Titans 2015 in-season thread (1 Viewer)

Schefter is tweeting something along the lines of Chip Kelly is getting fired.

Him for the offense, Lebeau for D. That's what I want.

The notion of hiring/finding a coach that will solely want to focus on the O is going to make the offseason very difficult. There's a guy! I have no doubt he would be intrigued by the idea of only incorporating his O and developing his boy.

Adams family needs to do some smooth talking.

Every season (despite winning) Sooners fans call for Stoops' head. This season is no different and he always seems to inch closer out the door.

If they're doing whole new staff, I want him.

He would know how to utilize their offensive talent w spread experience that incorporates the TE and don't Oklahoma WRs always perform way better for him than anyone else? Like 20 drafted and 2 had careers?

They've had plenty of defensive talents.

He could attract some free agents.

Chip as the oc would be exciting for sure but why wouldn't he just go back to college?

If it doesn't work out in the NFL for Chip I see no way he doesn't go back to college. He'd make a fortune there and would have high profile schools like USC & Texas knocking on his door.

I don't know. Ya know it's all just some next step everyone is guessing on. Today is just that he's going to be let go from Philly.

I imagine money and happiness are the biggest issues.

He built something at Oregon and that takes some time. Head coaches can move up N down college to NFL, but assistant coaches don't have the same fluidity. He'd also have to get some of "his boys" to go to college with him too.

Recruiting is a challenge at a new school, so he'd have to go to a big established school and not be starting totally fresh in that regard.

Philly fans (and some of their staff) are almost too passionate at times. I think they're going to regret this. He's been 10-6 every year. They're too fired up to see the forest for the trees. Most fans would love a coach/GM that goes after the top RB and wheels N deals to turn 7 picks into 200. They don't have that acceptance that some thing don't work out and that there might have been more with mathis we don't know about. They're all firey excited. The Eagles used to hate McNabb and he got em' to the NFCC, it's hard to word. They're very quick to go from love to hate. I think Kelly was building something good and they just needed to give him time.

I imagine wanting to give up a dozen? players for Mariota meant he was OK taking a step back for a rookie QB because in the long haul MM would become the franchise and brings wins etc. Almost no one ever expects a rook to take em to the Supe. Between MM's presence and replacing all the players he offered, he was looking at at least another year or two before he built whatever team he wanted. This and the fact that he was 10-6 have me guessing he thinks there's some unfinished business and that he believes he is totally capable of winning the Supe. To go back to college and be one of those coaches that couldn't make it in the NFL will hurt his ego. The Titans gotta play this card. Bring up Pete Carroll and Harbaugh and Spurrier and Perkins and Charlie Weis and Al Groh....I don't know you guys can probably think of many more. Maybe not Carroll or Harbaugh...you know what I mean.

Titans have a spread WR who has had an excellent year in the NFL (Wright) and did bring his college coach to meet with Whisenhunt in discussing Mariota this offseason. I'm gonna guess that Wright would quickly be a Kelly guy. MM obviously is. Lewan...who doesn't like an excellent young T? Poutasi is 21. No coach's ego is going to turn that away. Top college FB, he's gotta like that. Better TE than he had in Philly. DGB learned the spread with TE at Oklahoma under Stoops whom he hates/loves respects. Fill in the rest coach. Wheel N deal as you will and get your offense how you want. Lebeau needs a NT and a CB if McCourty leaves. Get em in free agency and Kelly can have the whole draft and 22 mil under the cap to do what he pleases.

Their cap has to be a favorable view for a new coach. Their high priced players are old Griff and McCourty. I think that's 13 mil more if they are gone. 35 mil under the cap might interest this wheeler n dealer. IIRC after Oher, they signed Bell to a creative deal where they can cut him and have minimal risk. There's more $ if he wanted it. Stevens makes enough and is old like Griffin. He could easily come up with a bunch more $ too.

Titans need stability. They could offer years and big pay, then a sweet cap and all the picks.

