to respect our laws", it all came from there. The quote above "I like it when you’ve got the president from one party, and the House and Senate from the other party. Plenty of gridlock. And when stuff does go through, it’s bipartisan and usually important", from that chapter too.

So, there it is. I like the idea of this thread, so I'm calling off the shtick. I hope this thread works out for you and helps get the boards back on track.
Amazing. Bravo, sir.

The often verbose Tim sco-shaySpawned a thread of his own yesterday

His famed indecision,

oft meet with derision,

instead led to cheers of hooray

If you've never pronounced it Tim socket

You should try it before you knock it

Don't ask Tim 'bout this mystery

Lest he bore you with history

whilst he strokes his unsheathed pocket rocket

A gentleman named Tim sashay

Had so many things left to say

That he made his own residence

for anyone but eminence

(And em thinks this whole thing is gay)

This new thread of Tims O'Shea's

is a place he can cut and paste

Now he can copy right

but the thread has a copyright

The way you state your opinions (and the opinions themselves) causes threads to become about you and those opinions. Sometimes people want to discuss the topic and not your stance on that topic, but it happens in every thread you dominate.
I was thinking about this exact point while reading some of the Taliban thread. Well stated.

Of all the criticisms levied at me, the only one that is 100% wrong is Rockaction. I'm just one guy. The reason he sometimes sees misspelling is that I post a lot from my iPhone and I'm not the best at texting. (Incidentally, this is a large part of why I post so much- I'm often at shopping centers waiting for appointments all day long. My business has several hours each day of waiting around for people to show up- often they never do. Any commercial real estate agent knows what I'm talking about. You know those threads that start out with "I'm stuck here for two hours, ask me anything"? I could start that thread any day of the week.)

Rockaction is also wrong about me being a troll. The purpose, as I understand it, of a troll is to destroy good discussion and debate. Whether or not I succeed or fail, my purpose is always the exact opposite.
First bolded: Dude, your posts can't come from an iPhone. That's ludicrous.

Second bolded: No, that's not the point of a troll at all. It's to fish, draw out, and make people look stupid.
what do you mean my posts can't cone from an iPhone? Every post I have made in this thread, including this one, is from an iPhone.
That makes your post count even more impressive.

I am not going to read this entire thread. Like I said before, less is sometimes more.

Many of us have gone through periods of being addicted to the FFA. But, man...think about how many hours of your life you are giving up on these boards. Several years ago I was spending way too much time here. It is kind of disturbing when I think back about it. Way too much time being not very productive at all.

Hmm.

I have to admit that was very ingenious of you. You copied the arguments of a fictional character I created who offered a nativist, racist viewpoint on immigration and you represented it as your own. It did seem familiar to me and I probably should have figured it out. But I never thought that anyone would want to pretend to adopt that sort of thinking for whatever reason. It frankly never occurred to me that you would be proud to make that your own. But whatever. You fooled me all right.
This shtick has been gold. Always thought you would log onto :e: and catch it.

Like videoguy, I am a fan of this thread so far. Also, bourbon is damn tasty.
