US Men's National Team (16 Viewers)

in case people missed it, Freddy was interviewed specifically about Gio. His perspective was interesting. I posted it earlier today.
It was. Never considered how being frustrated can manifest and show and turn the coaches off. Has to be hard to do and takes a conscience effort to not let it show. Something like that could actually explain some of Gio's issues at Dortmund. None of us really know, but this is something that we wouldn't see or know.
I love how putting on a happy face would've solved all of Freddy's issues.
You are right, it was only one of a laundry list of items for sure.

One thing Freddy was right about though, when ever he did play for the US, he did play fairly well. At least well enough that thinking about him having to play in the 3rd division in Finland just to get a game, in his prime, was unimaginable.
And tbh, freddys highs at club or usmnt never matched or even came close to Gios. For me me, freddys high will always be that youth WC and specifically how he singlehandedly destroyed Brazil. The most dominant display by a US player at any level I've ever seen.

Oh for sure I am not saying the pouting is the answer, but like NR said, it was one of many. But it is also a factor we don't often see because we aren't seeing training or coaches interactions. Talking Gio not Freddy.

Pardon the rough translation. This would be a wonderful next step for Miller

A lot of names have been popping up in Northern Netherlands lately, around various clubs. Remarkable. It’s not always accurate, sometimes it is. Regarding left-back Nkounkou from Eintracht and PSV: according to German sources, it’s indeed not a straightforward story. And Peyton Miller has been on the radar for a while now.

Gio had bad body language in the good times. I can only imagine the depths of his despair as he watches his career slowly ebb away.
resting pouty face for sure.

Yikes...turned on the Southampton game just in time to see Downs miss a goal that I would have scored easily
To quote the broadcaster, who is still talking about it a minute or two later "just got his feet into a bit of a muddle. Maybe took his eye off the ball"

I think that's being generous

Update on Freeman from Bogert

"Villarreal leads the race for personal terms, Freeman wants to go to Villarreal. He has 18 months left on his contract and is not interested in signing a new deal. The club have a u-22 initiative contract extension on the table, that offer is valid. They still hope they’re gonna be able to sway him to extend that. Doesn’t look likely because I have a feeling Freeman and his camp know what the ballpark might be if he gets to sign for a free in 18 months at Villarreal. That’s a team that he sees his development going well. But he wants to stay in Orlando at least for the next year. The most ideal outcome is Villarreal agrees a deal now and he’s loaned to Orlando or the deal doesn’t go into effect until the summer of 2026. The longer this goes, the more likely it is he runs out his contract and leaves for free."

Maybe I'm Johnnying him, but no way he seems ready for La Liga to me, technically or tactically. But I'm excited for him to step it up somewhere...just want him to get regular PT. Cant imagine that at Villareal.

I agree with you. But it seems clear now that many club scouts see things differently than we do here in the thread. Maybe it is as simple as we over focus on games against Concacaf opponents and the scouts maybe could care less about those type of games..

Not sure how much I buy it but there’s a rumor going around that Rangers is interested in Gio.

I think I would rather have him on a good MLS team instead of in the SPL, but I’m not sure the rumor has any weight to it.

Roma has expressed interest in Swag...but 25m euro juve asking price too rich. Swags contract ends next summer, so juve might be inclined to move him while they can.

Jackson “Papo” Gordon (‘11) is joining Valencia CF. The Ft. Lauderdale native is a highly rated #10 in a KDB/Zizou mold (stylistically, to be clear)

Family moved to Spain. Many, many top clubs were after him.Haven’t seen him play, but hear big things about his potential.
Any US callups?
yes, he was at a U14 camp I think last year. He was playing up an age group.

They're certainly right that the old guys never really won anything of substance.

But it's apples and oranges in terms of the resources they had and the state of the US game at the time.

The part that rings true the most for me is they are doing it mostly for clicks. If you notice, very few from the old timers bash the current players unless they are trying to push a podcast and/or social media.

