Former FIFA vice president Jack Warner won a decade-long court battle on Tuesday against being extradited to the U.S. to face corruption charges in a bribery scandal involving football's world governing body.

Trinidad and Tobago's high court permanently stayed extradition proceedings against Warner, 82, who faces racketeering and bribery charges in the United States.

Warner was one of 14 people named in a 47-count indictment by U.S. authorities in May 2015. He had been fighting extradition since.

His fight went as far as the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London, which serves as Trinidad and Tobago's highest court. In November 2022, the London court dismissed Warner's appeal against extradition, effectively clearing the way for him to be sent to the U.S.

However, on Sept. 12, Warner's defense attorneys argued there was no formal extradition agreement between Trinidad and Tobago and the U.S. The attorneys said such an agreement was required for Warner's extradition.

An attorney for the state, who recently took over the case, did not oppose the argument.

On Tuesday, Justice Karen Reid ruled that the extradition proceedings were flawed, due to the absence of an official extradition agreement.

Following the ruling, Warner told The Associated Press that he felt vindicated and that justice had been served.

"I could never get back the lost reputation, which has happened to me," Warner said. "My life can now begin afresh, but it's 10 years too late."

Warner has faced numerous corruption allegations stemming from his time in FIFA. In 2020, a U.S. Department of Justice indictment accused Warner of receiving $5 million in bribery payments to vote for Russia to host the 2018 World Cup, a bid it won.

Warner was forced out of FIFA in 2011 over a bribery scandal, but he has denied any wrongdoing. He also previously served as a government minister and member of Parliament in Trinidad and Tobago.

Mönchengladbach - Before the match against Eintracht Frankfurt, coach Eugen Polanski is running out of attacking options: In addition to Franck Honorat, Shuto Machino and Gio Reyna were also missing on Wednesday. Gio Reyna sat out team training today due to thigh problems

Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca on Tanner Tessmann:

"His characteristics correspond to our game. Since I arrived, he started playing and he did it very well. This year, he has confirmed and progressed a lot. It's not just because he scores, he does very important things for our game and has progressed defensively. He is an important player for us."

This is becoming an issue (in a good way). He is playing his balls off right now. Might be the 2nd or 3rd best US player currently playing in Europe right now (behind Pulisic and Richards).

And there is talk that he may not even get an invite to the Oct games (which seems crazy considering that Johnny will almost certainly be out).

There is nothing better than being given a rest in a mid week game and still coming off the bench to score the game winner.

expected starting keeper Diego Kochen has been recalled to the main Barcelona team to serve as the back up for Szczesny and will miss the U20 World Cup.

The US is expected to call up a keeper to replace Diego.

Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac was asked if #USYNT’s Mathis Albert is nearing a move to the first team:

“Everything has to go step by step and we must not rush into things. The development has to be there, it is there, but it has to be there constantly and then the future will show that. If they [Albert & Samuele Inacio] continue like they are, things will be rosy.”

waiting for lineups, but it could be Swag vs Musah
Both start on the bench.

Dammit
Both subbed in.

Swag was poor- touch especially. And missed a clearcut opportunity late.

Musah actually looked good- quick, strong and lively, but got most of his 20 mins a man down and having to work hard covering ground and not much else. Juve subbed in a #11 who was causing atalanta all kinds of fits off the dribble...Musah shut him down.

Zendejas, Tessman, Morris -- this is what we have to hope for now. Where we have so many players all over the world that some of them just kind of blossom over time to fill in the gaps. We're nowhere deep enough to have XI guys who were locked in future starters at 18, but if we can find a couple of these kind of guys every year or two it's gonna help a lot.

Zendejas has scored a couple goals lately that translate to just about any level of competition. That one last night is just super.

Mathis Albert now has 9 goals and 6 assists in his first 9 games at the U19 level and this was after missing the entire preseason

Sad to see him pulled after the red, but makes sense
But this is the hidden gem behind the season. He has this fantastic amount of production in a relatively small amount of minutes. He is only averaging 49 minutes a game across all comps. He has 6 goals and 2 assists in just 345 minutes, with no PK's. His center forward has by far the highest amount of missed Big Opportunities in Serie A and some of those almost certainly would have been assists for Pulisic.

I am sure it has already been said but I think we are at the point where he has surpassed Lockdown Pulisic.

France won with an 80th min goal, 2-1.

70-30 possession, but SA put a good percentage of their lesser shots on goal.

I cheaped out on Fubo, and have used all my email addresses for free trials there. So im listneing to a live reaction from two dudes on youtube instead.

3-0 25 mins in, and theyre complaining that it should be a lot more.

Eta...make that 4-0
