US Men's National Team (13 Viewers)

It will never happen in a million years, but we could play against Cuba with the following team in October and still be competitive, Imo.

..............................Steffen

Dest.........Arauju..........CCV...........Robinson

................................Weston

...................Pomykal.........Mendez

Nips.................Soto.....................Pulisic

In second half have Levya sub in for Weston, and Pepi sub in for Soto.

It would lock up almost every dual nat player.  CCV and Robinson are not really needed here since they are never getting called by England.

I dunno, when I look at their fullbacks I don't think he's that far away. CB is ridiculous for them, but I don't he's that far behind guys like Janmaat, Daley Blind, Dumfries, and van Aanholt. I definitely overrate Dest though, and forget they have a major tournament next summer and their definition of a cycle is a lot different than ours.
One thing on our side is, Holland does not have to "reach" like we do into younger players.  Typically they use players in their prime.  Dest does not fit that model yet.  Maybe they could offer him a U23 type role and let him grow into it.

Fox Sports will be broadcasting 220 Bundesliga matches this season.  Let's hope they feature our Yanks on the easier to find channels.

The one thing we may have going for us (yes I am reaching here), is that Holland has nothing to offer him initially.  He is no where near ready for the loaded Dutch national team, and his age also likely means he can't play for the U19's (he turns 19 this calendar year).

So it might be a choice between "maybe Holland some day vs US National team right now"

Of course US Soccer will find a way to screw that up and leave the door open as long as possible I fear.
Berhalter in November: "I was gonna call Dest in for the games this October, but when Zimmerman/Long/Miazga/whoever got hurt, I felt it was more important to have Gonzalez there just in case."

Holmes still hurt

======

U.S. national team attacking midfielder Duane Holmes was ruled out of Derby County’s opening game against his former club Huddersfield Town – a club where Holmes developed as a player. The Georgia-born Holmes is still out due to the same injury which forced him off the U.S. national team’s Gold Cup roster. The good news is that Holmes should be back soon.

"Duane is not in the team sessions yet but I think is getting close," Derby manager Philip Cocu. "He's doing very well and is in the last part of his rehabilitation. I cannot say how many days but, hopefully, soon he will join the team in the sessions."

* Gooch drew and then scored pk in Sunderland's opening day game in League One

* Dest is on bench for Ajax first league game today

* Weah and Sargent continue to get plenty of preseason minutes

* Gio has moved back to the U19's.

My absolute biggest question about Weah isn't about talent or desire.  It's that he's best suited to a role (trequarista/support striker) that kind of doesn't exist anymore.  That goal would be Kafka/Totti approved.

Was wondering about this. Oh well
He is still probably one of the youngest players on the U19's.  It is likely where he belongs at his age.

Now he needs to do what Pulisic, Sargent and Weston did before him and tear through that level.  He is younger than all of them were though, so we may need to be patient.

USMNT Videos

For U19 academy players, Matthew Hoppe scored two goals for Schalke. Quincy Butler and Uly Llanez played each other and Butler scored twice and Llanez scored once

Hoppes the kid who keeps scoring? Have to figure he'll get bumped up at this rate.
Yes.  I think this is like 6 straight games now.

In Germany, the path seems to be U19 to the first team, so I guess if Schalke start the year barren with scoring, maybe we might see something.  Seems like a long shot though.

In general though, you have to love how so many kids being developed in the US are walking straight into Germany's strong academies and doing very well.  It may be the first consistent signs that our youth development is improving.

I had this thought a couple days ago.  No matter what level young US players are being slotted into, they're initially outperforming it and moving up quickly.  Suggests there's a market inefficiency in judging US players.

Lilywhite Rose

Cameron Carter-Vickers (21) is being chased by 8 Championship sides - Leeds, Fulham, West Brom, Derby, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Luton and Barnsley. CCV has 2 years left on his contract

Can you expand on your last sentence?  It sounds interesting.

Just that teams are buying them at price X and planning to play them in league/team X, but when they actually get them into training they all seem to perform at level X + 1/2/3.  The ones brought in to play with the first team are stars (Adams, McKennie), the ones brought into the U-19 side dominate or make the 1st team bench, the ones brought into the U-17 sides move up to U-19.  It seems to be a consistent thing.

Makes it moot, no? Or do we think horvath has any shot?
If Horvath is the next Friedel, Keller, Howard he'll win the job -- just maybe not this year.

I'm a bit  :oldunsure:  that they felt the need to go out and get a veteran starter though.

That's the moot subtext, imo. Another GK body, and it's horvaths to lose. Starting international GK...time to ride pine.

Sources say that ESPN+ is in the final stages of picking up Germany’s Bundesliga to add to its growing array of soccer offerings. The whole package, according to sources with knowledge of the deal, is expected to be exclusively on Plus beginning in the 2020-2021 season.

The deal is not official yet, so it remains possible there could be some games on linear TV (regular ESPN channels), but at the least, an extremely high percentage will be on ESPN+, Disney’s $4.99 per month sports service.

yay!

Do so many loans get done late because teams want to see how their first couple of games go before committing?

=================

Brian Sciaretta

American defender Erik Palmer-Brown finalizes his loan to Austria Vienna. Good move as the club is in the Europa League qualifying rounds but is also off to a poor start in the Austrian Bundesliga and can really use him (lost first two games by a combined 1-6 score)

Horvath's  manager on the transfer

======

USMNT Only

"A goalkeeper was not really high on my wish list, because I have a lot of faith in Ethan Horvath. He can still grow enormously. But these are different circumstances and Simon was an opportunity. At a certain point you have to make the decision also done." - Club Brugge's manager

sounds like manager-speak. reality is native international mignolet slots immediately into the starting spot and horvath will be fighting for scraps until injury, transfer or retirement.

Between Robinson and Pomykal, those are the two biggest break outs of the year so far.  If he continues this growth, he is going to challenge Miazga, Long and Zimmerman for the spot next to Brooks.

Hopefully a decent Euro team is paying attention.
I watched a little of that ATL game, and cast a lazy eye on him for the first time. looked consistent, confident and capable.  how old is he?
