One down and a ton more to go.
From what I heard today there is still another snowball coming down the hill. UNC has retained Harrington and Smith of Raleigh NC. A very very high profile criminal attorney. Ruh roh shaggy. This gets better with each passing minute.
I assume you mean Tharrington Smith, which handles lots of things other than criminal law according to their website, and is comprised of more than one person, despite your reference to a "high profile criminal attorney." So, not sure why you think that's significant.
Of course, basic reading comprehension and writing skills are probably too much to ask from a graduate of the university that once admitted Chris Washburn.
"Speaking of N.C. State, the revelations that
6-11 freshman Chris Washburn--currently off the team because he stole a stereo from another student in December--
scored 470 on the college boards seems to have gotten to Coach Jim Valvano.Normally Mr. Media, Valvano reacted angrily when a local TV crew showed up in his office the next day. Valvano cursed at the crew, put his hand over the camera, ordered them out of the building and stomped away angrily. The TV station aired the incident.
Chancellor Bruce Poultrie has given Valvano the authority to decide whether Washburn will return to the team. Washburn's interview with a sympathetic Al McGuire on NBC last weekend may have been the first step in justifying his return to the team."
Believe me, I am sure there are plenty of less than academically average student-athletes at Carolina (which is most of the reason for this whole mess Carolina is in), but c'mon.....470?
I have to admit that I am surprised at all of the allegations that have come to light, but with that being said, Carolina should not just suspend, but kick everyone off the team who has had any dealings with agents, had papers written for them, etc. Butch, Blake, and even Baddour (given the obvious lack of "institutional control" and the fact that he hired Butch) should be gone, at the very least.
This just shows that Carolina is not one of the "big boys" in college football (at least, not until after Carolina hires Bill Cowher as head coach...okay, an obvious pipe dream) and the lack of knowing how to deal with such pre-season hype clearly demonstrates that Carolina is currently not ready to step into the upper echelon of college football programs now and likely for many years to come.
I am certainly still a fan (and am always an alum), but sometimes when you mess with the bull (hiring a big-name coach to try to get your program to take that next step) you get the horns.