You rarely if ever hear a strong criticism from DMB, McBride, Cobi, Jozy, Stewart, Bradley, Cherundolo, Hejduk, Bocanegra, Balboa, Pope etc etc.

The "do it for clicks" crowd follows the tried and true formula to have as strong a take in only one direction as possible to create the most engagements possible. They are probably thrilled that Pulisic and Weah went on record with their thoughts as it will just feed what they are looking for.

This is Lala's way for sure. And Donovan seems to be following suit. Although I feel like LD is doing it more to try and stay relevant. But that's just me.
And now that Howard is catering to LD, he seems to be joining that group.

Wynalda has always been a blowhard and seemingly at odds with US Soccer or the NT. His side just seems to be whichever is the opposite of USC or USMNT. I listen to him sometimes on the SiriusXM soccer channel and he's ok usually. Nowhere near as bad as Lalas.

I think its fair for these guys who came from essentially college/amateur backgrounds to question why the current crop of academy (mls and europe) trained multimillionaires who feature for big clubs havent done more with the US than they did. As pundits, they SHOULD be asking these questions.

Lalas and Wyno are basically jagoffs, so no surprise how they ask or posit are in a jagoff manner.

Here is my unpopular opinion. I think this is all a good thing. I read Weah's comments and loved them. And I loved Adams standing up for CP. Because it tells me that the players are there for each other. I didn't agree with LD, but I never questioned his right to criticize. Or Lalas's right. But I also think it's fair for the players to point out that Lalas in particular has now spent the better part of two decades picking at any scab related to USSoccer for money. He actively tries to exploit potential flash points within the team while claiming to want the team to come together. So if what it takes for the team to come together is to think that Alexi Lalas is a giant, ginger douche, that's a good thing.

I care about whether there is a rift between CP and Pochettino. I think that could be very bad news. I don't care if Pulisic wants to murder Lalas and Donovan with a flame thrower. Petty is good.

Balogun will likely miss the league opener this week end due to a “very minor calf injury”. Coach expects him to be ready for the next game.

Peter Bosz says Ricardo Pepi will not be available vs FC Twente: "We have to be careful with him, so that also means he's not there against Twente. He no longer has pain and no movement restrictions, but a trace of fluid in the knee. That must first be out if it is fully released. The knee is otherwise good, they all told me that and so we will have to be patient. In the event of an injury, that is quite normal."

Here is an annoying stat for people to consider.

The US U15 team lost 5-0 to Mexico's U15 team.

All 5 goals were scored by American born players and 4 of the 5 players who scored are in MLS Academies.

What's he standing in line for?

Rough day.

Adams goes 90 in a 4-2 loss
Weah goes 45 in a 1-0 loss, to a goal in the 91st minute against a team playing with ten men since the 31st minute
Tillman does not dress again for Leverkusen

Arminia Bielefeld, just promoted to Bundie 2, beat Weder Bremen today in the German Cup.

27 year old Yank Isaiah Young, who has spent most of his career in the 3rd and 4th divisions of Germany, came off the bench to score the winner for Bielefeld.

Bielefeld's captain is also American, Mael Corboz.

If Sargent stays at Norwich for the full season, I think there is a chance he breaks the record for the most goals scored by an American for a single Euro team. I think (not sure but think), the record holder is Dempsey at Fulham with 60.

Sargent has 51 at Norwich

McKenzie is starting for Toulouse coming up. He has worn the Captain’s armband at times in the preseason but I don’t know about today.
he went the full 90 in a 1-0 road win to start the season.

He played on the left side of a 3 man back line.

McKenzie, along with Johnny and Tillman were the 3 players we really needed to see their club form show up for the US, against at the very least Concacaf teams. Only Tillman so far has made an impression.

This is not good.

Juventus used 20 players today in the friendly and Weston did not get into the game until the 91st minute...

Looks like Weston got himself back in the dog house yet again, this time for refusing to sign a new contract. Reports are that Juve want to move him before they lose him for nothing.

Deja vu all over again
