I, too, am inclined to think management is dabbling here. It's too bizarre to think the coach came up with this bit of genius on his own. I guess I am a bit miffed at the absolute lack of loyalty Tennessee has shown two QBs who have been with it for years. This is one of those moves a GM makes and a coach gets fired for. They'll regret it later.
The way they treated McNair was terrible. The Titans don't have a good history with loyalty to their players, though. Remember Randall Godfrey?I guess I am a bit miffed at the absolute lack of loyalty Tennessee has shown two QBs who have been with it for years.

That's why I think it was a GM thing, a coach wouldn't have waited this long.I'm more stunned by the timing of it all. Collins has been sitting on his ### all offseason -- they should have signed him months ago so he could get up to speed, but now it'll be a rush job. Shoddy, shoddy job by Tennessee.
I agree. It also seems like a waste of money to aquire Collins. Collins is going to get killed in Tenn if he starts. The guy is not mobile enough to dodge balloons. This is a stupid move by the Titans. It just doesen't make sense at all.I'm more stunned by the timing of it all. I heard this mentioned a day or two ago. Nothing that Tennessee's management does would surprise me at this point.Did the NFL Network just say he might get cut? Is this old news?

If you dodge a wrench, you can dodge a linebacker.I agree. It also seems like a waste of money to aquire Collins. Collins is going to get killed in Tenn if he starts. The guy is not mobile enough to dodge balloons. This is a stupid move by the Titans. It just doesen't make sense at all.
Maybe the fans want Young, so they need to find a way to make it happen. Ticket sales and all (Vick). They're strategizing to accelerate Vince Young getting into games. They know Collis will suck, so they can justify putting Young into games, to the fans.
Actually, the Titans were trying to sign Jeff George for quite some time, but they just couldn't match Oakland's offer so they signed Oakland's ex-QB just for spiteI'm more stunned by the timing of it all. I don't get it. So even if you think Volek is horrible (I think he would have been a perfect 1 year guy for this team) how can you possibly justify the Titans signing Collins who is worst than Volek at this point in his career to be your teams starting QB?And I don't want to hear what Collins did in the past; I know his past. Collins at this stage in his career is bad. Why not see what Volek has? Why waste money on Collins? Why wait 2 weeks before the season starts to make this move? Don't you think it is a complete waste of money? It is a bad move no matter how you look at it!It is not as if this team is super bowl bound. Why not give the guy who clearly knows the system and has had some statistical success in the past with this team a shot at starting this season? If i was a Titan fan I would be grossed out at the thought of watching a player like Collins come in 2 weeks before the season starts and get handed the starting gig. It is actually quite comical. Not stunned here...but then again, Ive been predicting this exact situation since April so...Volek is a HORRIBLE starting QB. Im glad the Titans figured this out before the games count.
Couldn't agree more! Also, regardng the Browns potential interest in Volek, I can't see Volek leaving to take a backup role with any team, at least not this year. I would think that Volek would weight his options if it came down to a backup role with someone else and decide to stay put in Tennessee because with the thought process that even if Collins starts the season and maybe a game or two afterwards, he won't be the true leader or hero for god's sake to guide this team very far. He'll get into trouble early and often enough to allow Volek to jump back in at number 1. I say this simply speculating that Tennessee is really crazy or stupid enough to start Collins in the first place. For all we know it could simply be hype..I'll explain...... I believe they have brought him in because he certainly does have the experience and is not necessarily a horrible QB by any means, plus he can step in as a backup and possibly have some decent success in that role. That said, he's no superstar. If I were to try and get into the heads of Tennessee's mgmt/Coaching, I am guessing that they don't want Volek becomming complacent knowing that V. Young is still a good year or two out. If Volek doesn't have anyone pushing him to stay sharp, how does one perform? I think that varies between individuals. Some perform better this way, maybe Volek does not, or maybe they feel he doesn't. Possibly Tennesee feels Volek needs a real threat in order for him to play at his highest potential. Just my two cents. I'm not too worried if Collins starts the first game or two (which I don't think will happen if Volek isn't traded) because I don't believe he'll have the chemistry with the team to be successful in this short of time. Especially timing with receivers, respect from the team who has been counting on and listening to Volek's signal calling and leadership both as a backup and starter for quite some time now. It won't be a walk in the park for Collin's and I'm gonna hold firm on my earlier statement that I believe it's a firm nudge to get Volek to compete at his highest level.I don't get it. Or maybe, I'm just flat out wrong! Man, and I thought I was on to something.. Read http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2567498 What's up over there in Tennesee guys? I wonder if the Randall Godfrey thing still resonates in the clubhouse and has been sapping the morale of the team since then?I wonder if the McNair thing still does too?The way they treated McNair was terrible. The Titans don't have a good history with loyalty to their players, though. There's probably not 3-4 players here now that where even here when Godfrey was released...and most of them need to be released themselves. You guys have no clue on the McNair thing -- he was NEVER going to get paid the money that the Ravens were offering. He's happy now.I think we need a little bit of housecleaning. Get it done and over with. Wouldn't suprise me they had the perfect opportunity to have McNair groom VY... why they didn't take it still baffles me.I wonder if the Randall Godfrey thing still resonates in the clubhouse and has been sapping the morale of the team since then?I wonder if the McNair thing still does too?The way they treated McNair was terrible. McNair had said publicly that he wasn't interested in grooming his replacement. He just doesn't view himself as a guy who is on the verge of the end of his career. To say that Tennessee "didn't take" the opportunity to have McNair stick around is revisionist history as he forced his way out by not renegotiating and obviously ridiculous cap number.Wouldn't suprise me they had the perfect opportunity to have McNair groom VY... why they didn't take it still baffles me.I wonder if the Randall Godfrey thing still resonates in the clubhouse and has been sapping the morale of the team since then?I wonder if the McNair thing still does too?The way they treated McNair was terrible. Thank God. Someone else that actually knows what they are talking about. McNair signed his own pink slip here.McNair had said publicly that he wasn't interested in grooming his replacement.
