Update on Domanick Williams #31 (Houston Texans) (1 Viewer)

RB Domanick Williams (formally Domanick Davis)

(on his rehab) “It’s going good. It’s going good. I had all the time I needed, and like I said, most of the guys are checking out, I’m checking in. And I’m going to be waiting on everybody else. I’m going to do everything I have to do to get myself back on the field. And it’s going great right now.”

(on whether he is starting the 2007 season now) “Right now.”

(on whether is 100 percent yet) “I wouldn’t say 100 percent, I mean, but it’s close and it’s on its way. It’s going real good. My knee is allowing me to lift heavy weight without swelling up, and that was one of the biggest problems that I had. It’s just going great.”

(on how hard 2006 was for him) “It’s been real hard. I didn’t watch, not one game. It’s not that I didn’t care because if anybody cares I care. It was just my way of dealing with it because it would hurt me in another kind of way. I just focused on what I had to do to get myself back and then we’ll take care of it when it’s time.”

(on changing his name from Dominick Davis) “And it will be number 31, Dominick Williams. I just had to make a change. I wasn’t really a Davis the whole time, but I have kids of my own and I needed to do what was right.”

(on more on the name change) “I just changed Davis to Williams. I wasn’t really a (Davis). I was my older brother’s Dad’s last name and whatever happened I ended up with Davis. So now that I have kids of my own, a little boy and a little girl, ‘Spike’ (Dominick, Jr.) and Liana, I have to change my name to what it really is, and it’s Williams.”

maybe he changed his name so no one would associate him with "that Davis guy whose career is toast."

So he changed his last name AND the spelling of his first name? :( Or is Dominick a typo? :(

Hmmm... I just cut and paste the entire thing with no comment so I hope it is a typo from the article.

GB DW I hope he has a full and successful recovery.

Moves that the Texans make in free agency and the draft will tell us more about how they feel about his chances to return to his former self. Which was great. He carried that team on his back.

If Ricky Williams changed his first name to Domanick and Houston could acquire him...then, and only then, would Domanick Williams contribute anything to the Texans running game.

So wait...I am going to assume...His mom got married and changed her last name to Davis, and had at least one son with him (the older brother).

At some point later, she had Dom (with a different father), and Dom was born with his Mom's last name of Davis.

So Williams is either his Mom's maiden name, or his biological father's name.

This is the only logical explanation I can wrap my head around.

Nothing said about running and cutting.

why do you assume marriage was involved at all?

Oh God, not another one that ends in "Y". Pahleeese!!!
Stay away from pro hockey players. I used to hang with a bunch of Bruins, and everyone's nickname was just the last name with a 'Y'.Joe Thorton=Thorny. What a bunch of dweebs.
I remember Eric Lindros doing an interview a few years back. "Hexy's been good for us when we needed him. But then again, so has Snowy."

Great, so much for using the "D-Will" nickname exclusively for the Panthers RB.

At least it doesn't end in "Y". Of all the nicknames, the one I hate the most is "Westy".
I hate those "y" nicknames too Johnny.
I see you bolded the "y" in Johnny. At least Johnny is a real name. I sure don't have a problem with that, but names like "Westy" sounds so gay. - Not that there is anything wrong with that - Jerry Seinfeld.

I think "y" is acceptable personally, but it's when "ie" is used that it looks wimpy. Donnie. Johnnie. Ronnie.Signed,

Let me get this straight.

A consensus top RB (Edgerrin James or Jamal Lewis) suffers a serious injury but folks keep the faith and he comes back strong.

A consensus top RB (ie DD) suffers a serious injury but because he changed his name too he is ridiculed and thought to be toast?

I mean this guy was a top 5 RB a couple of seasons ago (1180 yards, 13 TDs and 69 receptions for 596 yards).

There's a difference between tearing an ACL and having no cartilage left in the knee.

As an NFL back, DomDavisNowWilliams was never thought to be more than a mid-level, average starter. He was a top 5-10 FANTASY RB because Houston was a RB friendly system. Don't believe me, find the $$$ he signed for versus what Edge signed for even as an older RB. BTW, Dom Davis has not had a healthy set of knees since mid-season 2005. Unconfirmed reports are that he has bone on bone degenrative knee condition. The last published word had Davis taking an MRI because the knee did not feel right during rehab. I suspect that before the week is out you will see DomWilliams get released or agree to a restructed contract because the Texans have no faith in his health.

From PFW Whispers:

• Asked about RB Domanick Williams’ future at the NFL Scouting Combine, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak did not give a promising report. Said Kubiak: “Domanick’s a fine young man, a heck of a football player. He’s got a knee that’s giving him a lot of problems. Right now, not a lot has changed. He has continued to rehab. He has made progress. It seems like every step forward that he takes, eventually there’s something that stops it. The process is continuing. We sure hopes he makes it back. We want the best for him. But this has been a tough go, and there’s still a lot of questions to be answered.” Domanick Williams, formerly known as Domanick Davis, missed the 2006 season with a left knee injury.
