Curacao has looked good.  I'd say they're better than T&T and Guyana for sure.  Maybe even Panama.  I think we played pretty poorly, but they deserve a lot of credit too.  They did a great job of breaking our ####ty press all game.

I'm thinking we'll see them again in the next 3 years.  I feel like they're a team on the rise.  A game like this will give them a ton of confidence going forward and their team is pretty young.  I could see a good number of their guys moving up a league after a showing like this.

They are the reigning Caribbean Cup holders (2017).  Before you laugh about that,  note that 2 of the final 4 teams in this competition are Caribbean.  That might say more about the state of CONCACAF than it does about Caribbean football, but stil ...

Curaçao is a liqueur made with the dried peels of the Laraha citrus fruit, grown only on the island of Curaçao.

History

Curaçao liqueur is traditionally made with the dried peels of the "Laraha". Laraha is a bitter orange native to Curaçao with the Latin name Citrus Aurantium Currassuviensis, meaning "Golden Orange of Curaçao" .[1] Shortly after the discovery of the island of Curaçao in 1499, the Spaniards planned for, among other activities, an agricultural development of Curaçao. One of the plants they carried with care on their long sea voyages from Spain was the so-called “Valencia” orange. Historical records show that someone named Pérez Maestre brought the first seeds from Hispaniola in 1527. When the Dutch arrived they found small groves in some areas of the island. The sizzling sun and arid climate were too much for the colorful sweet oranges though, and this once juicy fruit then turned into a kind of bitter, almost inedible product. The project was forgotten and the "misfits" of the once proud "Valencia" oranges grew wild and abandoned. Decades later, planters discovered that the peels of this orange, thoroughly dried by the sun, contained etheric oils with an extraordinary pleasing fragrance. In order to not let crops go to waste they started developing their own recipe to share with friends and family.

The Curaçao Liqueur Distillery at Landhuis Chobolobo in Curaçao

Senior & Co, a company established in Curaçao, is the only company in the world that has always produced its Curaçao liqueur using the dried peels of the Laraha orange. The Jewish families, Senior and Chumaceiro, started selling their liqueur in 1896 in their pharmacy "Botika Excelsior" in small quantities. In 1947, Senior & Co bought "Landhuis" (Dutch for Country Mansion) Chobolobo in Willemstad, Curaçao, where the distillery has since then been housed. As Senior & Co is the only company that uses the Laraha orange from Curaçao, it states the word "Genuine" on its Curaçao Liqueur labels.[2][3]

Distillation Process

To create the liqueur the Laraha peel is dried, bringing out the sweetly fragrant oils. After soaking in a still with alcohol and water for several days, the peel is removed and other spices are added. The company Senior & Co uses a 120-year-old copper kettle for the distilling process. They put the peels in a gunny bag, spices are added and then hung in a heated copper still with 96% pure and kosher alcohol (derived from sugar cane) for 3 days. After 1 day cooling, water is added and distillation takes place for another 3 days.[4] The liqueur has an orange-like flavor with varying degrees of bitterness. It is naturally colorless but is often given artificial coloring, most commonly blue or orange, which confers an exotic appearance to cocktails and other mixed drinks.[5] The blue color is achieved by adding a food colorant, most often E133 Brilliant Blue.[6]

Some other liqueurs are also sold as Curaçaos with different flavors added, such as tamarind, coffee, chocolate, and rum raisin.

US is 6-1-1 at home vs Jamaica in last 20+ years and we've given up zero goals in four games.

The team isn't firing on all cylinders, but we're still solid favorites playing at home.

We were at the game last night. A couple take aways:

• The first half we looked pretty decent, CP was engaged and in a class by himself. Easily could have been 3-0. The goal happened right in front of us and the move to get space and hit that cross was damn pretty in real time.
  
• My wife, whose soccer knowledge is minimal asked like 5 times why is the bald guy out there, he looks slow and old. 
  
• CP seemed to get frustrated in the second half when Bradley and few others seemingly missed the run or play he was trying to make after passing to them. We need Adams badly.
  
• Curacao played much better then Jamaica/Panama did, that game was really sloppy and Panama outplayed Jamaica for most of it.
  
• Multiple fights in the stands after the first game between the Panamanians and Jamaicans including one literally on top of us, had to grab my 12 year old and put him behind as two guys landed on his seat wrestling and throwing hay makers.

That game you are referring to was not really these full set of players.

Pulisic, Long, Zimmerman, Jozy, Boyd, Bradley, Weston, and Zardes did not play in that game.

This has been our worry for a while.  And most of it is not specifically today per say, but when you project out two years, those legs aren't getting any younger...

After watching all 4 quarter finals, it feels like the other side of the bracket had 4 teams that were all better than any team on the US side outside of the US.  Even though the team is clearly not playing well, they really seem to have lucked out on the draw.

The tournament is constructed by Concacaf to assure Mexico and US can't meet before the finals, but usually the sides of the bracket are better balanced.  Haiti's performance has thrown things out of whack a bit.

The rest won't be convinced either way.  

The level of the teams is not helping here.  Had these games been replaced by say a strong Honduras and CR teams, people would feel differently I think.

When watching the second half last night, I got the same sense of dread I had when watching the US get outplayed by Haiti in the group stage in 2015, which history now tells us was a harbinger.  Let's hope it goes different this time.

It is worth mentioning that Mexico has not looked great a couple of games as well.

If the Mexico that played CR shows up, they will run the US ragged.  If the Mexico that played Martinique shows up, the US could win.

I noticed this as well.  Weston bossed most of that first half.

what lineup changes would you like to see outside of Jozy for Zardes?  Leon Baily going up against Ream scares me.

Andy mentioned it... this group of players hasn't played Jamaica, so we'll see Tuesday.

Yes. That Mex v CR game was at a level and pace way beyond anything this group has shown. If they have to hold on for dear life to get a result against that Curacao team- who mad it look really easy to open them up...either of those CR or Mex teams would dismantle them.

Winning would he great. But those that have been in the long haul understand that the whole thing is a process and wanting/hoping to see improvement- relative to our competitors, but also just within the team.

When I see the A team (yes, missing guys- but they'll always be missing guys) play poorly across the board against powerhouses like Guyana and curacao, it doesn't make me feel like they're on track to compete teams that are better in qualifying or the WC. I guess I also don't care much about the gold cup, which I see mainly as useful regional practice for wcq.

Did it seem like he was sitting back tactically? If so, he wasn't helping Bradley any. Curacao was far too easily able to punch to right through the gut of the MF- and Bradley was all alone and exposed repeatedly.

I felt like he just took the foot off the gas, physically and mentally. And then really sloppy when he was involved- killed most of what came through him with poor decisions, poor dribbling or poor passes. I'm talking second half.
