Pulisic recognized the danger far too late. He does not have the defensive instincts required for a role like this IMO

I don't disagree with your comment on this break away goal but it seems to me he has almost no defensive duties today. Other than set pieces, he's almost never tracking back defensively. I like this role for him - extremely wide and attacking. No idea if it would work for us.

And he's off for Azpi in the 75th minute. Potter bringing on defense for offense. Good showing today for CP and I might even dare to point out that the manager might be resting Pulisic while leaving Sterling out there? Pulisic was as good or better than any of the other Chelsea attackers today.

Solid run for Gio today. I think he went 87 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Man City. Obviously he did not dominate this game but played a good game and created a few chances. He took a ton of knocks and was no worse for wear by the end of the long minutes for him (the longest in forever).

He was feeling his oats as his "WTF are you doing????" moments to his team mates out weighed his "good job" moments by about 25 to 1 :)

I wonder if Weston will be having a new coach shortly. Juventus was knocked out of Champions League in the group stage today which is really rare for them.

Didn't watch any of it, but CP has been looking super frosty in his highlights like that assist. Reminds me of his halcyon Covid run a bit, minus the buckets of goals.

Cohen...that's a lot of goals to give up. Even to psg.

Is it too late for Auston Trusty to get a call? How mobile is he?

24, 6'3", exceptional rating at Whoscored, playing for a team similar to a non-elite MLS playoff team.

Specifically listed as a not-good passer though, so maybe more of a Zimm backup than a partner.

When Trusty was playing at Philly, I thought he was going to be a lock for a call up this cycle but his move to Colorado did not go well as his form dipped to the point no one was talking about him any more. I think some of this was related to an injury which saw his appearances dry up.

But his loan move to the Championship honestly could not be going any better. I believe he has played every single league minute this year through 16 games and the reports have been excellent (I have only seen highlights so I can't confirm).

He does not have Miles level speed but he is probably faster than the post injury Long and certainly faster than CCV or Ream.

I don't think he would be a back up to Zimm though as Trusty is a LCB only from what I can tell. I am unsure he has ever played Zimm's RCB role but maybe someone else might know better.

Normally a guy who is peaking right before a WC in a position of need would get a possible look and it would have been interesting to see if his name was on the list of 40. But we know from these past few years that GGG seems very reluctant to give a player a chance blind with out having really been a part of the real team before. I think he was maybe involved in a January camp cupcake but nothing more than that.

This site is jam packed with stats about Trusty if interested in taking a deeper dive

that was great! Thank you for posting. I know by far the least of Iran of almost any team in the WC so I learned a lot here. I skipped the depressing sections of the problems in their country.

This is a great example of why "where you play" does not always translate. If you compare the club teams on Iran to the club teams on the US (Chelsea, Dortmund, Milan, Juventus, Leeds, Arsenal, Fulham, Celtic, Rangers, Valencia etc etc), it looks like the US should be an easy 3-4 goal winner and yet we know this game is likely to be a very close match.

This was a holy **** type of stat for Teremi....

"At Porto, he's amassed an astonishing 100 goal contributions (58 goals, 42 assists) in 110 matches."

sounds like if we have an advantage any where it will be with MMA. Although how GGG manages the team to play against a 4-1-4-1 (which I don't think any team used in Qualification against the US) will be important.

I am not a lawyer but this can't possibly succeed in court can it?

TL/DR:

Dallas punished the player for being late by playing him down an age group.

The player suffered a major ankle injury in the match in which he was forced to play down an age group.

This punishment equates to gross negligence, and FC Dallas should pay $40m for the impact to the player's career.

How was he at any greater risk of injury playing with younger kids?
Maybe if he was forced to play with an older, physically stronger age group you would have an argument.

I hate lawsuits like these but if I'm playing armchair lawyer, I could see arguing that playing a player against inexperienced players could put the player at an unnecessary risk. I think it's hogwash and they are looking to cash in on an unfortunate event, but I could see this argument working if it was something crazy like forcing Messi to play with the PSG U17 team or some other extreme example that would never happen.

