My first encounter with a Deathclaw was near Vault 92 at the top of the map. Didn't take long for me to get housed and decide I needed to wait awhile before I came back.

I've only gotten above 2k in caps once so far, and that only lasted for 30 seconds until I saw what I had and bought something for the house. Moira never has very many caps on her, so I think I'll have to hit Rivet City and some other vendors (I need to find some more, for sure) to see if I can make some more dough. I already have spare weapons and apparel sitting in my house doing nothing.
have you been to Canterbury Commons yet?

with the DLC on new vegas, what level can you get to with your character?

never played any of the fallout extra packs- are the NV ones decent?

thought about firing up NV this weekend and alternating nights being the bad guy(girl) in DC and the good guy in vegas. switch afterwards and try harder level.
level 50.

The DLCs are pretty good. In the beginning I didn't like Dead Money but that's mostly because it was so different

Stopped off there to add it to my map, but didn't have enough caps to give the dude more than maybe 500 caps for one shop?

do you guys just clean out a building, sell everything, rinse, repeat? don't think I have ever had more than 8k in caps. or do you bump up your barter levels?

don't think I come a cross a vendor with more than about 500 caps on them.
Kinda. I grabbed the lucky perk early to find more caps. I searched every desk cabinet and body I could. Selling scrap metal mashes a ton too. Huge coin on sellingthe map locations as well.

Downtown DC, you hear a distress signal. Quest starts in the Underworld if/when you have sufficient medicine still

oh. did Reilly's rangers. checked last time, and I had 70 locations already? seemed high, but maybe I won't make much if I have to that many?

IIRC she pays for all of them when you go back

Yeah and she will keep paying you. .. I'm pretty sure the dlc locations count too because I got a second massive windfall from her after I did them all.

Meanwhile.....

Started a new game on 3. Feel like I should do the beginning again before I start New Vegas. Jacked explosive up right away and deactivated the bomb in megaton 10 seconds after I walked in. And I jacked speech too so Moriarty was nice and I did a speech check to clear him as well. Started in Arefu and I think I'm going to do that first to get the vampire power and then do the survival guide....

what's the vampire power?

feel like I could do this game 10 times through and still miss ####.

I assume at that point all your perks and stats are maxed out.

If you make peace with them and arefu they offer you the power to drink blood and it gives you 20 hp. Comes in handy.

Nice. Don't think I have ever not killed them all. That would be a nice perk - I am leaving tons of blood packs behind.

FO3 has completely locked up in me - not sure what's going wrong but started a New Vegas game last night. It's been so long since I played I'm going through the tutorial again. Was tempted to choose the hardcore setting because there's some special bonus at the end but since I've never played NV all the way through I declined. Will try to stay with the main quest this time - but I do love me some wandering around and shootin stuff. Gonna try not to rage the Legion right off the bat like I usually do - the death squads are not fun.

Any recommended companions for sticking to the main quest?

Jacked explosive up right away
This makes a huge difference throughout the game imo. Only way I play now. Grenades and mines go from firecrackers to actually killing things and you can immediately disarm grenade bouquet traps. Also helps with pulse explosives against Sentries. Almost makes bottlecap mines and nuka grenades too powerful - but very fun against a group.

Boone+ED-E

But with Boone you invariably end up ticking off the legion

My favorite weapon has become the Alien Disintegrator. And I have like 100 of them from the Zeta missions.

I finished the brotherhood of steel missions last night. I must admit that the final mission is one hell of an awesome ride. I can imagine it being damn near impossible on the hardest levels though. But everything about it was fun. And I agree with NC - that DLC was perfect and a perfect fit to the overall story. The other ones were hit or miss and Zeta just turned awful - for me at least. Like I said, I still use the weapons I got from it so all in all....

