US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

Pretty disastrous U17 game. We rotated heavily but two of the three centerbacks we brought are now suspended for the knockouts. Banks - our best CB by far - got a yellow and is suspended. Hall - our captain - came on as a sub and got a red in stoppage. The only remaining CB is Hawkins who has been pretty rough.

And of course, we lost 0-3 to France and now will play tournament favorite Germany in the first knockout round.
I only watched the first half. The US played pretty well in the first half, very even game.

The suspensions are.......oooomph

but to be fair, even with out the suspensions, the US has not looked great all tournament, outside of a small portion of the Burkino Faso match, even in the two previous wins.

what I saw of the Burkina Faso game... the US should consider it a job well done to get out of the group. They were not the better side- even if they flashed moments of quality.

No question about being lucky to get out of group. South Korea out played them for a long portion of the first game.

Luca I guess in place of Weston?

This generation of players is going to drive me nuts with injuries. I have been following this team since the 80's and no group of players of similar age have been more cursed. We always had injuries of course, but the amount seems so much higher now.

Not that we should need them but most teams won't function well when arguably their top 4 players are missing (Adams, Weah, Pulisic and Weston)

With GGG being willing to put Pepi and Balogun on the field together I wonder if he will take the next logical step and go with a 3-5-2.

With out traditional wingers we seem confident in, a 3-5-2 solves a bunch of issues for us.

......................Turner
...........Miles.....Ream.....CCV
...............Luca.......Musah
Dest:.........................................Jedi
.........................Gio
................Pepi.........Balogun

Here is the goal. Nice cross, nice header but I think gker should have done better

I watched that goal live after Pre posted the link.

The build up was the best part for me... Nice entry pass by 11, and good movement by the guy receiving that pass plus solid cross.

I agree the GK should've done better. Benja did well to head down, but it wasnt thumping or savagely placed.

Summary of where things are in the quarter finals

CR - Panama: Panama won the first leg 3-0 in Costa Rica (think of the US record in CR when considering this result). Panama should be a HUGE favorite to advance

US - T&T: It wasn't pretty but the US got out with a 3-0 victory at home. One US away goal tomorrow and it is done and dusted (T&T would need 5 goals to advance). Until the US scores, there might be a nervy moment or 2.

Canada - Jamaica: Solid 2-1 win for Canada away from home. It should give them a VERY VERY good chance to advance. Canada can even lose 1-0 and still advance due to away goals.

Mexico - Honduras: This is the closest one to call right now. Honduras won 2-0 at home which puts all the pressure on Mexico but it feels like this is something they can over come, even if it is just to get the score level after 90. Obviously 1 away goal by Honduras makes the task SIGNIFICANTLY harder for Mexico.

anybody watch the rest of that u23? ended 1-1.. curious how the game went.
I watched it in the background. Honestly it was not a great angle and it was hardly our best players - even accounting for U23. We're clearly giving guys a run out to see if anything clicks.

Several guys likely to be on the roster are taking season ending breaks (Luna, Gutierrez, Wiley), are hurt or declined to heal (Neal, Pukstas), are still in the MLS playoffs (McGuire, Vargas, RBW, Schulte, Morris), or are with the Senior team (Slonina, Paredes, Paxten).

It's an 18 man roster and I just named 13 and almost certainly am forgetting people. With the over age players, it seems likely that no more than 4-5 guys in this camp will even make the roster and even the guys that likely will, several didn't start yesterday. Pretty forgettable game.

Conmebol made an announcement about the Copa America opener and final next summer

The final match will be played on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Hard Rock Stadium, located in Miami Gardens, Florida.

It was not in the announcement but I am assuming Atlanta will be laying down grass. It should be a good test for WC 2026

USMNT lineup: Turner, Dest, Carter-Vickers, Ream, A Robinson, Musah, Reyna, de la Torre, Aaronson, Pepi, Balogun.
I am not even going to pretend I have a clue as to how this lines up (seems like a skinny 4-2-2-2 again??).

I assume it is what ever formation they used when Pepi and Aaronson subbed in during the first leg.

Looks like a diamond to me. Musah probably at the 6. Gio at the 10. Both fullbacks getting forward so Luca and Brendan would probably be Mezellas.

Funny... I ran what I called a 4-box-2 with my Varsity high school boys 2 years ago because I didn't have any true wings. Granted, in high school you have to be string up the spine because there aren't many players that can finish a cross anyway.

Most of our high school were so narrow you had to play this way anyway.

This is probably (definitely) hyperbole but damn - you almost say none of the players would want him around after that display - about as bad as you can get.
