Tony Scheffler (1 Viewer)

I took a late round flyer on Tony Scheffler because it is the Broncos but maybe I am stuck on the old TE happy Broncos. Last year Putzier led all Bronco TE's with 37-481-0 which just is not very impressive. I wanted to get everyone take on Tony Scheffler's 2006 fantasy prospects. Also, here is his Draft Profile

This year I don't think you'll see much more than those numbers for Scheffler, althougth I do believe his TD total will be higher. He'll have at least 4 TDs this season, possibly as many as 6.

It would depend on the scoring system - it would NEED to be a PPR or high yardage league.

Pull up ANY rookie TE stats and you will not find many worthy of a roster spot. The TD total for Miller last year (6) was an aberation. The 2 TD total of TB rookie Alex Smith is much more in line with the norm.

....and I do mean ANY rookie TE stats.

IMO - take away Keith Jackson (1988 phi 81rec 869yards 10.7avg 6TDs) and you have a grand total of ZERO rookie TEs you would want on your team.

The combo of learning the pro passing game and pro blocking schemes is simply too much to pick up in one year for even the best at the position.

Scheffler's worth nothing more than a very late round flier in redraft leagues. He's barely a top 20 TE this season. In Dynasty leagues, his value is quite a bit higher.

I liked what I saw of Scheffler preseason, drafted him late and traded him away to a team hoping to rebuild...I think he's a year away from meaningful fantasy numbers...

I'm as high on Scheffler as anybody, but like many have said before me, rookie TEs rarely produce. That said, his upside is huge (dynasty). This kid has the ability/situation to be a top-5 TE in the future.

Fifteen rookie TEs have topped 60 FPs the last 15 years.

Fight on, fight on for Western! Over one, over all we will reign!!!

Don't act like the Saints tight end coach who overlooked this guy and thought he'd be nothing more than a 2nd day draft pick. The Broncos found a gem and more importantly they found their #3 option through the air much like Shannon Sharpe used to be. For the first time since Sharpe they have a legit pass catching TE. He's a physical specimen and will have a better year than Vern Davis of SF. Tony's speed and size will create many mismatches in the secondary. Denver also saw how WMU used his skills in college when the WMU Broncos lined him up at WR many a times. The Denver Broncos plan on doing the same thing. He's in a system that will allow him to succeed early in his career. I like him for 50-60 grabs for 600-700 yards and 4-6 TDs. I've followed him because I live in the area where he attend college. Don't be like the Saints personell department who claimed he was nothing more than a 6th or 7th rounder. He's going to turn heads just like Greg Jennings out in GB.

I would only use him during a bye week but it appears he really has an incredible upside, well at least what I saw in preseason. The team likes him and his speed is up there with the best.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the preseason. The vast majority of Scheffler's production came care of Jay Cutler. The two have a great bond with each other, since they're both rookies, they're both roomates, and they both took the majority of their snaps with the second team. If Cutler comes in, I expect Scheffler's numbers to skyrocket, but with Plummer under center, Rod Smith and Javon Walker are going to be the only two fantasy targets worth owning this year, in my opinion.Scheffler might put up some decent numbers this year, but is really going to hit his stride in 2007 or 2008.

I have Scheffler as a TE2 behind Gonzalez as long as he is good during Gonzalez's bye week I am good. I have read that Denver wants to pass more this year than last year so I gave Scheffler a go as a backup. In the preseason he has impressed me by getting open but it was the preseason and he is a rookie. Right now I haven't seen anything that says he is even the starter but he should be able to beat out Stephen Alexander and be the primary receiving TE

Rest easy there. He's already beaten out Alexander for the primary receiving TE role, which was Putzier's role last year. The question is whether his blocking is good enough that he'll see the field in the red zone this year.

Great article in the Denver Post yesterday on how Scheffler got a call from an old friend, in Michigan, telling him excitedly that he had drafted Scheffler in the 3rd round of his fantasy draft. Sheffler said: "I told him, I think you should re-evaluate your selection process". " I hope this isn't a league thats costing you a bunch of money". :lmao:

This guy will be great one! I think he will be top 12 TE this year and top 5 from 07 on. Drafted him in one of my dynasty leagues but traded him away as I am a Gates owner with H.Miller as my B/Up.

I'm in the same boat, but with Witten as my TE1, so Sheffler is going to get a Week 3 start for me.

What did you get for him? I own Gates/Troupe in a dynasty league and selected Scheffler in the rook draft. I've been offered Chad Jackson straight up and I turned him down. It's still on the table though...

I gave up Benson and Big Tony and got L.White, M. Barber and 07 2nd rd pick. I'm a Bears fan and can't stand Benson. Gonna flake out of the league in 2-3 years just like all the rest of Da Bears #1 picks.

Took a chance on him as a back-up/bye week guy for Heap. Heap's bye is week 7, so I gifure by week 6, I will know if he is getting integrated into the offense or if I need to cut and run.

I agree he is a better value in a keeper league.
