US Men's National Team (28 Viewers)

Berhalter basically removed Miazga, Djordje, and Vasquez from consideration for the World Cup by not calling them into this warm up camp which seemed a bit weird to me given how iffy those positions are.

We heard all about Brooks, but I didn't know this....“We didn’t see eye to eye on a few things in the past and that has affected me from being called up. But it is what it is,” Miazga said. “I’d like to say few things but I’ll refrain from that. You guys will eventually find out. I’m always ready to play for the national team. But I don’t make the decisions. There’s one guy that makes the decisions and that’s how it goes.”

How are things going for Miazga at Cincinnati? It seems I’ve not heard his name as a possibility for Qatar and had kind of forgotten about him.
I haven't seen him play there so no real opinion but his sofascore in his time in MLS (only 12 matches) was slightly higher than Zimmerman (and his teammate Vasquez) so apparently he got on pretty well. He played as a left-sided center back.

Kai Wagner and Brooks Lennon were the only two defenders with higher average ratings this season in MLS.

I had never seen that quote, thanks for sharing.

Miazga is a bit of a hot head so I would not doubt he clashed with GGG similar to how Hoppe did. Some of this will trickle out once GGG is done after this cycle as Miazga hinted at.

I think there is a chance that the US could finally have some regular games in Seattle...

This quote is from the Seahawks head coach about whether it is time to move to grass

=======================

On Wednesday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the issue is something "we definitely need to look at this really seriously in the offseason again."

"It's been a discussion before," Carroll said. "We've got to do what's right, and we've got to do what's safest for the players, and we've got to make those choices. I would pound on the drum for that."

damn it. Hate to see him miss a Europa start since this is all the minutes he gets

Ramsdale starts as Matt Turner has a tight groin. Club didn’t want to risk a more serious injury

on the brighter side of things, Arsenal drop its only points (a loss) when Turner was missing yesterday.

Arsenal gave up more goals yesterday than they did in the 4 Europa games combined when Turner started.

| Luca De la Torre

The footballer suffers a grade I fibrillar rupture

Not exactly sure the severity but this doesn’t sound good

the word rupture always sounds bad.

I looked this up and it said a grade 1 is the least serious though.

Could be a 2-3 weeks thing. The odd part is the word rupture is not normally associated with a grade 1 so I can't be sure....

He could be the most out of form player that is expected to make the roster. he is getting almost no playing time at all in Spain and this injury seems to make sure he will get none up to the WC. I wonder if his spot could be in jeopardy,....

People are now posting "around 3 weeks"

This is going to be a big decision for GGG. With the way Reyna is trending upwards though, he may have already supplanted LDLT as the first choice back up to one of the 8's.

Given how little time he has played this fall and the fact that the team can't be sure he is actually going to be ready to play come Wales, I am leaning towards the harsh choice (for Luca) that his spot on the roster has to be sacrificed.

We should all keep our eyes open to see if Milhailovic gets added to the MLS camp which may give an indication that GGG is considering dropping Luca.

I'm half expecting GGG to take 23, but he does this continually (and did it during qualifying as well).

The Trusty accolades continues

=======

Birmingham City defender George Friend on Auston Trusty "I think Trusty has been incredible. I don’t think in the whole time I have been in the Championship I have seen anyone better at coming from a league abroad and just taking to the Championship so easily."

hmm, Celta coach says Luca will be fine

"I have spoken with the doctor, it is a small [injury]," Coudet said Friday. "He will surely make it [to the World Cup]. He is a player who has a role with his national team, so there won't be any problem."

The whole back line was vastly improved the second they added him. I think he’s the only piece not easily replaceable back there. The whole playoff run started when they added him and Nwobodo. Team was still prone to letting attackers just get behind everybody, but they had to have dropped their goals against by almost a full goal a game.

(and somewhere off in the distance Kendall Waston is still plodding back on D)

Barring injuries, the roster is pretty set I'd wager

3 GK: Steffan, Turner, Johnson
5 FB: Dest , Robinson, Yedlin, Cannon, ?
4 CB: Zimmerman , Long, Richards, ?
6 Mid: Adams, McKennie, Musah, Acosta, LDT, ?
5 Wing: Pulisic, Reyna, Aaronson, Weah, Arriola
3 Fwd: Jesus, Sargent, Pepi

I don't know who the last FB will be. Berhalter seems to dislike Scally and weirdly called Moore to camp and we know he loves him some right backs. (Slightly) less cynical me thinks it will be Vines.

