University of Idaho college student murders - suspect arrested (1 Viewer)

Meanwhile, China, 1 bullet. Savings of I have no idea... $3M over his lifetime for food, guards, etc, etc.? For someone that admitted to doing it. 2100 on death row x $3M = $6.3 Billion we as taxpayers contribute to this.

I'm not sure what the prosecution is thinking. They appeared to alert the victims' families of this "deal" several days ago, and now the families are talking to the press and granting interviews about how unhappy they are with this deal.

What happens if Kohlberger doesn't plead guilty tomorrow now that it's been widely reported that he is willing to admit guilt? If I'm his attorney, I'd seriously consider delaying his plea. Could he ever get a fair trial under these circumstances? Perhaps #Zow could weigh in but it seems like the prosecutors took a massive and unnecessary risk knowing that they were going to anger the families. Why give them such an extended opportunity to get the press involved and publicly express their outrage when no guilty plea has been taken?

He’s pleading guilty. No appeals there. What a waste.
Waste of what?
4 lives. And then his. And the tax payers get to pay for this POS to have as nice a life as possible in prison.
I can't imagine life in a state version of super max, which for someone as young as Keohberger might mean 60 years, is a nice outcome. I kinda like the idea of him living a long life behind bars. Seems more equitable than snuffing him out and absolving him of the pain he is due.

Defer to Zow as well but I believe the judge can reject the plea. Not sure how that works though.

'We support the plea agreement, 100%'; Victim's family thanks judge, prosecutor in U of Idaho murder case

"We support the plea agreement 100 percent," their statement reads. They asked those who do not support the agreement to respect their belief that this was the right outcome. In exchange for his plea, Kohberger will be spared the death penalty but instead agrees to spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Before speaking about the plea agreement, their statement focused on Madison's life. "We are grateful for the gift of her life and we have grieved the loss of that life for 962 days," they said. "We love you Maddie. And we miss you." The family expressed their thanks to Prosecutor Bill Thompson, Judge Steven Hippler, and Latah County Judge John. They also expressed their gratitude for law enforcement officers and their teams that gathered the evidence that allowed for justice in this case.

The Laramies also thanked the community for their support and expressed their shared grief with other families who have lost a child. "We know recovery is a long and at times an almost unbearable journey. You are not alone, there is hope and healing." The Laramies even took time to extend support to the families and co-workers of two North Idaho firefighters, shot and killed in the line of duty this week. With the plea done and the trial canceled, the Laramies said they're now on a new path, out of the uncertainty of the legal process and onto a path of hope and healing.

"We have closure."
