US Men's National Team (21 Viewers)

He’s a low volume touch/high efficiency finishing striker. I think the performances have been pretty indicative of his skill set.
I don't think that's a problem in this setup with the players around him.  CP, Reyna, Swag, Aaronson, Musah, Adams, Dest, Jedi should have waaaay more touches, but they've struggled to finish or meaningfully affect a low block defense.  Pepi makes the most of those few chances and forces the center backs to focus on him, dragging them out of position.

I mean, that header today was beautiful.  I honestly don't think there's anyone else on the team that can score that one.

Jamaica had NOTHING in the midfield and we had 3 champions league group stage level talents (seems like Musah will be there soon if played in the right position).  That was the difference. Total domination there, which allowed everyone else to play free and aggressive.

Starting Zimmerman was the right move. While I'm a big believer in Richards talent (not gonna pretend I've seen him play a lot, but the results speak for themselves), it makes to put the "safest" guy back there. And that was Zimm.

As a non-soccer player, its not as easy to appreciate the non statistical contributions sometimes. But yeah....Nips ran his butt off causing havoc tonight. For a team like Jamaica that didn't have any class in the middle of the park to relieve pressure, that was a HUGE nuisance.

Weah really has the look of someone who could EXPLODE if he can just stay healthy and in the lineup for his club for a solid year. Dude is just a powerful, direct athlete and obviously not unskilled. Add in the world class pedigree and training he received as a boy and the sky really is the limit.

Pepi....what else is there to say. He's a finisher and puts himself in the right spots to do it. There will be some growing pains at some point, I would think (he's never played against ELITE talent) but man he looks so promising. In 2 years, when he fully fills out, he could be really special.

He's already got a really big frame and knows positioning.  I think he should bulk up any more really.  Just strength, flexibility, and knowing when to go down to get a penalty. He's nearly the finished product physically.

Yeah, not saying he's gotta get huge (or that he should) but a little grown man strength would obviously help.

Many don't know this but his dad had very little to do with his soccer upbringing as he took a hands off approach.  It was all from his mom who got him started in soccer and was his first coach.

it is near impossible to predict the lineup for Panama but I will give it a shot based on today's subs and players who went 90 and assuming Jedi and Steffen don't travel.

.................................Turner

Yedlin............Zimm..........Robinson..........Bello

................................Acosta

:..................LDLT................Lletget

Weah...................Pepi.....................Hoppe

* Until Turner makes a mistake, he has to stay in goal

* I don't like messing with CB's and as much as I want to see Richards, I would stick with Zimm and Robinson

* Huge downgrade in FB's but if Dest is hurt and Robinson can't travel, I think we are stuck here.  Hopefully they both play well defensively because neither gives a lot going forward

* I really like the front line.  But if Lletget plays timid and if neither FB gets involved, they could see very little of the ball.

Ugh...why no Adams, covid thing?

Tactically and personnel wise I didn't see any obvious mistakes from GGG.

Kids seemed better prepared, better movement in the final 3rd,  lineup decisions sufficient.

Let's see how we perform in Panama.

Let's talk about replacing GGG.  13 wins or ties in the last 13 games.  Seems kind of sub-par to me...was expecting a 15 if not 16 unbeaten streak in the last 13.

You wonder how strong their homefield advantage will be...been a while since they've been relevant.
It'll be interesting for sure. They handled the US last time up there, and the crowd seemed legit.

I had been worried about Davies and David as guys who could break down the US or most teams without much help. But add Tajon and Hoilet, and with the rest of the lesser known guys playing consistent and organized...they seem bona fide contenders in the region.

Just finished watching but I’m hoping somebody pointed out that possibly our two best players on the night were 18 year olds.

As good as Pepi was, and he was great in the 2nd half, I have a Musah boner after watching that match.  And if Weah had been on the pitch the entire time it may have been a Weah boner.

Guys - we have some serious talent on this team - I don’t care what that goofball @Steve Tasker says.

With 2 goals for FCD when they played here and 2 tonight, Pepi is tied with Diego Fagundez and Cecilio Dominguez as the all time leading goal scorer in the history of Q2 stadium.

Oh, there's talent.  But serious talent?  I still think this team has 4-5 star players, and a bunch of other CONCACAF+ talent.  It's a team that can make noise on the world stage........to an extent.

I thought they played well tonight once the game opened up.  First half was a dull draw.  Aaronson impressed.  Pepi was invisible the entire first half but obviously a monster in the second half before the sub.

Thought Musah was good, but I've been a fan of his game.  Team was solid up the middle all day.  I don't really rate Jamaica too highly though, to be honest.

I’m obviously joking but if I’m being honest I think this is the most talent we’ve ever had and maybe easily.  Not sure what those who have followed it closer than me for decades thinks but I just feel like we have super depth with several guys that if they develop can be outstanding.  World class?  Maybe not but realistically we could go the rest of WCQ without Pulisic and still finish top of the qualifying.  And I don’t think we have any obvious holes like we seemed to always have in previous years.
