US Men's National Team (6 Viewers)

I was just looking at Brad Friedels roster for an upcoming tournament for his U19 squad and I think he picked 6 players (out of 22) from FC Dallas's academy system.
That club absorbed a nice chuck of the ODP Region 3 talent that won the national tournament and had a great showing in Italy.  That team compromised of 16 year olds was technically better that most college teams I've seen.  I'm not going to say they would beaten most college teams as the long ball is very effective when you are physically bigger and faster.

Of course the flip side is that the next year the NC team won the Regional tournament and defeated one Texas while tying the other in doing so.  Only one NC kid was selected for holdover camp while 12 or so were selected from Texas.  The Regional team coach was from Texas.

nice to see the regional thing is still the same. my college coach was the u19 eastern regional coach and we had a bunch of guys from that team, most of whom were from NY (his home state)... as a western regional guy, I wasn't so impressed with a bunch of them. the NJ kids, otoh.

If you can beat them by beating them, join them.

US coaches talk a great game but I have my doubts as to how good they are at evaluating talent.  I can't totally blame them because our system is broken.  We so desparately need one system that everyone plays in.

So in Jason Kries's first game he made an interesting change.  Orlando beat Stoke on Thursday 2-1 and he clearly decided the "Shea at LB" experiment was over, returning him to his normal attacking role that he had when he was younger.

This is one of those strange moves that will likely help Shea at club level but hurt his chances at the international level since the competition at the wide attacking spots is so much higher than at LB, where my grand mother might get capped soon.

Shea seems happy about the change:

“He let me know he wants me to play there and I am really excited about that,” he insisted. “Hopefully we can get back to how I used to be and play like that."

I actually think this will help him get called up. JK: "this Shea fella is a decent midfielder. Let's try him at LB"

so true :)

Although unlike Benny, Sacha, and MVLee to name just 3, Shea got a TON of chances under JK.

In fact I would go as far to say that Shea got a longer rope than anyone besides Zardes under JK so it does make me wonder if JK has seen enough.......

And Shea also causes that Yedlin/Zardes/Shea triangle of lack of technique where having 3 out of 10 players who think their shin is a tool is detrimental to the over all play.  We need to limit this to 2 out of 10 when ever possible imo.

I wonder if other countries fans sit around talking about how they can limit the amount of cement footed players they have on the field?  I feel like this is such a limited issue to just a few countries.  That is not to say that a ton of other countries have many many issues, just not this specific one.

@CletiusMaximusCan you give any update on Miazga?  I see he is on the roster, is he getting any minutes in the friendlies for Chelsea?

In past your past experience, when could we expect an announcement for a loan if one is to come?

What's the history with Green?  I don't sense much excitement from people on this guy even though he just scored a hat trick for one of the top 3 teams in the world.  (Yes I know preseason)

I don't think he's played much if at all so far. I am a preseason snob though, and really don't watch much or pay that much attention. There is plenty of time for loans to be made and Chelsea has at least a dozen players, maybe twice that, for whom they need to find good loan destinations. The only slight chance he'll stick around, which most likely would not be good for him, is if they can't find a good CB to buy in the next few weeks. Zouma is still hurt. Terry and Cahill are not good enough, Kalas and Christensen both loaned out already. If he doesn't go to Vitesse, I could see hm in Germany.

Re, mazda... I get CMs sentiment re preseason. But given that, isnt NOW the time he should be seeing a bit of PT.that he isnt tells me that hes either hurt or so far off the game that theyre not even interested in him.

Here are Ancelotti's comments on Julian Green after last nights game.

http://www.espnfc.us/international-champions-cup/2326/video/2920606/ancelotti-green-will-have-chance-to-start

It is slightly broken English but I think when he said something like "we have nothing special planned for Julian, he is part of the team", I think he meant they are not planning to move him.

At the very worst, Julian looks to have performed well enough that maybe a mid table team might see if they can get him for a reasonable fee.  Other than that, it looks like he should make the roster and probably get spot minutes as a sub and maybe good minutes in Cup games.

I think with Conte being with Italy for so long this summer, he is probably behind the 8 ball in evaluating the top talent, much less getting a chance to evaluate the lower level talent like Miazga.

In a normal situation where the coach knows his team very well and is just determining the differences from last season to this season, the coach probably gets more chances to look further down the roster.

That being said, Miazga not even getting 1 minute in a meaningless friendly game in America is a bit concerning.  Most teams that come over for friendlies who have American's on them usually find time for them in these games if for nothing more just general PR.

good point about the new coach, andy.

eta: and about US players typically getting pt above and beyond in the US.

from ESPN

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Chelsea and U.S. international defender Matt Miazga said he hasn't heard anything about a plan to send him out on loan, and that he's staying focused on preseason with Chelsea.

Manager Antonio Conte said that he'll make a decision about Miazga when the team returns from its U.S. tour.

Miazga was an unused substitute in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup, marking the second consecutive ICC game that he didn't get on the field.

When asked during his postgame news conference if Miazga would remain with Chelsea this season, Conte said: "About [Miazga's] situation, I prefer to speak with the club.

"With the club, we are agreed that after this period, and after I have seen the situation with the players, we must take together the right decision for the player, for the club. It's important this."Miazga said that he feels preseason is going well and that he's just looking for an opportunity to play, adding that he has improved his communication and on-field awareness since moving to Chelsea last January.