Too dreamy? not reality? Maybe so but I see nothing on the coaching landscape for 2016...nothing. You know as well as I if they don't try to make something happen we are getting someone that used to coach the Jags D, was a Bucs coach, and began as a Browns coach and expecting them to be a winner. The only thing I can see today is if Miami is stupid enough to let Dan Campbell go as he is "just" an interim coach. Some think Fish doesn't want to go to Cali if the Rams move and we did that already. We don't have a roster of 42 year olds to make Jon Gruden happy nor would I want him. Maybe Gase, Denver now in Chicago doing well with Cutler, maybe. I really don't see much in play yet.

As long as the Chargers and Browns win a single game, the Titans will get the #1 pick.

If the Titans win one, then the waters get muddied with the 49ers. Cowboys aren't a 3 win team, they'll win and be out of this mix.

Kendall is going to be on a span count

Mularkey weighing players Thursday and then Friday "to get point across"...umm don't eat too much on Turkey day?

That goes back to TC with Whis liking Blackson at End too. Hill and Woods have been injured so often, they would have had Blackson ready if they committed him to the NT spot.

They really should have signed a big beast or put that 375-400 pound tackle Terren at NT

I liked Blackson at end in preseason too and I do remember that athleticism on that catch he made even but all this stuff ignored the NT spot

Well reporters are tweeting Mularkey comments. Looks like they hit him up after presser again-

Spain at G, Gaillick at backup C. I assume Poutasi at G too

Bleeding on right track to be back

Mariani had a nice night at WR tonight for the Bears

Someone in the game thread mentioned they were unhappy with him as returner.

He's ranked 8th and now plays WR well....send him back then. Maybe spoiled from regularly leading the NFL in KR?

He is one of the several that I totally didn't "get" in Whisenhunt's house-cleaning. How do you not like a hustler, obvious good boy like that? And he was cheap and a pro bowl returner before getting injured.

New coach, house cleaning...I have my fears about this upcoming offseason.

Cowboys lost Romo, they might only win 3 now.

Not only do I not want the Titans to win so they get the first pick, now I want the Boys itching to trade up to that pick and swapping places for an OL.

Also most of the losing teams all have RBs except Boys and Titans.

Presser not on website today, everyone tweeting

Wright's full go

Took Yannick a week, likely promoted from PS (yeah nice decision Whis. Tavai would have got this. Must be Yannick came back better from time off)

McBride KR, Douglas and Cox PR

Spain LG, Gailick playing C...so Looney must be benched now

Rico could be waived to make room for Yannick. McBride to be 4th WR as per Glennon and now PK saying same

Wyatt tweeted Derrick Morgan DNP

I thought it was a tweak or twinge or whatnot, didn't expect this

Carr throwing it away and the Raiders OL are first in NFL with only 13 sacks allowed. Titans 4th in D getting sacks

Also, something Mariota (and Mett) needs to grasp. Throwing it away, "live to play another play", don't take a negative etc. Probably a good week for them to watch and learn from film if they checked opposing offense at all. Carr's been excellent in year two at this. The unspoken thing is how it bothers a line or lineman to feel failure when they allow a sack. There's a "moral victory" (morale really) which they can help with too

Morgan did not practice on Thursday or Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Oakland. Titans coach Mike Mularkey said there’s a chance Morgan will be used in a similar pass-rushing role as he was against the Jaguars.

“That’s kind of the plan of attack right now based on how much he has practiced,” Mularkey said. “Again, that will be another game-time decision.”

Mularkey said the injury may continue to bother Morgan for the remaining six games.

“I think it’s something we’ve got to monitor the whole year, there’s no question about that,” Mularkey said.

When the Tennessee Titans installed Mike Mularkey as interim head coach, they said he’d get a look for the permanent job.

Interim president and CEO Steve Underwood said it was a chance to audition, but that the team intends to cast a wide net in searching for a new coach once the season ends.

For Mularkey to stick, Underwood said, “we would need to see measurable improvement.”

