Travis Henry wins appeal (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any idea what the deal is?? What are the thoughts from the board on when/if Travis Henry will be suspended.

can you count on him on the fantasy playoffs?

I can because I have Selvin Young on the Bench. If you are not in that situation yourself you take a risk with Henry.

The league is just stalling to avoid the embarrassment in season... they have no case, are desperately looking for a way out.

Go Henry!! He may have this thing beat.
I'm thinking he has it beat as well. I mean, why else would it take so long to make a decision? Is the NFL so iffy on the decision that maybe they are waiting to see if Denver has a chance at the playoffs before making a ruling?Say they can get in....no suspension because there's shakey basis and Henry made a good case, so it's better in the long run to let this one go.Say they get eliminated.....suspend Henry for the remainder of the 07 season because the case can go either way and the presedence for "crime meets punishment" has been set by the commissioner.Henry DID beat a lie detector test and did submit a CLEAN hair test. Hair tests are suppose to be more accurate and contain more history than a urine test.

I keep going back and forth on this. I actually think that if they didn't have a case they would have already made a statement. The longer this goes on I think the worse it is for Henry. I am now starting to believe they are making sure they have all of the necessary bases covered to insure the suspension is not disputed by the NFLPA. I don't think they are digging for clues they don't have. I think they are taking the time to go through the proper channels and insure they have everything secured.

I agree....I have all 3 of them (Henry, Young, Hall), but obviously, T Henry has the most upside. It sure would be nice to know he is finally close to healthy and will ne the featured RB the rest of the way in Denver.

Imagine, Henry suspended, Hall not recovered, Selvin with new injury. You may need Cecil for your playoffs :kicksrock:

No case :pics: He failed a league drug test. Period. Anything else Henry did to prove he didnt smoke is a moot point.

:lmao: If it were that simple it wouldn't be taking this long to suspend him.

I wonder what the "true" hold up is? This isn't rocket science. Like I said earlier, I doubt the league wants to open up a can of worms they can't stomach. If they let Henry off the hook, what's to stop other players from challenging THC levels and how they got them? I can certainly see a lot of second hand smoke defenses in the future if he doesn't get suspended.

My guess: The league's lawyers are busy carefully wording the decision so that when the league suspends him (my guess anyway) the NFL's disciplinary decision is as legally defensible as possible. In my opinion, the league wouldn't be taking this long if they weren't going to issue discipline to a player. Why have the cloud of suspicion continue to hang over an innocent person's head? Just announce that there was no violation and move on.

The NFL is going to take disciplinary action against him it is just that Henry has his lawyers so heavily involved and the league doesn't want to potentially bungle the matter up further. So, the NFL is being deliberate about what it says in its decision and the basis for its decision so Henry can't argue that he was somehow denied due process and get the suspension overturned.

it's been tied up legally, which has nothing to do with the NFL mulling it over. The legal system takes time to play out and that is why this is taking so long. Everything else is pure speculation.

With only 4 weeks left in the season, do you think the NFL could wait till the off season to make a decision on this matter.

:moneybag:
This is the point I was trying to make a few posts above, but stated much more eloquently. I agree.

Anything is possible. At this rate, it might be 2009 before he is suspended. I have Young and Hall heading into the playoffs. I'm not counting on either of them. If Henry does get suspended soon, it will just be a nice bonus for me.

Just heard on 950am The Fan here in Denver that he won his appeal.

WOW.

:goodposting:

picked him up off the WW after another team dumped him. good to see the move will pay off (assuming he stays healthy)

Broncos Statement on Travis Henry

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos today were informed by the National Football League that running back Travis Henry has won his appeal.

We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter.

The Broncos look forward to Travis Henry's continued participation on the playing field.

For Dynasty folks...

I'd presume that Selvin is a hold at this point, and Hall is probably dropped to the waiver wire?

I believe the announcement from the Broncos, but I am VERY suprised that the NFL has not issued an official statement on this. Someone at NFL headquarters has definitely dropped the ball IMO.

Given how badly Henry and his lawyers have b***h-slapped the NFL since this was first announced maybe they think not commenting on the matter is the smart move to make. I'd tend to agree with that.

So where does this leave him in the substance abuse program for the NFL? Does he still have a year-long suspension looming over him if he gets in trouble again?

"We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter," the team said in a statement Tuesday.

The NFL told Henry in September he had failed a test for marijuana.

He disputed the results and sued the NFL to avoid a suspension. He contended the league violated its substance abuse policy by not allowing an expert of Henry's choosing to be present for the testing.

I don't see any reason to fear the Chiefs and the Texans' defense is pathetic. Henry could be huge the next two weeks in particular.

Hey Broncos, he won on a technicality. He was not absolved of any wrongdoing. He is a doper. When you buy his crap and try to rewrite history you demean your organization. I know you don't care, this has been demonstrated repeatedly as you go for malcontent mercenaries Like Dale Carter and Daryl Gardner, and when you repeatedly enable persons who endanger the community with their drinking and driving, doping, wife or girlfriend beating, gangsta affiliating, punks, but please, on top of your complete lack of ethics in pursuit of victory (in which you are miserably failing) don't piss on my back and tell me its raining. You value the doper because you need a back and the rest be damned.

Denver Broncos halfback Travis Henry won an appeal of his one-year drug suspension and will be able to finish out the remainder of the season.

Henry claimed his positive drug test for marijuana was because he was a victim of secondhand smoke. Faced with the possibility of getting a one-year suspension because he's been a past offender, Henry even took his case to a federal court.

After waiting for a ruling, Henry was notified Tuesday afternoon he won his appeal.

"Travis Henry will remain in the substance abuse program, must continue to adhere to all aspects of it, but will not be suspended following his appeal," the NFL announced in a statement Tuesday. "The defense of hair samples and lie detector tests was irrelevant and unconvincing, but our substance abuse program is based on meeting the highest standards and respecting player rights in all phases of its administration."

Henry convinced Mike Shanahan and the Broncos of his innocence by agreeing to a lie detector test and the use of hair samples for testing purposes. Had he failed the lie detector test, Shanahan said he would have considered releasing him, but Henry passed the test and had the full faith of his coach.

Henry has missed four games this year because of a knee injury. He has 629 yards on 143 carries and three touchdowns.

"We are pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter," the Broncos said in a statement. "The Broncos look forward to Travis Henry's continued participation on the playing field."

I just grabbed him at a hefty salary in my auction league... Nobody could afford him...I put him in my starting lineup over Willie Parker...

Great news for FF teams that held on to Henry, now Young owners  another story
I agree. I think Young's value gets flushed down the toilet now. Henry will be the starter and even if Young is the backup the guy just can't stay healthy. Given how good Hall has looked Young could lose his backup job before the season is out in my opinion.

Sounds like a hammer slammin'