Miazga made two appearances for the Blues following his transfer, but with Conte taking over this season, now comes the challenge of adjusting to the Italian's way of doing things. Miazga said this is an ongoing process.

"There's different philosophies and methods; attacking philosophies and the way we're defending, our shape and all that stuff," he said.

"We're working hard to fulfill that philosophy and continue to work. It's preseason, so there's obviously going to be some moments where we can improve."

Charlie Davies has not played for the Revs since April.  It was said he was carrying an abductor strain injury.

Yesterday it came out that he was diagnosed for cancer and has been in treatments.  He tweeted yesterday that he has beaten it (it is in remission) and is happy to be training with the team again.

He has had a rough spring.  On top of the cancer he and his wife had twins born 3 months premature.

Recognized at young age as a good prospect, playing in BMs youth setup.  Had the option to play for US or Germany and chose the US, probably as a result of a prid quo pro with Klinsmann that saw him taken to the World Cup in 2014.  Didn't see much time but scored a fluky mi#### goal vs Belgium to get the US back into it in extra time after they'd gone down 2-0.

Played for BM2 for the last couple years, which is in the 4th division and made a huge fuss about it two years ago.  Assumption is he'll be sold or allowed to leave on a free when his contract is up at the end of this year despite the nice chatter from the coach and his pre-season performance -- seems very unlikely he's good enough to break into BM's senior team.

Still not buying it.  Obviously love to be wrong, but if it seems too good to be true, it's usually too good to be true.

I am of the opinion him staying at Bayern is not a case of too good to be true.  I think it actually will hurt his development.  I would much rather see him get sold to a mid table type BL team or a top BL2 team, in which minutes might be easier to come by.

One thing none of us can argue about is that he is getting fantastic minutes this summer even when the some of the main roster is available so if anyone at all is interested in him, they are getting plenty to judge him on.

I am convinced Obie was simply made of glass.  A gust of wind would see him out for weeks. :)

Holden might be a better comparison in both his never ending serious issues and his incredible positivity in the face what seemed from the outside dire circumstances.

Yeah, I don't see how a guy like Green ever breaks into the Bayern team on anything close to a consistent basis. The second any other German team develops a forward better than him, Bayern will just buy that guy.

Cool to see Green presumably making some progress, but if was truly good enough to play for BM, we would have seen some sort of hint of it over the past 2 years.

Rooting for a transfer.

I think he was comparing him to the biblical Job.

Something might be up.

for the first time in forever, Zardes is not in the LA 18.  He is healthy from what I can tell.

Searching on Zardes on twitter brings up a ton of very recent (with in the last 30 minutes) tweets from Turkey which looks to be some sort of transfer news/speculation (can't tell for sure from the lanaguge but they are clearly referencing Zardes and Galaxy/LA.)

Found this

LAGalaxy: RT LAGalaxyInsider: #LAGalaxy striker Gyasi Zardes out with a chest muscle strain which occurred during training. #SEAvLA #LosAng

Some MLS notes:

* Acosta scored for Dallas today

* Shea came in as a second half sub as an attacking player and had a gorgeous assist

* Jozy played today as a second half sub and scored late (Bradley is still hurt)

* Kreis got a strong 3-1 win in his first game for Orlando

* Morris worked really hard today and got himself into good positions but his finishing was atrocious.  This has been a problem for weeks for Morris who should have close to 15 goals by now with even an average finishing ability.

And in a fun side note, Giovinco had this play in a link up with Jozy.  You don't see this too often :)

Little blurb about Yedlin and Sunderland links:  http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/yann-mvila-deandre-yedlin-targets-11690449

David Moyes says Sunderland have made enquiries about last season’s loanees Yann M’Vila and DeAndre Yedlin - but insists they are just two of a number players on his radar.

Some reports last week indicated the Black Cats were close to agreeing a £5m fee to sign French midfielder M’Vila from Russian club Rubin Kazan, although it has since emerged that it is far from a done deal.

And Sunderland are also interested in bringing Spurs’ USA international right-back Yedlin back to Wearside after he impressed last term.

But new boss Moyes is scouring the market for players and is determined to get value for money.

He said: “Both M’Vila and Yedlin made decent impacts.

“They are players who we have talked about in the last week a lot, and we have spoken to people about them.

“So I would say that they are players who are out there, but they are among a number of players who we are looking at.

“I want to see if there are better players than that available, or if there is better value.

“I’m having to find out about the market quickly, and seeing what is there.

“At the moment the market is difficult and getting a price and valuation on someone is not easy.”

:lmao:  Of course they are. Why would the FIRE! want Bedoya?

Mixed feelings about this.  I like that Bedoya is in a UCL league and gets tons of minutes, but I hate that Ligue1 is the one league not regularly on American TV so we can't see how he's performing at the club level.  I wish he'd get a move to the EPL, but I just don't see that happening.

can't wait to see that St V&G stadium/runway in action.

also- the US sits on 7 while Guat has 6. Guat plays away to T&T (who they lost to at home) and then at home to StV&G (which should be a win).

I thought this was the USMBTRT thread.

(Bonus points for anyone who knows what that is without Googling.  Actually, I don't even know if Googling would help...)
