Tip the maid at the hotel? (1 Viewer)

Frequent travelers, do you tip the maid who cleans your room and if so how much per night stayed? Notice a lot of the chains are leaving signs with maids name. Assume this is to encourage tipping.

Never. And I don't ever feel bad about not tipping them. I don't tip people who make a normal paycheck. Tipping a maid is a dumb as tipping your car mechanic at the dealership.

If I stay more than one night, $4-$5/day. If it's just one night, nada.

They have access to my toothbrush. I usually give a buck or two.
So you tip as soon as you get there so they don't mess with your toothbrush?

Or when your stay is over and you'l never see them again?
It was a joke. I usually tip a buck or two just because they are providing a service that I appreciate.

I travel a lot for work and the hotel chain I use gives extra points for not having the room serviced so usually it's only every few days or the day I leave.

it depends. if the maid has to clean up excess amounts of semen and vomit, then I'll tip a buck or two since that's over and above usual maid service.

Can't blame the repeat threads when searching sucks.

When traveling alone, I put up the Do Not Disturb sign for the full trip. Don't need anyone straightening up my stuff, I don't like when the blankets are tucked back in and all those stupid pillows are placed back on the bed. if I need more towels or anything else, I call down and ask them to be sent up and give a couple bucks to whoever comes to the door. No tip at the end, you're turning over the room for a new paying customer.

I have already gotten more out of this thread than all other threads combined. There should be a travel tips thread for gold like this. Green choice. Thanks.

Once I figured out that they took away all my returnables I just started picking up excess bottles & cans on the beach and dropped them off to my room.

Those that keeps saying "X amount per night" are you leaving the tip out every day or just the total at the end of your stay?

Personally, I usually have the "do not disturb" sign on the majority of the time and only get maid service a max of once per trip. I do leave a $5 - $10 tip at the end just because I travel with a kid that generally makes a mess and have a bag of dirty diapers in the trash.

If I'm leaving semen on the bed, I'll throw her an extra $2-3 on top of my standard $3-$4.

Gotta take care of her for cleaning my mess.

At the end of my stay I tip $5 per night. And I hand write a little "Thank you" on the notepad. :bowtie:
