Titans 2015 in-season thread (1 Viewer)

Mularkey Monday was "on" DGB wanting the WR to run seam routes and not get jammed, leap and win a jump ball deep.

Yesterday, he's "on" Kendall to just run the (short) routes and be efficient taking what's given

http://espn.go.com/blog/tennessee-titans/post/_/id/17212/titans-kendall-wright-failed-to-do-what-hes-coached-to-do-several-times-vs-raiders

TZ and McBride haven't been overcoached and confused as Titans WRs are every year at this time, so by just running the routes doing their thing, I would bet $ they are more effective in practice.

His wording Monday almost matched Turzilli's predraft writeup. Waldman? someone called McBride polished WR and used the phrase "takes what's given." He's describing McBride yesterday.

One quarter of the backups (where they actually get passed to) and I'd bet the light goes on for WRs and offensive staff.

Every preseason it's how talented and full of potential they are and as the season closes they're all undisciplined and not doing what's asked-in a wrong light, not in a misbehaving one. I doubt anyone watched the last couple games and thought any WR was freelancing or 'dogging it' but there is this "what are you doing? Just run to the spot" thought.

We are not discussing the finer intricacies of the WR position but the simplest. It's gotta be overthinking and overcoaching, gotta be

Team hopes Andrews repeats last game (15 for 78) yesterday, today more of a rotation at RB.

He was 11 for 32 last game. Your posts are all over the place.
Yeah I did word that poorly. Sorry

Yesterday was how the team hopes Andrews repeats last game against Jags (15 for 78) two weeks ago

Today they are saying more of a rotation at RB

Ya know...the games this year, if you think of the young WRs the Titans have faced...gotta say Hunter and DGB are more than a tier below them.

Cooper, Evans, Jags WRs, it seems like every week there's young WRs that look soooo much better than they do.

It's gonna be interesting to see if new coach wants 3-4 or 4-3 defense.

They still have 4-3 players.

I would prefer to see Casey and Morgan at DE, let a young guy play OLB.

I doubt Avery has any trouble being MLB and Orakpo can surely handle it.

Their DTs are still the 4-3 guys, never got the big NT so essential to a 3-4

Turzilli inactive bugs me.

Poutasi up, Meredith inactive-good for him.

Riggs inactive...why!

He was impressive while Webb was meh, then that penalty last week (phantom call or not)...oh totally don't like him sitting.

Yannick is up. Morgan is out so maybe Yannick gets some time subbing in for Bass

Posted this in DGB thread-

PK posted this on twitter/espn

Mike Mularkey told Dorial Green-Beckham, other mistake-makers that Titans would need something from them before it ended. Got it from DGB, others.

Wow makes ya wonder if he didn't make that catch doesn't it?

Mariota gets longest TD run by a QB since like 1960-70 or somesuch, no love in FBG email.

ESPN? One of the common game recap pages gave Titans Jags two sentences.

MM thread didn't get a ton of posts yesterday after a nice performance.

It's interesting to watch the shine come off the rook as he meshes with a bad team.

He held interest in a losing team longer than most. Aside from Manziel, the Browns haven't got any press in a while-you'd think there's just QBs on that team.

Hitting a bottom point

Titans targets have dropped 3.1% of passes as per Bill Barnwell at ESPN

There have been years that this would have made me so ecstatic

Bon Jovi tweeted that he's not interested in buying Titans

If all the "not for sale" people could please explain why he'd do that then, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I will welcome our new long necked overlord reliving his college days

Whatever Mularkey challenged them with, as practice ended, he lost and had to run himself. Probably a good thing.

McCluster and Douglas practiced, Wright didn't.

He discussed obvious re Revis and Cromartie

Said Marshall having as good a year as he's seen him have

Called Ivory one of most physical runners, better get a good pad level on him.

Titans determined to run on Jets, may start slow and have to adjust like in Oakland, we'll see.

Mentioned WRs blocking to free RBs

Mariota teased he's out of shape by his buddies after long run

Discussed how day one they've had WRs watching tape of successful NFL WRs going up getting ball deep

More designed runs for MM lately, hopes defenses start to spy, one less rusher or cover guy

Could hear reporters hitting him up after presser-

Wyatt tweeted BW Webb 3rd CB now so Bleeding down to 4th

Wright's injury is ribs. I thought it was his back as Poz pulled him uncomfortably from behind. I doubt it's typical impact to ribs type. Besides hit coming from behind with arm around shoulder/chest, he didn't have that "wind knocked out of me" look but gritting teeth ouch look.

Today was last padded practice of season.

