Travis Henry. Marijuana. Suspension? (1 Viewer)

Add this into the mix:

If Travis Henry is suspended in Denver, don't be surprised if the Broncos take a look at Adimchinobe Echemandu. He ran extremely well all through training camp and in the preseason in the same blocking system the Broncos utilize. He was waived to make room for Dominic Rhodes, coming off a four-game suspension.

I doubt that the Raides wanted to release him because they liked him, but it was a numbers game. All that I heard about Echemandu was good things. Now that he's available, the Broncos may want to take a look at him.

That's foolish talk - this game is all about speculation.EVERY owner should be looking to roster SY if they can. The question is whether it is also worth rostering any of the three other backs.Finally, noone made you open this thread - there are two threads on this page that are clearly "news only" threads.

I have read that this Henry thing could drag on for months. If so, I could hopefully get a healthy Sjax back at that time. A long delay in this Henry ordeal is beneficial in two ways: one he is a very good back this year and will continue to be productive until suspended; two he can now be offered in trades to people who are willing to take a chance a guy (obviously as part of a deal) who at minimum will produce another very few good weeks. JMO.

There lies an inherent problem with this scenario. THC, the active ingredient in marijuana remains in ones system for about a month. So depending when the grass was last ingested, the body may be clean at this point. Maybe I am wrong about how long it would remain as traceable in ones hair, so if so continue on with the enlightening thread.Finally decided to post in this fun.

Correct, it doesnt help his situation at all. He should have never tested dirty in the first place.
 
I'll offer this and take it for what you will, But during Shanny's postgame interview, he admitted that they lost because his head wasnt in the game. He didnt prep his team right and such.

Im not going to assume this is due to the Henry situation, but I am sure it did play a slight role in it.

I dont think it is out of the question for the Broncos to give Henry "time off" if this situation will be harmful to the team.

I believe a hair follicle test can detect THC for 6 months from use.

Pretty sure they do this type of testing before employing teachers, etc. Here's some info I clipped from the web:

Update: An NFL source indicated that Henry is scheduled to take a polygraph test this week regarding whether he recently smoked marijuana, the Denver Post reports.

Recommendation: Short-term memory loss jokes aside, it's clear that Henry is prepared to fight off (and thus delay) a possible suspension by the NFL. Henry also is reportedly willing to provide hair samples for testing. In any case, the Broncos appear prepared to stick with Henry as long as the legal process allows them to, and that could take weeks.

I have always loved this defense... And I also dont think the NFL will care

Agreed. I'm no toxicologist, but I would also think that he would've needed to be hot-boxing with people that were puffing in order to have enough exposure for it to show up in a lab test...which I think the NFL would find to be a violation of the general code of conduct.
 
Here's an update from RTSports:

Bill Williamson, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos RB Travis Henry's (knee, ankle) lawsuit against the NFL has been moved to New York City. He may be able to delay a possible one-year suspension from the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy by appealing the decision of the lawsuit if it does not go in his favor. An appeal could push a final decision on the matter into November and give him four or five more weeks to be able to play. Henry is scheduled to undergo a polygraph test this week to see if he has recently smoked marijuana and is willing to give hair samples to prove his innocence, according to an NFL source.Fantasy Impact: It looks like Henry could be around a little longer. He remains a must play as long as he isn't suspended. But Henry owners should have Selvin Young waiting in the wings just in case.

I used to work for a state crime lab. He tested positive in the urine test and Im sure he would test positive in the hair follicle test also. Each lab has their own testing protocol but they probably tested his A sample using some type of Immuno-Assay. If that sample tests above a certain cutoff value of for example 40ng/ml (THC) metabolites (not sure what it is) then they would test the B sample with a more sensitive method. Mass Spectrometry most likely. If he tested positive w/ his B sample also....sorry folks....he smoked the weed. In court it really is not going to matter what Henry said he did or didn't do (they won't allow him to use polygraph results if he was to take one). The polygraph test is not a test of innocence. It only tests your heart rate along with a couple of other conditions which are tied to your heart rate/breathing. I could teach someone in a week how to pass one.ETA: Everything that Henry is coming up with for a defense is very weak.

News: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell provided no update on the uncertain status of Broncos running back Travis Henry on Monday. Henry played Sunday vs. San Diego and is attempting to prevent the league from suspending him over the result of a positive drug test sample. "I got an update on Friday afternoon. I've got to talk to our people a little bit more about where we are with that," Goodell said. "But we'll be dealing with it on a timely basis."

Analysis: Henry gained 65 yards on 16 carries vs. San Diego in Week 5, easily his worst game this season. Henry is facing a one-year suspension for allegedly failing a drug test last month. He has sued the NFL in hopes of having the test results nullified, and he'll carry Denver's rushing load until the case is resolved. The Broncos are on bye in Week 6 but play vs. Pittsburgh in Week 7. We wouldn't recommend Henry in that game, and he may not even be on the active roster for that game pending court results. If you own Henry, make sure you make a play for his backup, Selvin Young, in the coming days.

Who's making odds? Will this be resolved before Denver comes out of bye?I don't know what to make of the legal process, but Goodell's track record says to me 75 percent chance it will be resolved by week 7. Any takers?
 
I hate to be the party pooper, but despite what Levin thinks, RBBC is a possibility. with Nalen out, i think the whole rushing attack will be merely average. IMO, w/o Henry this is an average team & RBBC, rendering SYoung et al. barely worth rostering.

I don't like being a naysayer, but the whole Denver offense is practically worthless moving forward. Denver will be lucky to sniff 8-8; 6-10 is a real possibility.

This is the important part, and I'm sure every agency doing testing has different minimal levels but the minimum is set so that casual contact (contact high) will not show up. For example, if you haven't smoked for a long time (more than a month or so) and your system is clean of all THC, in most cases you could smoke a joint/bowl to yourself and pass a test the next day because the cumulative amounts from one smoke session is not enough to exceed the habitual smoker's cutoff point. If you fail the test, you didn't get "just a contact high."

they could be 4-12 for all I care.. Look at Miami and tell me record means squat to running the ball.. WHEN Henry is suspended Young can be huge because of his opportunity alone.. Now he will have to prove that opportunity.. Most who have seen him think he can succeed.. Including me or I wouldn't have picked him up..

I'll go out on a limb and say Goodell urges the Broncos to give him some time off before the next game. However, I think this issue will drag on for about a month.

:shrug:A defense that can't stop the run, and a pro-bowl caliber lineman out is a recipe for being behind in quite a few games this year devaluing the DEN RBs significantly. I was holding out hope for Ricky going to Denver, but now (as an owner) I'm hoping he goes elsewhere if anywhere.

:lmao: I agree 100% with you, Nalen going out which I put the thread up on yesterday, has a huge impact in that running game. Denver could be 0-5 right now...maybe 6-10 is very likely.

THC will show up in the follicles for 6 months, correct? Urine for a month at the most, correct? If he passes a hair test, which I'm assuming is more accurate than the urine test, wouldn't that settle the matter?

Yep. Even if Selvin gets the ball full-time, I think the payoff is going to let a lot of people down.
