I'm a little disappointed because it's always fun to watch how salty Ale got when these transfers fell through. But seems like a good situation for him.

yes, that happens all the time in Olympic soccer because they need the extra time to fit the schedule in before the games end.
I believe other sports like gymnastics also kick off before the opening ceremonies

Maybe I'm interpreting wrong but are you concerned we won't get 3 points? I'm more worried about the Trinidad match, even though we're home, that StV away. They are 0-4 with a -16 GD. I think you're right that it could be a very ugly match but I'd be down right shocked if the outcome is anything other than 3 points.
Guat @ Trinidad will be very interesting. Best case is obviously we take care of business and Trinidad wins at home. That happens and Trinidad has 13 pts, US has 10 and Guat is still at 6 making our last match against Trinidad moot.

Concerned might be overstating it but history tells us we might have some issues.
The US is CLEARLY the better side but when you play on these god awful fields (assuming it is as bad as the picture looked) that levels things a bit.
I don't find this game too much different than the 2014 qualifier in Antigua where we barely escaped with the 3 points via a 90th minute goal by EJ.
I would love this to be a cake walk but history tells me that we tend to struggle at these type of games with even a significant quality advantage.
A 3-0 halftime lead would be wonderful for once so we don't need to sweat.

Charlie finally returned last week from cancer. The Philly fans are going to love him if they keep their expectations in check.
Quick Spurs update - mixed bag: Spurs play final friendly against Inter in Oslo tomorrow - CCV is traveling with the team, Yedlin is not traveling.
I have not heard anything else on a loan/sale for Yedlin (or any kind of a knock).
ETA - Yedlin would be unlikely to play, even if he travelled - this is the first/only friendly with the Euro players, so I expect Walker to get most of the minutes at RB, and Rose/Davie have LB covered. Still, not traveling is probably a sign he will be off somewhere in the next few weeks, unless he picked up a knock in training in the last day or so.

Karl-Hienze Rumminege announced that Bayern is likely done with transfers this summer after the Kingsly Coman deal.
If this is true, it raises an interesting possibility.
Wiki is listing 23 players right now on the top roster for Bayern (which includes Coman) and Green is still one of the 23.
Does anyone know what the roster rules (number of players etc) are for the Bundesliga?

From what I can tell, Miazga has not played even a minute for Chelsea this preseason(I might have missed something small). While I never expected him to be on the first team, I did expect some minutes while they were in America to also help out his loan.

It seems pretty clear that he has Gotze's spot now. Lewa will take most of the striker minutes. Muller will probably play there at times, but Green appears to be the dedicated "backup striker." So some cup games, maybe some of the less important CL group matches, and possibly 4 or 5 starts in the BL. And then some sub appearances. If there's a big injury to Lewa or Muller, Bayern will move in January.

Union traded their first round picks the next two drafts for Bedoya and Davies.
Earnie appears to be making a big bet on their academy churning out first teamers. Hopefully that benefits the Nats down the road too

I wish MLS would release the allocation money amounts that exchange hands. It is impossible to make any real judgement on these deals with out knowing the cash amounts which directly affect the cap space.
From what I read, Philly flipped their first round for the Revs 3rd round pick. The draft is becoming less and less important as the years go on so I don't see too much of an issue of Philly shedding those assets.

ok- so the pace of the game was definitely slow, with players from both sides not making the extra run. given that, here's what I saw...
Green was pushed up high on the last defender and seemed to be given the direction to stay there. I didn't see him making big runs diagonally into the corners or even wide... just constantly moving around in the middle of the field- chicharito style- to find that bit of space in and around or behind the two center backs. considering he was matched up against Ramos and I think Varane?... he actually did a decent- not great- job getting the ball in those spaces.
yeah, there were a number of times Ramos read the pass before him, but he didn't look out of place... even if he didn't exactly put much fear into the defense with the ball at his feet. I thought he did better finding the space when the ball was wide on the end-line and pushed in low, had a few opportunities there including one or two times forcing the GK into saves (one time, I thought Green should have done better with his shot).
It did seem like there were too many times Ramos or Varane either anticipated better or just beat him to and off the ball, which seemed to me more like this wasn't Green's optimum. also a lot of minutes passed without his involvement at all... just floating around between the two CBs but not making the run further afield (maybe by instruction?) to free himself up.
he also had a few runs that were lazily off-sides... but I guess that's true of all the guys that play that spot.
all in all, he looked like a guy who belonged at that level- had a couple of opportunities, which had he finished would have put him in clear-cut make the team territory IMO. didn't see him create much on his own (something I've seen him do for the US at times), but found the opportunities. hopefully RHE's assessment is right, and he makes the roster with opportunities for minutes.
...pretty sure Philly fans don't even know what the WC is...

I am still having a hard time comprehending this, mostly due to my poor perceptions.
I tend to perceive that on giant teams like Bayern, that the back up players on the first team roster are good enough to start on 95% of the teams in the world. I look at Green as someone who would struggle to find starts in MLS, much less in any top 15 type league.

he didn't strike me as a difference maker last night... something you'd hope for from your lone striker, and as you say expect from anybody on a BM, RM, etc first team (through the top 23). but again, he more than displayed the minimals required to play in a top level, IMO; I think he'd do well in a lesser league- he has a nice nose for space in front of goal, and pretty decent touch/vision.

I don't think it's all that unheard of. He's in essentially the same position as Bertrand Traore or Kelechi Iheanacho. Or Chupa Akpom, I guess. Seems like more and more teams are stocking up on chance creators, but not stocking depth in strikers. I didn't love how Green played last night, but he is infinitely better as a striker than as a wing. Ancelloti is dead right about that. For a team like Bayern that wants to create chances, his skill set isn't a bad fit. He has a knack for a quick run to get frontside of the CB (not surprising that Sergio Ramos wasn't having that last night).

interesting take.
I looked at him as a guy better suited for the flank or to play in a bit of space, but you're right in that he does a decent job finding that seam in front of goal to receive the ball from the other more talented players who can get him the ball from different positions. and tangentially... he'll never get around the guys on the books at BM who play out wide, so that position probalby is his best option for BM.

Gotze had 1200 total minutes in all comps (and 957 in the BL with 11 starts). So I think that 1000 for Julian seems high. I would expect to see more of Muller at ST. My guess is that this is an analytics driven decision. They got 6 goals out of Gotze in 1200 minutes. If they determine that they only need 700 - 800 minutes out of that spot, at a true fraction of the cost, while they keep developing a revolving door of young players to fill that spot until one sticks, they can concentrate their resources elsewhere.
Nobody is saying that four preseason goals makes Green an elite young prospect. But he might be a squad player considering there's no value in sending him on loan in the last year of his contract.

Timothy Weah is one of the first of this type.The more washed up EPL/LaLiga/Bundes players we get over here the better, especially those in their 30's. My thinking is that they will hopefully start producing babies here on American soil and in 18 years we will have Pirlo jr. lining up with Lampard jr. at midfield
CRo also has an American baby if memory serves.
