Unrest in Milwaukee (1 Viewer)

This stuff frustrates me. I've never been to Mil or WI but I do know (or think) Barret has been reelected 4 times and he has a lot of black support. If people are unhappy with policy maybe try someone with a different set of policies.

Sad to say but our public school system was improved post-Katrina. Being in emergency mode broke the grip of the teachers union and an entrenched school board.Literally took an Act of God.
You would think the people of Milwaukee would learn at some point, but it's been over 100 years now and they continue to elect Democrats every single time despite their massive failures year in and year out.  All they are interested in is keeping the status quo and enriching themselves.  We have some of the most corrupt Democrats running the County and MPS.

If there werent bad teachers in these schools, there would just be no teachers.

Eh, if someone shoots somebody, then turns and runs from the police while they still have the weapon, I am perfectly fine with the police shooting them in the back if that's the only way to keep them from getting away. I'd rather remove that person from society completely rather than let such a dangerous person just run off and get away.
This is a defensible point of view, but at least it's debatable.  If the guy had been shot in the front, while presumably brandishing a weapon, then that would have removed any real scope for debate.  Unfortunately, that matters in cases like this where people are not particularly eager to sit back and discuss the merits of the case in calm, dispassionate tones.

The NRA is going to have a field day with the photos many media outlets are reporting and showing...I hate to make assumptions about a person I know nothing about but 1st impressions NOT good. Maybe the media should not put those photos out because the average white person sees that and assumes this thug got what he deserved when in fact he might be the most decent fellow that would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would help.

I though I told you to stop,posting.

This one is BS.
Maybe in Milwaukee but many cities blacks are targeted or follow thru on society stereotypes like when they are pulled over they cannot provide proof of insurance and a DL, even though it would seem to be the responsibility of the person driving the vehicle to obtain the proper papers but these folks would have you believe the system is rigged so these folks cannot get the needed requirements to show the police.

It's a never ending cycle.

Believe the talking points all you want but we know what needs to happen to have a successful MPS and doing what has been done is not the answer. You and other Republicans want an MPS that is successful? Quit giving state funds to charter schools that close midway through the year once they receive the money. Those students only have one place to go and that is into MPS without the funds to go with it. You want charter/private schools? Great. Fund them through private money. You have no clue about this other than what Belling and others tell you to think about it.
Charter schools is a relatively NEW development in MPS.  We weren't giving those funds to charter schools significantly prior to ACT 10 (2012) and MPS was still getting worse year after year.

Funding isn't the issue, as Olaf pointed out above, so the only one believing the talking points, apparently, is you.  The real problem is Democrats and their failed policies since, oh, 1908.  ACT 10 was a step in the right direction but it's going to take years and an entire thought change to clean the rest of the scum out of the system.  And that's only if the people of Milwaukee wake up and stop voting in Democrats.

Jesus H. Christ, the guy tapped to lead the turn around of MPS quit in disgust because of the ingrained dogma of the left.  MPS is literally breaking the law by not cooperating, which may be why funding is being trimmed in the future.  Keep in mind this guy is a Democrat himself and was appointed by the County Exec - also a Democrat.

Is it possible in this case that the police did follow protocol?

Is it now a given that any black criminal that loses their life in the process of a crime OR as a fugitive on the run meaning they would go back for a long jail stint...is it now a given that every time in every city this happens going forward that we are going to experience rioting in that city within a few hours?

I hate to say this but typically what happens is eventually something far worse than the previous set up is enforced on people. 9/11 happened and we all lost a lot of liberties. You think you are making progress when in fact you are making it worse for everyone long term.

Why are people  protesting again?  Guy ran from police and then pulled a gun on them and got shot.   That requires a protest now?

Rock solid killing of a total loser. The world is far better off with trash like this 6 feet under ground.
Sheriff Clarke has viewed the footage and this turdlet was shot in the chest. He set everyone in the media straight already an hour ago before they could fan the flames more. The guy is awesome.

