Talk of new coach replacing Lebeau with new DC starting already....

Obviously the HC will have to have final word on who his DC is going to be. But to come in and NOT want Lebeau seems odd.
The Lebeau/Horton combo I could see might be an issue, and there might be something in the dynamics and roles there that would become problematic.
Honestly I don't want any HC that doesn't want he and Horton.
Last year on a horrible team we saw all sort of fronts and creativity (that failed) but geesh it was so clear Horton was trying anything he could. This year, he has totally been a "team player" accepting his demotion and contributing.
We're halfway through and they're a top 3 defense. How is that possible? I don't care if it's not perception just statistics, the results are still that Lebeau is a magician. The longer the season wears on the harder for them to statistically drop in rankings. At this point, they'd need to be blown out a few times to finish outside the top ten.
"Steelers south" nickname is somewhat true and I have had no problem with that. Parts of their staff are quite experienced and they're fortunate to have them like a former HC stepping in to coach right now. I respect that team and their image, continuity, and tradition. There's parts that matchup real well with Fisher's and as you can see Munchak is adored in Pitt.
Titans fans and Steelers fans have always appreciated the high effort excellent work ethic types, regardless if they're the best players.
The very best solution is for the billionaires to throw a ton of money at Cowher.
Someone mentioned Fisher might not be so inclined to move to Cali assuming the Rams go...he's like an ex-wife now, thanks for the memories had some good times, moved on.
Neither of these are reasonable so I'm starting to lean back toward keeping Mularkey. I can't think of another Steeler coach.
It's very important that the new coach re-connect with their alumni that Whis seemed to disconnect from outside of Eddie George. Not only is the idea of former players helping current ones a good one, but the community seems to really appreciate this too and they're falling in fan support.
I don't much care for the OL coach and thought he was a terrible hire day one. He has not proven me wrong. Today that is my only coaching concern. Bruce Matthews was not re-signed for 2015 and Roos has spoken of wanting to coach. That'd be perfect right there IMO. Easy too. And without asking, I don't imagine any prob if the owner asked any of these Steeler coaches about adding a HOF lineman to coach OL.
What is a very real possibility and almost terrifies me, is the notion of being the Cleveland Browns and always rebuilding and always replacing decent talent with rookie talent. That franchises rarely takes a step forward. And I'd like to think Titans fans would riot if they spoke of trading a pro bowl C and pro bowl T in another rebuild like Cleveland did.
Whitehurst is gone, Douglas is overpaid, but McCluster is effective and most of the "Whisenhunt boys" are not a problem where they need to clean house with them. It mattered to me, as you saw here, but on the radio shows a few players mentioned it too- Tavai coming back was significant. You don't cut the hardest working UDFA that worked his way up the depth chart to fill in for your starter thru OTAs and some of camp. Lewan playing terribly, not saying the best things after, and losing his captain title. Zach Brown benched for mouthing off on twitter and overpursuit. Riggs getting a chance and keeping a spot because of results. You can see Mularkey trying to show the team oh so clearly what he appreciates.
That's all totally fine with me and all I want in rebuilding. Lewan will be fine. He can take it on the chin for now. I have no worries of him. Poutasi is 21 and I love that he got benched and responded by helping Looney. No doubt, in time, he'll be starting again. He's young he can handle the process.
No one mentioned Hunter's game but he handled the Saints DBs very well and it is starting to look like post Whis he's going to "breathe" and we shall see there.
Everything doesn't have to be favorable and I'm not under any illusion they're a top team that doesn't need changes, but I want changes created by competition not a new coach's ego.
No one around the NFL blinked when Mett took over this year. Did you notice? All of the flack from last year was gone. I enjoy him but there is no reason to have a chip like that on the sideline. They can get a decent backup QB cheaply. In trade, Mett could offer a new coach something in return that he covets. Mett for a RB or Mett for a pick or Mett for a G or....
Lebeau and this season's results may actually attract free agents for a change.
Just don't become Cleveland south
