US Men's National Team (57 Viewers)

Early edition of my next new article. 🤓 Any thoughts before I release it to the general public tomorrow?
I liked it, but at least on my iPad, I only see the left half of that spreadsheet, and more of the names I would want to look for are on that side.

Also, In the Bobby Wood paragraph it needs to be “he’s hurt”.

Don't know if it would fit with the intended length of this article, but I would like to see some discussion or highlights of any guys Berhalter  seems to  over/under value to a big degree versus the two games.

I think I fixed the missing snippet and corrected the typo. Thanks. The over/undervalued thing is a good idea too. If I get some time when the kids go to bed tonight I may try to add a section on that. I appreciate the feedback.

I think I’m going to use this dark little corner of the internet as my testing ground. Hope y’all are cool with that.

Edit: Added a "Berhalter Favorites" section. Good call, dude.

yet another injury that might effect the Gold Cup

Some bad news confirmed by BL at today's presser: @j_brooks25 will miss VfL's last 2 games. "His medial ligament is causing him discomfort. Jay has been a key figure this season, & it's a big shame he’s not available, but the others will fill in for him."

I have not had a chance to read it closely yet but it looks like an interesting premise.

In terms of the ratings, how often do EA and FM update them?  I always wondered if they would look similar to whoscored.com's type ratings for players (which are updated every game).

Love this article.  I've wondered about this for a while as we worked on our own little database of players.  I considered pulling in EA ratings and then adding a little FFA coefficient to give our own twist on how we rate some of these guys.

Is there a way to get a quick download of everyone's ratings (I lazily haven't looked)?  I seem to agree more with the EA ratings than the FM from what I saw in your article.

On the FIFA database you can sort by nationality, but it’s a little bit of a pain because there’s all these “versions” of some players.

And to answer @NewlyRetired‘s question. I believe FIFA updates some players in the middle of the season. FM has updates crowdsourced by fans, but no official updates that I could find.

yuck.  With Brooks, Yedlin and Adams all hurt and still no LB, the Gold Cup defense could be interesting.

Maybe Miazga and CCV together?

Now up 5-0 36 minutes in.  That escalated quickly
Must have been a good draw for the US as most other knock out round games have been competitive.   Only Canada's game was a blow out (4-0) in the knock out round (which may indicate again that Canada was a really strong group opponent for the US.).

Both Mexico and Costa Rica won 2-1 in their knock out round game.

Considering Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez's initials are the same as a new firebrand House member and he's signed a contract with the Sounders, his nickname should be "The Green New Deal."

6-0 now, Reyna with a hat trick.  Other goals from Ocampo-Chavez, Yow and Busio.

The US will play Panama for the one and done game to qualify for the WC.  Panama beat Guat today 2-0.

This is another wake me up when we play Mexico tournament. I mean I’ll still mostly watch, but pretty boring.
Considering the yutes' recent history of flubbing, (and wet and bumpy fields) I'm taking nothing for granted.

Does he know what a garbage disposal is?

Can anyone confirm that the Gold Cup quarterfinal tickets in Philly on June 30th are for the games involving both teams that advance from the pool that the US is in?

Yes they are for both games. At least I hope so it's not like it gave me a choice of early or late when I bought them.  Not sure what is out there now but I was able to get 4 rows off the field right about at the 18 for $70 when they first went on sale.

I keep asking and forgetting, so apologies... de la Fuente- cap-tied?

that's a pretty nice looking team.

I wasn't sure if guys like pomykal and weah would get called up for the big boys or not... I guess not.

maybe I'm wrong about him- but what little I've seen of Rennicks hasn't impressed... strikes me as an old-school US type of forward without much in the way of finesse or skill, but who makes up for it with hustle. tbh- didn't even see much in the way of soccer smarts or instincts in the mcbride, ching, twellman mode.

That's a good list of Forwards.

I'm guessing since Sargent isn't here he's going to be on the GC roster.

This seems like a positive trend, albeit with a very small sample size:

Will Parchman‏Verified account @WillParchman

Number of college players to make a US U20 World Cup roster over the last 10 years:

2009 - 9

2013 - 4

2015 - 2

2017 - 4

2019 - 0

I keep asking and forgetting, so apologies... de la Fuente- cap-tied?
Once he plays in his first U20 WC game he will be youth cap tied, meaning he can only play for another country if he goes through the one time switch.  And since (reportedly) he is not eligible for Spain yet, the only country he will be allowed to switch to is Haiti.

So for now, it is easiest just to assume he is with the US for life now.

* = Has strong chance to start

.................................Scott*

Dest*........McKenzie.......Richards*..........Gloster

Hopefully Araujo's is hurt, because if he was left off due to his quality, that is likely going to open the door wide for Mexico to come say hello...

I like it a lot.

To add to it, not only are there no college players on the team, we have players like Aaronson and Araju, both regular starters for very good MLS teams that did not even make this squad.    And this isn't even mentioning some one like Tyler Adams who in most cases would be on this team.

Lots of good signs and on paper this is one of the best (if not the best) U20's sides we have ever sent to the WC.  Now we'll see if they can live up to the mini hype.

Ramos looks to have confirmed this

“Gregg believes that Tyler has moved on from here. Obviously he plays in the Bundesliga and he’s doing great there. And so Tyler wasn’t even on the 50-man roster. So he’s not an option like a last minute,” Ramos said. “Josh Sergeant at the time, we weren’t 100% sure, because of the playing time situation. So I did put him on the 50-man roster. But I think it’s clear that he’s going to go into this summer with the senior national team. So it’s probably best that that he continues to move in that direction.”

There is one guy we have not mentioned yet and he can show just how much can change from U17 to U20.

Carleton was arguably the best US U17 player a couple of years ago and now he could not even make this U20 team.

It’s possible that Aaronson didn’t make it on merit.  However, I also believe that Ernst Tanner did not want to lose Aaronson from the Union for an extended period of time based on comments he’s made in the past about releasing players for youth tournaments.

I’m thinking his thoughts are that McKenzie and Real would benefit from the national team reps since they’re not playing regularly for the Union right now.  Aaronson is a different story.

Adams still MIA :(   I think the writing is close to the wall for the Gold Cup.   This is the longest injury I can ever remember for a US player with out some sort of real information outside of "when he is ready, he will play"

Swag started in the same spot for the second week in a row (yippee!) but it was in the back 3 (booo!)

RMC report this evening that United States international attacker Timothy Weah is set to be sold by PSG this summer, after a moderately successful loan spell with Scottish outfit Celtic.

Crystal Palace, Rennes and a third unnamed club have positioned themselves to purchase the son of the President of Liberia and Ballon D’Or winner George Weah.

Initially, there were talks about a second loan spell with Celtic, but on Friday the 19-year-old said goodbye to the Scottish club via social media network Instagram.