I this argument works out then the being asked to play up an age group lawsuit will surely follow at some point.

Yeah, I could see that although that is usually seen as a reward and something a player would want to do. But considering how litigious the world has become you are probably right.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

damn it. Hate to see him miss a Europa start since this is all the minutes he gets

Over recent days, multiple reports from Italy have backed Tottenham to make a move for McKennie when the transfer window reopens.

Calciomercato reported earlier this month that Spurs continue to hold a concrete interest in the USA international and added that Paratici might be set to raid his former club again.

This was followed up a report in Il Bianconero, which revealed that Juventus could decide to cash in on the midfielder in January.

The report explained that the Old Lady may decide to move McKennie on to free space for their top target, Rodrigo De Paul, and added that Tottenham hold a ‘strong’ interest in the 24-year-old.

Jacobs has now taken to social media to reveal that the Juve star will only make a decision on his future after the World Cup.

The journalist stated that Massimiliano Allegri’s men want £20m for McKennie but added that Antonio Conte remains ‘undecided’ on whether to make a move for the player.

Jacobs wrote on Twitter: “Weston McKennie won’t seriously consider his future until after the World Cup. The Premier League is of huge appeal to him and links with Spurs are long-standing. Fabio Paratici spearheaded McKennie’s move to Juventus from Schalke and met with him last January to explore a move.

“Juventus are open to sale for the right price (£20 million+). But Spurs (& Antonio Conte in particular) still undecided whether to move. McKennie’s form has been inconsistent. He does have huge potential and is particularly well-suited in a 3-5-2, which Conte has been using.

“Several Premier League clubs have scouted McKennie, including Newcastle, Leeds, Everton and Arsenal. But none have advanced interest yet. He’s a player who could well move to England in January but right now there is nothing advanced from any potential Premier League suitors.”

This would be exciting.....or a disaster if they drop...

A Jamie Carragher prediction could ring true as Leeds United are reportedly plotting a move for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea parted with just under £58million to sign Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019. He spent the remainder of the 2018-19 season back on loan at Dortmund before linking up with the Chelsea squad that summer.

He has shown glimpses of his talent in the famous blue shirt but hasn’t often done it for a prolonged period.

This season, Pulisic has found the net once in 10 matches. That goal came in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Wolves on October 8.

Pulisic is now on his third Chelsea manager in the form of Graham Potter. The English tactician has shown he is able to get the best out of players from his time at Brighton.

There is the potential for Potter to do this with Pulisic. However, reports are now suggesting the attacker will not stick around in west London long enough for Potter to work his magic.

According to Goal’s live transfer blog (October 27, at 14:45), which cites reports in Spain, Pulisic has become a target for Leeds.

Goal state one of the reasons he could leave Chelsea is that he is sometimes being used as a wing-back by Potter. Pulisic would rather operate further forward to help him get among the goals.

The USA international also wants to ‘reignite his career’, which may only happen if he secures a transfer elsewhere.

Furthermore, there is still time for the centre-back [Trusty] to make a name for himself at this winter’s World Cup with his late surge in form making him a genuine option for United States manager Gregg Berhalter.

“It’s definitely not too late,” Blues manager John Eustace told the press last weekend. “I have spoken to the US manager, I have told him how well he is doing, it’s important that they see that and understand he is playing in one of the toughest leagues in Europe, week in week out against top, top players. He should be on that plane definitely.

"I think they have watched a couple of games on video but I have told them to come and get the scouts out and watch him play. He should come and watch him himself. He is a special talent and he is going to be a top player going forward.”

He has featured twice in USMNT training camps - most recently in January - meaning he is familiar with the setup even if he has not yet managed to get playing time. He was, however, on the bench for a December friendly victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“When his loan was first announced he was very much an unknown quantity,” says Brian ****, Birmingham City writer for the Birmingham Mail. “You didn’t have to look too hard to establish the fact he’d been doing well in MLS but how that would translate to the English Championship was unclear.

