US Men's National Team (21 Viewers)

Fulham are prepared to sell USMNT defender Antonee Robinson for around £35M this summer.

Newcastle and Marseille are actively pursuing Robinson, while Manchester City and AC Milan have previously expressed an interest.

That's a lot of money for a guy that regularly has passes clang off his credit card sized shinguards.
we all lament his technical skills but the guy just works for some reason. His engine is second to none.

I have to say this, he hit my shin guards. Nobody has ever hit my shin guards. I’ve never heard of this one. Look at those shin guards. Are they small shin guards? And he referred to my shin guards if they’re small, something else must be small. I guarantee you there’s no problem. I guarantee you.

WOW. Weston McKennie has been given a 3-match suspension & Sergiño Dest a 2-match suspension for what happened against in the NL semifinal. In my opinion, this is extremely harsh from Concacaf.

I can understand Dest.

The McKennie one blows my mind. He was surrounded by 7+ guys and was defending himself. There was nothing attacking or vicious about what he did.

And he got more games than Dest.

I hope that 3 games at least includes the final he sat out.

Nope, looks like it is in addition to the auto 1 game suspensions

I mean this is close to outrageous unless they had a camera angle we did not see. 4 games for effectively a push is ridiculous.

So this really sucks. I believe the next real games for the US will be the quarter finals of the 2023/2024 Nations League. That 2 legged series has massive added importance because it will be used to determine if the US qualifies for the Copa America in 2024, which considering we are hosting it, would be an unmitigated disaster if we lose that 2 game series.

Note that we would actually have one more chance to qualify if we face plant in the quarters.

We can't play Canada, Costa Rica, or Mexico in the quarters. So it will be some one like Panama, Jamaica, Haiti, ELS etc.

Given the horrendous luck we have with injuries, having two starters out with suspensions is unfortunate to say the least.

Dest I can understand. Weston is surrounded by 6 Mexican players and is just trying to get away at that point. His suspension is ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous considering how many times he's had his neck or head grabbed by Mexican players in the past without them even getting a red card, much less a suspension. Hopefully the US doesn't just appeal, but puts out photos for the public of exactly what I'm talking about. Show the world the ******** bias.

What was the punishment for the Mexican players?
I'd seriuosly like to know this. Snacks was mandhandled and pushed towards the Mex bench- with them all giving him the business. If he's getting 3 games, I assume those 8 or so players are too.

I read that some one who speculated that the US appealing the red card for Weston immediately after the semi final may have pissed CONCACAF off and they did a petulant extra harsh suspension for Weston.

I continue to wonder if they had a camera angle that showed something Weston did that was more than a push. If not this may very well be the most harsh suspension I have ever seen. 90% of the time, that gets a yellow card. 4 games is outrageous.

oh, some possibly really good news if this is true! See bold below

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Concacaf has now confirmed that McKennie has been banned for three more matches, in addition to automatic one-match suspension, while Dest has been banned for two more matches. Montes and Arteaga have been banned for three and two games respectively and will miss Gold Cup games, although neither McKennie nor Dest are in the USMNT squad for the tournament. However, it's been indicated that the U.S. pair's suspensions will be served during the competition.

honestly I have no idea how Dest can serve his supsension in the Gold Cup. He was not rostered for him to even have a chance to appear. At least Weston was on the prelim roster.

In other words, Concacaf math.

Africa better step up their game, they can't let CONCACAF get too much of a lead........

As much as I would love to belong to a sane confederation, I bet I would miss the lunacy factor...........

Honestly I am not sure what is more dumb. Weston's suspension length or the fact that he can serve it in a tournament he was not rostered for.

Both make CONCACAF look silly IMO
It's an official CONCACAF match. The fact that they weren't going to play doesn't matter. If you are suspended, the nation doesn't have to hold an open spot for you.

I think this was just done to set a precedent and the fact that it is meaningless allows them to make it even more severe.

@BrianSciaretta

CONCACAF has warned the US and FMF “that more severe sanctions could be taken should incidents occur during their upcoming matches in Concacaf national team competitions.”- after countless incidents between these teams, only now are they serious about it? It’s very silly, TBH

Really need to add a Tia Domi or Bob Probert goon to the roster.
His name is Kellyn Acosta.
Matt Miazga is on the Gold Cup roster. Should be enough.
I'm a Miazga fan, but he didn't fare so well the last time. He got a nice picture but got torched right afterward.

Acosta also is pretty good delivering free kicks. He also ****housed a Qatari player into skying a penalty kick in the last Gold Cup. I like Miazga, but Acosta is custom made for CONCACAF play.

more reactions from a meaningless game

=====================

Callaghan joked that the funniest moment he'd seen involving Zendejas was watching him enjoy a meal in the team room without a shirt, but still wearing a Nations League medal.

"You could tell how important that moment was for him, and it's something I was glad he was able to experience with the team. Hopefully we continue to have great success in the Gold Cup and he can keep his shirt off one more time," Callaghan said with a laugh.

On paper Jamaica may be the best team in the Gold Cup. But on paper and what happens on the field for Jamaica don't always jive.

Still, the game tomorrow should give us a good indication of how far the US can go in the Gold Cup.
