**TNF on Prime - Falcons at Buccaneers**(-5.5, 43.5) FF Playoffs Kickoff at 8:15 - Let's GO!!! (1 Viewer)

Pitts not an awesome blocker.

Now, why anyone would use him for that is a mystery…
Arthur Smith's favorite thing to do which got him in the doghouse and was partly why his stats sucked so much in years 2 & 3.

I saw this thing from Sumer Sports's AI (it's just a research tool). I asked who had the most disparity in EPA between personnel groupings provided that the formation made up at least 10% of that team's total plays with that particular personnel grouping. The first two brought negative comments because the teams are choosing to play heavier in ways that are tremendously above the average and are also deleterious to their offense. Atlanta is making its case for running their offense through 12 personnel tonight for sure.

Arthur Smith came right up.

1. Atlanta Falcons - 0.365 EPA Gap
  • 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE): +0.077 EPA/play (86.2% usage)
  • 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 TE): -0.288 EPA/play (10.4% usage)
  • This represents the most extreme efficiency difference in the NFL between commonly used formations
2. Pittsburgh Steelers - 0.360 EPA Gap
  • 11 personnel: +0.015 EPA/play (51.4% usage)
  • 13 personnel (1 RB, 3 TE): -0.345 EPA/play (16.4% usage)
  • Their heavy tight end package is notably inefficient despite significant usage
3. Baltimore Ravens - 0.220 EPA Gap
  • 12 personnel: +0.339 EPA/play (31.1% usage)
  • 11 personnel: +0.119 EPA/play (28.1% usage)
  • Unique among teams for being more efficient with additional tight ends
4. Tennessee Titans - 0.173 EPA Gap
  • 12 personnel: +0.033 EPA/play (17.2% usage)
  • 11 personnel: -0.140 EPA/play (68.6% usage)
  • Another team performing better with heavier personnel groupings
5. San Francisco 49ers - 0.169 EPA Gap
  • 21 personnel (2 RB, 1 TE): +0.145 EPA/play (34.9% usage)
  • 11 personnel: -0.024 EPA/play (48.3% usage)
  • Exceptionally efficient with fullback-based formations

***This is wrong. Never trust AI until you verify everything. Atlanta is spot-on by running this formation. I'll double check Pittsburgh

Gotta be honest; I have never liked how many defensive penalties come with an automatic first down. I get that they can't incentive defenses to commit penalties instead of playing defense but, would it be so bad if that Illegal Contact penalty was five yards and still 3rd down, instead of five yards and automatic 1st down?