And after I finished the BoS final DLC stuff I found myself wandering....... with nothing really to do. I am pretty sure I have done every quest there is to do. There are still some sites that I haven't visited yet but most seem to be satillite towers and the like. I am still going to explore every spot but I did have some time to think that maybe it would not be as fun as just starting over and maybe doing things in some spots differently. Playing evil doesn't do it for me simply because it doesn't look like that really does anything - so you're evil? You don't get to be like the lead slaver or anything, right? You are just someone that everyone knows sucks. So still not going to blow up Megaton. But I could certainly do some other things differently and get a different feel to the story and game.

I'm up to 30 grand in caps. Yeah, at some point they really do become usless, huh? When I know I am going to buy something or get near someone who sells something good I just load up on the junk I've found all over the place (100 deathclaw hands anyone; 100 cartons of cigarettes, etc...) and just end up getting paid to also take what I want. My nuka cola machine has like 100 bottles as well at home. All in all, I'm probably living about as close to a kingly lifestyle in the wasteland as you can.
You can be evil in New Vegas and explore the Legion missions for Caesar. Its still not quite diabolically evil or anything but those legionairs can be real #####. More quests have negative karma type decisions as well were you can screw people over or betray/kill folks. Theres one decision I loved near the end that has dialogue options that are a homage to Glengarry Glenross.

If I ever play thru again I may try to be evil, but the legion is messed up. The NCR Rangers tied to mines or the crucified folks. Makes it hard to play their side for me.

It is more about your repair skill than it is about barter. Just stash every weapon and armor you find in your home. Use the really beat up ones to repair the ones in better condition. As your repair skill increases, you will begin adding far more value to the repaired item than the beat up item was worth. Even on crappy guns like a pistol.

And since you scrounged all of this stuff anyway, the extra value you add is pure profit. Having a higher barter helps but really isn't necessary.

Also if you get the Comprehension perk, you'll get two Repair points when reading Dean's Electronics.

The music I've heard so far fits in so perfectly that if someone installed it in your game without telling you, it would probably take you awhile to realize you were hearing new songs on the radio that you hadn't before. I think a lot of them are by the same artists as the ones in game. All I've heard so far have that vintage sound to them. Have only caught a couple of the ads so far.

Level 5 in my restarted game. Just finished all the Arefu stuff. Loading New Vegas now to see what the fuss is about. All dlc locked and loaded as well. Wish me luck.....

Good luck. I am going to dive back in after I go see Guardians of the Galaxy this morning. Found a 6 dollar showing.

Man, I really need a radio mod for New Vegas. May have to just keep it off. Just got to Primm and I'm already sick of "Johnny Guitar"

Ok. So I'm trying to put together the quest in goodsprings where I protect rocco. Got everyone on board except dynamite guy.

The speech tests aren't percentage based in this one are they? You need to be a certain level to do something? And the ammo casing stuff is going to annoy me I can feel it.

There is a level involved yes. without it you have no chance.

As for the casing - it exists so you can make useless ammo into useful ammo. Like 20 gauge shotgun shells to 12 gauge shells, using the powder and the lead, just putting it in a different casing. While you are playing where casings don't have weight it's just a way to up your ammo in a bad situation, where you have access to a reloading bench, e.g. having escaped into a house with a gazillion cazadores outside. God, I hate those things.

You have to have 25 explosive skill to get the dynamite. I wandered around and did other stuff to level up and came back to get this done.

oof. looked like the DLCs added a couple sweet guns at the start of NV. shotgun and grenade launcher? thought I was a badass, so started roaming north of the cemetery. 2 giant radscorpions killed me in about 2.2 secs. forgot that foes have different armor ratings. gave them 3-4 blasts and it didn't do a damn thing.

So far New Vegas is a lot of fun without the Legion shutting me down. Right now I'm pretty much where I've always ground to a halt in the past - just completed Come Fly With Me and launched the ghouls - and took a stroll in front of the dinosaur.I have Veronica as a companion (can't do anything with Ed-E yet) and she's just punching the #### out of everything. I only want to carry 4 or 5 weapons and I seem to have a knack for getting rid of a weapon right before I find a cool mod for it. I current;y have "That Gun", 9mm SMG modded, grenade launcher, and shotgun. Looks like they have a lot of fun mods for the western repeater so I may start to carry that.