And what that guy said in Ask Jim...people are "off" if they think the Titans need to replace Lewan.

Awesome rookie, struggling 2nd year at times doesn't make him a bust. He's had some very nice moments and I've never heard anyone lose faith in the guy.

All the draft writers thinking they go LT in the 1st to replace him ummm not a fan of that point of view.

Poutasi is 21. His youth matters. He could still be the RT. I'll wait for some new line coach to decide. Regardless, their first being on a LT seems crazy to me.

Most pathetic stat you've seen this week-

DOUGLAS REACHES MILESTONE, SCORES: In his 100th career NFL game, wide receiver Harry Douglas caught a 13-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, giving him two touchdown receptions this season and 10 for his eight-year career. His two touchdown receptions tie his career high for a season, a mark set in 2013 and matched in 2014.

I didn't see holding on Webb and thought that was a phantom call. He was in late probably for being frustrated with Bleeding(cut him already) but why was he active and Riggs was inactive? Could have totally used Riggs today...why when ya face Cooper and Crabtree and not think good young corner is an idea?

That call aside, bad INT and bad defense allowed the W on the last two possessions

Spain had a couple penalties. One was ticky tack that probably garnered their close attention because the first was a big time hold.

I thought he was very good. I was impressed.

Now why has he been sitting all this time and when does the other impressive G on the second team play? Matias?

Also, like I've been saying, Lewan has struggled with a bad G next to him. Fine play by Spain and Lewan is all set again.

I'm sick of Warmack's up N down play- monster one play, pushover the next. He's been in the league a few years and hasn't fixed this/improved. Push him-hold him to a standard the last five games. Put Looney, Poutasi, or Matias there to send a message; Bell at G Poutasi at RT...whatever. He needs to be stop being part of the problem and instead part of progress, wasted too high a pick on inconsistency. He is a supreme talent but never been pushed and held accountable.

4th Q drive that was almost all Andrews and plenty of Fowler- where has that been? That was the preseason O right there?

Early drive with Walker and Stevens, in a rain storm-that's when you stop using 2 and 3 TE set? THEN!

Both those drives, Mariota also looked good. The run game really fuels his game with his fake handoffs

I didn't see but four or five decent relatively normal WR routes today-all day.

What I saw was Michael misunderstanding what Whisenhunt meant in preseason when this was scripted and picks worse than a 3rd grade basketball team. It is essentially a pick N roll made to fit football. Play 2 on 2 hoops with Michael, please! He has no idea. To go further, Mariota and DGB versus he and Wright would probably be fitting. Either do that or get rid of the stupid obsession with picks. It is football.

What I don't understand is the lack of rolling with what works or "the hot hand." Why does each drive (seem) scripted to involve only certain players and not build upon the previous?

Because Mularkey doesn't have the sense or knowledge to do so
Let Horton or Lebeau coach the O then.

We know without a doubt that they hold guys accountable, switch til they find something that works and stick with that.

That's enough to close out the season. Horton is darn creative, might even pull a rabbit out of a hat here

Would we want him in Tennessee? He's a "love him or hate him" kind of polarizing person to fans, but I also get the feeling he's that way among players too. The Titans need a team identity as a whole, and a divided locker room sucks for any team, especially in rebuilding mode.

Right now there should be a divided locker room. Past NFL history seems to indicate this happens when one unit is far better than another. Top 5 D, bottom 5 O.

Brown mouthed off on twitter and got benched. Lebeau runs a tight ship, I can't imagine another coach not appreciating him.

There is a segregation to it that will be there with any coaches. D meetings, then unit meetings, D watches tape of offense, "man up" in practice etc.

Chip does delegate. It irritates Eagles fans that he works 9 to 5 and says things like family is important too. That would totally be well received in TEN. He has to be good at delegating to pull off a 9 to 5 shift. That'd go back to-Lebeau's got the D covered don't worry about that.

I guess Steelers South would have to consider Todd Haley, no?
That offense can sure light it up some weeks and still get the keep Lebeau/Horton vibe