I don't think most fans truly understand there's only 12-14 practices in season where they're in pads going "full bore"

I suppose they could have spread them out better (4 weeks without) but a lot of changes and youth, probably needed to see a thing or two during the year

Years ago Parcells called it a practice dance and that term has always stuck with me. So often people say if player X could just prove... in practice then he'd show...

Maybe if there was a padded one, but if you reread some fan comments like that and think on it, it just isn't happening

My personal belief is this is far too weak for linemen. If injuries are such a major concern, then the NFL should bargain with NFLPA to have at least a dozen more where these two groups are off to the side battling. Coaches can evaluate feet and some things but without leverage and actual pushing it's very hard for both lineman to improve and for coaches to help them improve, in-season.

McBride and Yannick added to injury report today as limited

Maybe I'll get to see Turzilli in an NFL game finally

Revis who has been out a long time with concussion is practicing and could return(ugh Titans luck)

Nothing done with Cary as per PK

I thought he was overpaid in SEA so there might need to be a waiting period to get both sides to agree.

Cary holds the cards here with there being no decent CBs available for teams to pickup now.

By the same token, once the season ends, he's just one of a slew of free agents.

I wonder if the Adams family is watching this one moreso than normal. It's nearly review time for Webster. There's a need at CB. A good one visited. They have tons of cap space. Likely to expose Bleeding as a bad pick too.

I think NFL players are allowed to make stupid penalties and it's not that big of a deal, but just the same Webster kind of needs Supernaw to NOT headbutt anyone this week while Coffman is in the news. Even if they're just casual observers, they gotta know he was signed, cut, and re-signed for Supernaw's benefit.

Yannick and McBride sudden injuries could be to get Turzilli and Tavai some time as they were both very good in TC. It could also just get them "up" in practice to see them a little bit more prominently there.

I don't see any indication that G Matias has a shot to play as the season closes.

A number of people tell me they wouldn't be surprised if Fluellen gets some time the last few weeks. They still seem excited of Cobb despite his struggles so it'd have to be over Sankey or to replace McBride as KR or to bench Supernaw and "settle" for 3 TEs instead of 4 on gameday. I would like for this to happen. Andrews last year, Fluellen this year-start a trend of hard-working UDFA backs getting rewarded for their efforts late in the year. Good for the team morale, good for that brief sorta post draft UDFA run.

I keep getting asked of Sankey and no I don't think they have to play him (significantly or at all) these final four weeks. I don't think they have to cut him either as he's relatively inexpensive. That everyone does better with a FB they drafted and they don't use him is dopey. That he's a good outside runner, DGB can block real well and their TEs can, but they don't do it much at all is also dopey. A new coach could like outside runs and using a FB. A new coach could also see him as fine depth-which we never really discuss with him.

When Douglas and Wright got hurt, Sankey was put in at WR in a pinch-not McBride nor Walker moved to slot. That's significant in many ways. Should have had another WR up, shows confidence in him, lack of in McBride etc.

After preseason, I can only think of one time they had Andrews and Sankey in at WR at same time and another where they had McCluster and Andrews at WR. Fowler in slot once. Walker maybe 2-3 times as FB. Wright maybe twice in backfield. For all their talk and practice of wanting to present a huddle difficult for Ds to size up and matchup with, they didn't really do it. Big fat waste of time there.

Enjoyed this-

Tennessee Titans RB Dexter McCluster (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCluster is buried on the depth chart, and it will limit his impact. If you have to use him (or are otherwise desperate), he is no more than an RB6. In other words, it's a bad thing if you're in that position.

Ya know...if they'd just let us here be the GM....

Wright out

Titans receiver Kendall Wright has been ruled out for Sunday’s game because of a rib injury he suffered last week against the Jaguars.

Wright, who has 33 catches for 390 yards and three touchdowns this season, didn’t practice all week.

With Wright out, first-year receivers Andrew Turzilli and Tre McBride are expected to get playing time alongside veteran Harry Douglas and rookie receiverDorial Green-Beckham.

“They are (ready),’’ interim coach Mike Mularkey said of Turzilli and McBride. “They have been here as early as the coaches. They are here early, and they stay late. They have been grinding.

“So they are going to step up and make the most of their opportunity. But they will play pretty extensively.”

Cudjoe-Virgil injury

Rookie linebacker Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury in Thursday’s practice.

He’s scheduled for surgery today, Mularkey said.

Cudjoe-Virgil played in the last two games after being promoted from the practice squad last month.

Promoting linebacker J.R. Tavai from the practice squad to the active roster is an option, Mularkey said.