If I ask Boone to join me does Veronica take off?

You have to boot Veronica before asking Boone

I saved rocco. Finally got leveled up to get explosives high enough to get lucky pete in on it. Ended up not needing anyone add I took them out while they were bunched up.

Went to the prison. Did the first two missions there. . Heading to primm. Explored a little. Seems like there is less finding stuff and more stealing. Don't know if I like that.

Well I didn't get as much time in as I had hoped i would. Wandered about a little bit doing little side missions/exploring while on my way to confront Benny and ended up at Camp Mcarran. Did the spy mission. Then I went to Vault 3 killing many addicts along the way. Stopped before I went into the Vault to catch a bit of the Hall of Fame game. Oh if you decide to raid the motel on your way to that Vault one of the rooms had 4 bark scorpions in it. First time I have been poisoned. Luckily I have found a decent amount of anti-venom and took care of it.

Did the same. Used the grenade launcher on them actually.

Still no followers. I haven't even run into anyone who seems like one really. Oh well maybe when I get to Vegas.

You have to have been in Primm and Novac already.

I saw Ed-E in Primm, but nowhere near the level for repair or electronics to fix him and have him come along.

Oh yeah I have. I make my home in Novac. I never did see Ed-e and no one I have talked to in Novac seems very followerish. I may go back to Primm and pick up Ed-e. My repair is at 50 would that be high enough?

Had to take that out when I got jumped by all the guards when I went into the main guy's office building. Couple well timed shots took most of them out.

Ed-E is broken on a table or desktop in Primm. Easy to pass by. I think one of the guys you can talk to in town mentions him too. If I remember correctly, repair needed to be 65, and science 55 (might have that backwards). I think you might need a part or two as well - scrap metal, scrap electronics.

Novac guy is there at night.

A few observations from the short time I have been playing NV this time around:

1. Like I said, even though I have gotten in trouble already, I do like the tweak on the armor ratings. Makes enemies harder early on.

2. Seems like energy weapons are more powerful. Took two plasma gun blasts from the main guy at the prison and it seemed to do a lot of damage.

3. Somebody just posted it, but it also seems like less stuff is lying around. Damn near EVERYTHING in the prison was red.

4. I do like the difference in repairing weapons. I like that you can repair anything, it just doesn't repair as quickly. Hated not being able to repair something

just because I was 2pts away from a level or something. Also like that different weapons can combine during repairs as well.

5. Forgot that you can only perk up every other time that you level up. Will have to think about that more

ED-E is in the courier's office in Primm

Best sheriff for Primm? The powder keggar gang hates me with everything in their being after I helped invade the prison. But I have sheriff choices now. The deputy is dead. Wimpy putz that he is.

By the time I investigated them all there was only one left living. oops.

Next time I play this I'm going to start off with high survival and repair - really want to make stuff at campfires and workbenches.

I usually have the music off but for some reason I had it on one day, first time I noticed Johnny Guitar was when it was playing as I found the crucified townspeople in Nipton.

I am not sure how I missed the prison invasion thing. But since I didn't do that I walked right in and walked out with the sheriff. Maybe I should go back and invade at this point. Powder Keggers already hate me.As does the legion. I am pretty sure the Fiends hate me or will real soon. Not sure if the Khans have figured out who I am yet but since killing some of them I am sure I won't be on their Christmas list. Oh then there is that other gang that hates me and I can't even think of their name. You know seeing it written out like that I have made a ton of enemies and I still haven't made it to Vegas.

I generally make the securitron from the casino sheriff. If the deputy survives he's too slimy, and the other guy got sent to prison for a reason. Besides there's something as too much law ;)

See I figured prison sheriff was the right guy for the job. Sure he occasionally kills someone who might should have had a trial. But I kill a lot of people, no trial necessary, so who am I to judge?