I have worked for Charter schools since I started. In South Florida they tend to open them in the middle of 2-3 rough public schools to try and give those parents a choice or opp for a better way.

I'm blunt with the parents when they come in and meet me. If you don't want to support your child by backing our way of teaching which is very similar to a private school then by all means take your child back to the awful place that had you coming in here to start with.

At our school, the Principal and Teachers are in charge, not the students and not the parents. We simply do not have time for the nonsense and most of them know they are lucky to even have a choice to come to us. And yet I see parents pull their kids out of our school because we do not perpetuate a "Victim" curriculum as I like to call them. We empower our students to resist the urge to feel hopeless, America is still one of the best places to be born in regardless of race, gender, whatever.

Charter schools have a downside though and there is a little bit of something Mario Kart is picking up on but he loses all momentum when he starts attacking the GOP as the scapegoat, shows a complete lack of understanding.

Appears so.  Give criminals free reign at all times?

I could be mistaken but didn't Michael Moore make a movie a couple of years ago based on teacher unions based on Milwaukee Public Schools?

ETA: I was wrong. The movie I was thinking of was "Waiting for Superman" by the same director that made Al Gore's movie "Inconvenient Truth".

I feel bad for Milwaukee. Last night I made the obligatory beer reference and I am ignorant that blacks live there. I thought everyone in WI was mostly white when I saw Paul Ryan's Instagram.

But then I saw some twitter clips of young blacks in Milwaukee saying rich people won't give them any money...something terrible has been taught to the young generation and just judging from my experience the last 3 years, nothing has changed that opinion.

Most schools and teachers I meet teach the kids to be victims, that's terrible IMO.

It's a beautiful evening here. Grilling in the backyard with my kids and some neighbors, choppers circling the hood a couple miles away.

The police officer involved is not only black but now living with relatives in an undisclosed location because of death threats.

Chief Flynn had a press conference today. The officer was wearing a body camera and the victim ran from the police officer, entered a fenced yard, and turned towards the officer with a gun in hand.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article

The Milwaukee police officer who fatally shot an armed suspect Saturday is black, Chief Edward Flynn confirmed Sunday.

"We are concerned for his safety, he has been staying with relatives out of town."

Flynn said that based on his review of the body camera video, the chain of events leading to the shooting of 23-year-old Sylville Smith took 20 to 25 seconds.

"I mean, there was virtually no time between the officer unhooking his seat belt, turning on his body camera, getting out of the car and immediately he was in a foot chase. That foot chase went maybe a few dozen feet before he encountered this individual in a fenced yard," Flynn said.

"The individual was armed. The individual did turn toward the officer with the firearm in his hand. You can't tell when the officer discharges his firearm."

Flynn said he doesn't know how soon the body camera video would be released, but he and Mayor Tom Barrett said transparency was important and they hoped it could be released soon, though the decision would be up to the state Department of Justice. Flynn said the soonest release he knew of was Chicago releasing a body camera video in a week.

Keep your eyes peeled. Once they loot and burn down everything around them, they will have to move out in every direction.

What a toxic environment in this country right now.  With everyone playing the victim card for this many years,  these types of incidents were bound to happen. Now it's just riot or protest over whatever before know anything about what happened.  Really sad

Circling the bowl.

Gov. Walker has activated the WI National Guard per Sheriff Clarke's request. Not deployed but standing by at an undisclosed Milwaukee armory just in case

ETA: As far as I know there is only one armory in Milwaukee and that is on Silver Spring Drive

just checked CNN....apparently when a black officer shoots someone and protests ensue it is not newsworthy.
Word came down from DNC Headquarters to squash the topic immediately.  Black cops shooting criminals doesn't play into the official narrative the DNC is pushing.

Especially when that city is held by a long-time Democratic mayor who has been to the Whitehouse several times as one of Obama's buddies.

Black Criminals Pointing Loaded Handguns at Police Lives Matter

It's time to burn the city!  Enough is enough!