At CB, I think the odds on favorite is CCV since neither McKenzie nor EPB were given much of a chance. But they may need two of them if Richards can't go. I don't think there is much shot at an outside name like Trusty being given a run at this point

At mid, I've been assuming Tillman but the other viable option is Roldan who was on every single Berhalter roster until injured this summer despite barely ever featuring for the US. He likes him as a leader is my guess. Probably both if LDT is out. The weird thing about excluding Djordje to me is I have no clue who would be next here at this point if someone else can't go. I guess he'd bring Morris and shift Aaronson to mid if needed.

I don't think Richards is a lock. He has not played even a minute since August and finding info on his injury severity has been difficult but I think he has not dressed in quite a while.

seeing some rumors that Jesse may be sacked if the team loses to Liverpool today.
I think the feeling is he would have been sacked after Fulham but wasn't because Liverpool away is the next game and it seemed a bit much to bring a new manager in for that.

That said, after today they only have 2 EPL games left before the break. My guess is they sack him leading into the break (the last game is Tottenham away) if they don't show signs of life. But the negativity towards him is pretty palpable at this point and they may not want another game at Elland Road with him in charge.

quite a shift from Adams and Aaronson. Jesse with the goal celebration of the year :) The very unexpected 3 points at Anfield may get him to Christmas...

Leeds keeper was fantastic. Bamford bottles more scoring chances than any striker I can remember.

Jedi and Trusty were both named MOTM by their teams for the most recent game.

Birmingham appears to have an agenda that is clearly pushing Trusty for a call up. Every interview done by coach or player about Trusty mentions the national team. Yesterday their twitter handle tagged US Soccer when announcing his MOTM award.

normally this is done by a team to increase a players value but Birmingham does not own Trusty so they don't gain anything from him going to the WC, so a lot of this sentiment may be genuine.

They may potentially have a buy option. It would make sense as I doubt Arsenal bought him with the idea he would grow into a first team player given Gabriel, Saliba, White, and Tomiyasu are in the first team now and I think all are around the same age as Trusty. This was just business so no reason not to include an option for a decent return (they bought him for just $2m).

But if BC have a buy option, they don't want to increase his value, they want it to be as low as possible. Having him go to the WC and potentially having a good game would do the exact opposite of that I think as Arsenal could increase the cost to buy him (unless the cost is already baked into the loan but that would be surprising as its not normally done like that).

glad GgG called all those guys into camp.

of all the head scratching decisions during this cycle for GGG, this one ranks right up there.

He spent an entire cycle dealing with near constant, historic level injuries. Why in gods name would he now be worried about getting a players hope up if he did not intend to call him? The players are going to understand how this works and would be happy to go to camp for a rare hope to get called in case of injuries (which GGG should be expecting at this point).

Buy options are just that -- a fixed fee -- otherwise there is no option because you can always negotiate a buy.

So the last Juventus game is Nov. 13, so it seems like Weston is very likely done with any games before the WC. He has 22 days before the Wales game. Weston has always been an incredibly fast healer though, so I have good hopes he will be ready for the Wales game.

I don't know if GGG would be willing but we could go to a more defensive look if Weston is out for Wales
==================

...................................Turner
Dest....................Zimm...............Ream(I know)...............Jedi
........................Musah.............Adams
Aaronson...........................Reyna..........................Pulisic
.............................Sargent

Weah first off the bench if offense is needed

I mean I would not hate this. Sargent would have to run his balls off but he does that any way. I have never liked Adams by himself as the holding midfielder and this would allow him to slide over easier to help Pulisic defensively.

Not a good time to be slumping

Jordan Pefok is definitely in a slump. 8 games now without a goal (including 2 games vs Malmo) but the past 2 have been noticeably unproductive - today vs Gladbach: 59 minutes, 10 touches, 0 shots, 3/6 passing - Thursday vs Braga: 63 mins, 8 touches, 1 shot, 1/3 passing

He's done that at every opportunity this cycle, so I'm not surprised.

Even thoigh I did not agree with his decision for small rosters during qualifying you could make a weak arguement that the players staying with their club teams had some merit.

But these players are in their off season now. They have nothing better they could be doing. Very odd choice by GGG that has zero upside.
