US Men's National Team (17 Viewers)

Oh oh...

========

4. Antonee Robinson's injury from last week "is a little bit of a concern but we think he'll be good to go"

5. All but 1 of 26 players is fully vaccinated. One unidentified player has gotten 1 of 2 shots. Team waiting to see how that impacts his possible travel to Panama.

6. Because of UK covid travel guidelines, Fulham's Antonee Robinson and Man City's Zack Steffen probably won't go to Panama. However, "situation is fluid ... and as we get more information, we'll make that known."

So we're already down to 23 for Panama assuming the 1 unvaccinated guy is not Robinson.  Fun.

Beating a dead horse, but for just about any other player it would be so odd for a guy to limp off the field against Canada over a month ago and still be out with a vague ankle problem.  When the player is Pulisic, its just business as usual and totally expected.  He's not even training yet.  Did he break the ankle or what?

Pulisic limped off against Honduras after a pretty clear collision in the shin/knee area.

One thing that is so much different between Euro leagues and US leagues is the access to some useful injury information in terms of expected recovery.

For both Pulisic and Gio, we did not see any prognosis (one week, two weeks a month...nothing).

Seattle Sounders and USYNT midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting has been scouted by Liverpool, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, I'm told. RBW, 16, has made four MLS apps this year. Obviously very early, but noteworthy these kind of clubs are on notice.

Nervous but excited.  Going to be a long day waiting.

I expect to keep my 100% record of not having my line up match GGG's.  I strongly believe we should be playing our top team in the first and third games, and then heavily rotating in game two where we play as many workers as possible (Zardes, Yedlin, Roldan, Zimmerman, Acosta etc) to try and grind out an ugly point in Panama.

Here would be my starters tonight

........................Turner

Dest........Robinson....Richards......Robinson

.........................Adams (c)

.............Musah.............Weston

Aaronson..........Pepi..................Weah

It would not shock me if GGG plays some else in Richards, Musah's, Pepi's and Weah's spot.

      Aaronson      Pepi         Weah

                 Weston       Musah

                           Adams

Robinson   Richards   Robinson   Dest

Do it

Does Weah usually play on the right or left for Lille? I thought he played on the right with the US. From what I remember, he's a straight up traditional winger not an inverted, drive inside onto his strong foot guy.

That would seem to mean Aaronson on the left, if they're playing together.

I fully expect to see Zardes get the start tonight. Greg is having withdrawals having not played him all Summer. Gotta scratch that itch .

      Aaronson      Pepi         Weah

                 Weston       Musah

                           Adams

Robinson   Richards   Robinson   Dest

Do it
The lineup picks itself.

We just need to see what GGG does to undo that.

What I *think* will be the lineup:

      Aaronson     Zardes      Arriola

                 Weston          Lleget

                             Adams

Robinson  Zimmerman  Robinson  Dest

Have you guys learned nothing from watching GGG so far? He's going to put all the veterans he can into the starting lineup and then make subs as he thinks the game dictates. Lleget and Arriola will start and Roldan will be the super sub.

Since JAM is missing so many of their top players, GGG is going to try to grind them down, then start making subs in the 75th minute and hope the fresh legs he puts out there can turn the game on its head and get a goal.

Re: Weston-I sense him getting a yellow card tonight. He doesn't need to prove anything to me tonight, though I admit being nervous about how his recent history with both club and country are affecting his attitude and play on the field. I'm just hoping to see something close to the Swag who I've enjoyed watching since the first post-wet and bumpy friendlies.

What I *think* will be the lineup:

      Aaronson     Zardes      Arriola

                 Weston          Lleget

                             Adams

Robinson  Zimmerman  Robinson  Dest
This guy gets it.

My reply to the Merchants of Gloom:

It’s an issue, but at the same time we’ve drastically reduced our goals allowed. Comparing the last Hex against our competitive games this summer, our goals are down 17%. Our opponents are down **70%**. That’s a fantastic trade off.

If most everyone is capped at 200 minutes or so for the window, tonight's game and the 3rd game v Costa Rica are the ones that makes the most sense for the depth guys to be on the field.  I'd expect we see a smattering of players 12-20 start in both those games, with the best XI starting at Panama (depending on what you think about whether @Canada counts as "away", it might be our 2nd toughest game of the Hex).

Depending on how Berhalter views Hoppe on the wing, you might see Aaronson, Weah and Hoppe all start two games -- with Arriola coming off the bench.  But I'd bet both Hoppe and Arriola start at least one game.

I am not following the math here.  Would it not make more sense for the first stringers to play 180 against Jam and CR and then 20 against Panama to get to this 200?  It seems like your way would play the reserves more than the starters unless I am misunderstanding you.

If we can get a win tonight, that means we can add Jamaica to Mexico for our routing intersts in terms of qualification.  We always want the top team in the group getting max points and the bottom team stealing points from any other team.  Both help the US's cause.

But first and foremost a win is paramount tonight given the circumstances (at home, to the bottom team in the table, and Jam is probably as weakened as we are by missing their better players.  Hopefully our depth is stronger than theirs.)

See... I'm opposite about that.

I'd prefer to throw our A team out there for these must-win games at home. See what our depth can do away to Panama... they've been decent about being organized defensively and gutting out performances.

I think they're more effected by losing their top players. I feel like the gap between those guys and their depth is greater than ours.

In the other games tonight we want to hope for this:

1) Mexico wins at home vs Canada

2) Honduras and CR draw

3) ELS win or draw at home against Panama
Maybe it's just because it's Mexico, but I think I'm still rooting for a Mexico draw as it's less points given out.  I don't think we can assume at this juncture that Mexico will be way above the 3rd place line.  Definitely don't want to see Canada take 3 points, though.

I don't think we can assume at this juncture that Mexico will be way above the 3rd place line.
From waht I've seen of each team and with the US dropping easy points already, I'm making that assumption.

And right now it's looking like Canada and Panama are the other main teams that will battle the US for a spot. As such, I want everybody else, but especially those two, to drop as many points as possible.

I'm saying all the starters play Panana plus one other game, and I doubt he does a full 2nd string for a single game.

So something like 5 starters + 5 reserves v Jamaica, the full XI @ Panama, and then 6 starters + 4 reserves v Costa Rica.

Which one of you jokers created the Kickstarter?

U.S. Soccer announces the return of its youth national teams, which had been on hiatus because of the pandemic. Training camps for the under-17 and U-20 #USWNT this month. Youth #USMNT will also resume this fall.

Belgium's front 3 today vs France: Hazard, Lukaku, De Bruyne

France's front 3: Griezmann, Mbappe, Benzema
Yeah, we have some work left to do.
