Tomlinson Injures Toe (1 Viewer)

Tomlinson said the injury – he termed it “turf toe” – occurred on his next-to-last carry of the game, when he ran for 9 yards to earn the Chargers a first down at the Carolina 7. “The guy kind of landed on the back of my leg,” Tomlinson said.

Tomlinson carried for only 1 yard on the next play, and then motioned to the sideline to be taken out. He never returned, with the Chargers scoring two plays later on a 5-yard pass from Philip Rivers to Vincent Jackson.

The ailment, however slight, and the outcome were a downer in an otherwise decent first outing for Tomlinson, who didn't play in the preseason and hadn't carried the ball in a real game since aggravating his knee injury on the fourth play of last year's AFC Championship Game at New England.

sorry about the Honda. Can't search for toe or "LT" cause they are too short. Please delete thread mods.

First year I've ever had him...I knew he would break down. I thought I'd get more than one good game out of him though.

Excellent. Brady in one league... LT in another. My first round picks are looking pretty rough this year.

That said... I'm sure this won't hamper him TOO much. Who's the handcuff now? I know this was a back and forth situation...

Thanks, good tip.

It's never fun to see your guy (1st overall) admit to an injury, particularly one with a long history of hampering fantasy performance. But Tomlinson gutted it out, and I suspect he wouldn't be so freely discussing it if it was something he really felt would impair him. Not the best news you could hear certainly, but nothing that should send you into a panic either.

The handcuff is either rookie Jacob Hester (5-10, 226lbs) who is the fullback and has had a nose for goal line TD's in the preseason or the smaller Darren Sproles (5-7, 180lbs) who is also the KR and has shown flashed of extreme quickness and brilliance. Hester has looked great in the preseason and Sproles has looked great at the end of last season and proved that he can do the job so the answer is probably that they split the carries if LT can't play.

FWIW, got his email today from a subscriber that was at the game.

Was at the game yesterday and after all was said and done, I watched LT jog over to the group of kids he brings to all the home games. He ran a good 50 yards across the field, toward where I was, and he had zero sign of limping or any other discomfort. Of course, he wasn't at full speed, or cutting, but he looked fine.

He got the update via email...there is no link to be got...

I may be wrong on this one but I didn't think turf toe impaired one's ability to run in a straight line...I thought it affected your ability to make cuts.

I may be wrong on this one but I didn't think a medical doctor diagnosed LT with turf toe? I thought that was just his guess. :football:

 Like he gutted out his knee sprain in the AFC championship game last year?

He had one play for one yard and then pulled himself from the game with his team inside the 10... not what I'd consider gutting it out.