“Thirteen games in and it’s safe to say his transition has been seamless. On the pitch it’s already difficult to imagine a Blues defence without him, off it he has spoken about how he has settled into the area and the support he has received from inside and outside the club.”

Trusty has been operating, predominantly, as the left-sided centre-back in a back three. He has played every single minute available, making a strong impression on all-comers to St Andrews.

“He’s played every minute of every game so far, predominantly as the left sided centre back in a defensive three,” says ****. “That has harnessed his athleticism, he doesn’t look like a flyer but he covers the ground very quickly – and his reading of the game.

“He’s strong in the tackle and good in the air in both boxes. He hadn’t had too many chances to score from attacking set-pieces but he looked unstoppable against Bristol City, getting up first and staying up highest and applying good power and accuracy to his attempts on goal. He’s certainly demonstrated all of the physical tools to cope in the Championship and there will come a time when he needs to be tested at the next level up.”
I bet he gets called into camp.

Can't find info on this any where else. Something is off here, they say match like it was an actual game but from what I found he is 2006 birth year U17. If so how would MLS Next or whatever showcase they could have been at allow a U17 by age to play U16 or U15? If it wasn't just a match but an inter club scrimmage I would think you would have a hard time proving that a clubs U16 MLS Next team is such a big step down from their U17 MLS next Team that he plays for.

Every time I think he should just be done with Chelsea, he ends up playing a game and looking like their most dangerous attacker. Of course sofa had him the lowest rated guy since he lost 9 of 12 duels, so what do I know.

I've never understood how they even score those things. I watched the last Chelsea game. I distinctly remember Christian getting the ball, turning and moving upfield past 1 or 2 defenders and then passing it on to another player half a dozen times at least. The official scoring has him at 1 successful dribble. It just doesn't make sense to me. It isn't just Pulisic either. Kovacic routinely takes the ball past multiple defenders in the games and he did again against Salzburg. It show him as having only 1 successful dribble too.

Meanwhile I can only remember one instance of Kai Havertz doing the same(the one where Christian flubbed his shot attempt) and it shows him as having 3. So again, I have no idea how they calculate them.

Pulisic should never be put in the position where he is having to duel players that many times a game IMO. At this point we know he is a bit of a luxury player. It is not that he has low defensive effort, it's just he has almost zero skills/instincts on that side of the ball. He is not even close to the pest Aaronson is even though you would think he should be able to do that with his athleticism.

I bet he gets called into camp.

Do you mean the final roster or is there a camp coming up I am unaware of?? I was unsure there was enough time between the last club games and the start of the WC to have a full camp.

It would be exciting if he got called. I don't like the fact that the coach seems to be begging GGG to come look. I would have hoped that GGG was doing nothing but scouting.

I meant the WC camp. Can they call in more than they're taking?

I am unsure. I was not aware there was any camp coming up for the WC. The only one I was aware of is the current one that the MLS guys are using to stay fit.

I think there is only about a week between when the leagues have their last game and when the WC starts. I had assumed that it would be the final roster of 26 that would have a few days prep together but I may be wrong. Maybe alternates will be called as well.

I was just assuming -- you're probably way more tuned in to the details than I am on that one.

not with this. US Soccer is being remarkably quiet about the whole process. I am just guessing.

Berhalter basically removed Miazga, Djordje, and Vasquez from consideration for the World Cup by not calling them into this warm up camp which seemed a bit weird to me given how iffy those positions are.

We heard all about Brooks, but I didn't know this....“We didn’t see eye to eye on a few things in the past and that has affected me from being called up. But it is what it is,” Miazga said. “I’d like to say few things but I’ll refrain from that. You guys will eventually find out. I’m always ready to play for the national team. But I don’t make the decisions. There’s one guy that makes the decisions and that’s how it goes.”

How are things going for Miazga at Cincinnati? It seems I’ve not heard his name as a possibility for Qatar and had kind of forgotten about him.
