Trade deadline - what offensive player is going where? (1 Viewer)

I would not be happy if I was a Minnesota fan.
Dobbs is fine and probably an upgrade over Mullens. The trader itself was totally fine by me.

This is just me talking, but I wanted Winston or Wentz. Basically a short-term, go-for-broke type move for the season and if they suck so what. But, I thought they had the highest ceiling of players potentially available and the fact that their floors are very low arguably helps as well. .

Brissett was my preferred "safe" choice. But. yeah, with Dobbs I may be able to watch a playoff game.
I almost wonder if Wentz is being black balled, or he's a head case or if theres something we are privy to hear. The guy was a near MVP in philly and Tommy Devito is throwing NFL passes over him? Is he looking for too much money?
He was hated by his teammates. Plus, he is a turnover waiting to happen. That one year you’re talking about is a distant memory.

Seems like a green M&M instead of a yellow M&M.

We’ll see how it looks in practice, but on paper it’s hardly an upgrade.

The question is whether Hock, JJ, & Addison are QB-proof.

I expect the volume to be low.
Eh, while I don't disagree with your analogy, Dobbs at least has significant playing experience this year and has looked serviceable. I'd rather have Dobbs for a playoff run right now than Mullens.

From a fantasy perspective, I do think Dobbs hurts the Vikings' receiver values.

Gregory so reportedly the Niners will only be on the hook for about a half $1 million. And if they can’t resign young, they’ll get a compensatory pick back.M so… Basically free.

Well, Green M&M's are the homerun M&M's. Yellow is for chickens.
THEY ALL TASTE THE SAME!

Technically, the blue M&Ms have a slight advantage over the other colors as the blue dye can cure paralysis if you have a spinal cord injury

Pretty easy to figure out why some players didn't get traded

Most of those numbers are quite reasonable. Everyone from Renfrow down, really.

I'd gladly pay that much for Hollywood if I had a QB who could throw a deep ball.

Agreed, but 7+ is a bit tough with some teams cap issues

He’s definitely a head case and generally difficult to work with

Was really hoping the Lions would have went after a DE. Sweat across from Hutch would have shown they are serious.

Well, not my peanut M&Ms, which are more beige, but yeah.

As someone with Addison…im a but more optimistic with Dobbs than the other qbs they had at least.
He seems to run more than the average scrub QB.

Correct me if wrong here but it seems Dobbs was better earlier in the season with a valid RB in James Conner. With the Vikes backfield being what it is - not very good - will Dobbs be able to make much of a difference? Fantasy wise, will he be able to support 2 pass catchers? No idea, but the defenses in that division aren't as good as the NFC west so maybe that's a reason to hope? (Addison owner here)
I have read that Dobbs is good with play action. Something that Cousins is also known to do well with, so there may be something there to your observation.

While I don't think the Vikings RB are very good, there are studies that have shown play action passing is not tied to the effectiveness of the teams running game, that it does well somewhat independently of that.

Minnesota got that 6th rounder back in the Ezra Cleveland trade. Too bad they couldn't get a little more for a young starting G.
Somehow they thought the 6th rounder was better than Ezra.
I was a bit puzzled about this.

Cleveland was actually having a better season than previously according to pff grades, of which I am skeptical, but at least there is some form of consistency in how they do this (I think?) and it was improvement.

However Cleveland was a free agent after this season and I am not sure what kind of contract he will get, but I am guessing more than the Vikings wanted to pay to keep him.

Risner who they have replaced Cleveland with is also a free agent in 2024. I am not sure what he will cost or if they intend to sign him to be the starter next season. That remains to be seen.

I would prefer to not have the Vikings starting a rookie there. Linemen take years to develop to their fullb potential usually. Especially later round picks at the position.

Obviously they have a plan here. I will have my eye on that before judging if I like their plan or not.

I'm guessing the move is about cap budget management.

Worth noting that since Rivera took over in Washington, they have now traded SF Chase Young and Trent Williams for 2 3rds and a 5th.

ETA: I don't think Chase Young has been a bust, I think he's been injured and in a bad organization. Pretty confident we'll look back and wonder how the 49ers pulled this one off too.
FWIW Trent Williams was unwilling to stay with Washington due to how they treated him when injured.

So they didn't have much choice about it and a discounted price due to that as well. The 49ers took advantage of the situation, other teams tried to.

Not sure the circumstances with Young.

Yes, indeed, it's true Chase Young has been injured...and indeed it's also true that the Snyder Redskins were a bad organization...but Chase Young is not without fault here, and he himself has plenty to do with the fact that he hasn't performed to the expected standard of a #2 overall pick in the Draft.

The 'skins didn't want to trade Sweat, and they wanted a way out of Young. As the deadline approached, they were getting offers for Sweat that were better than expected, and the market was decidedly low for what they hoped to get for Young. I'd bet dollars to donuts, at some point they stepped back and looked at the two deals as an aggregate, rather than individually, and that justified pulling the trigger.

Chase Young has maturity issues I hope he outgrows, although when you have a mentor like Jonathan Allen and can't seem to get past those issues, it might never happen.

I wish him the best, but won't miss him. Sure wishbwe hadn't had to part with Sweat, but we have more foundational holes to fill than will be better served with that likely high 2nd rounder.

Dobbs traded to Minny
Blech. Why bother if that's the level of player?
Totally disagree, Dobbs leaves. a 1-7 dumpster fire behind and actually looked decent in several games, some not as much but he has more weapons and OL/Defense to work with than he did in Arizona and he has a ton of snaps under his belt

With Cosuins gone for the season, I actually believe this is a brilliant move by a team that just crawled back to 4-4 after an 0-4 start
Addison and then JJ returns soon hopefully, TJ Hockenson

Don't be blinded here, i don't root for the Vikes but I watch most of these players and teams when the Phins aren't on live, also like some of the things I've seen in Dobbs
Don't be so quick to dismiss him as trash
In light of what happened with Cousins, at least the Vikings made a (EXPLETIVE) Move!
I'm pretty sure you root for the Vikes, it's understandable how you feel right now, lick those wounds because Dobbs is going to lead you into battle soon

Good Luck!!!

Vikings are still going to be challenged to try and make the Playoffs but as they get guys back like JJ, they already know Cousins is gone for a while,
I think in terms of being able to move forward and evaluate their other positions up and down the roster and the coaching staff, you couldn't ask for a better gift mid season.
I don't know the GM in Minnesota and maybe fans don't care for him, but he/she should get some credit for this move, it shows something that I find lacking in other front offices
Again, that's another part of the evaluation for MN fans, do you have the right people in place under the owner to succeed?

I'm happy for Dobbs and while I have never rooted for the Vikings, I like the story the rest of the way and I'm pulling for Dobbs to carve himself out a little career even as a back up.
