US Men's National Team (5 Viewers)

On paper Jamaica may be the best team in the Gold Cup. But on paper and what happens on the field for Jamaica don't always jive.

Still, the game tomorrow should give us a good indication of how far the US can go in the Gold Cup.
Agreed that the US roster looks second best to JAM. But the books are heavily favoring the US right now at -145 vs +390 for JAM. Draw at +255.

I thought the game was tonight?
sorry I have not slept, I thought when I typed that it was still Friday. Yes game is tonight (Saturday)

Dest I can understand. Weston is surrounded by 6 Mexican players and is just trying to get away at that point. His suspension is ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous considering how many times he's had his neck or head grabbed by Mexican players in the past without them even getting a red card, much less a suspension. Hopefully the US doesn't just appeal, but puts out photos for the public of exactly what I'm talking about. Show the world the ******** bias.
I read that some one who speculated that the US appealing the red card for Weston immediately after the semi final may have pissed CONCACAF off and they did a petulant extra harsh suspension for Weston.

I continue to wonder if they had a camera angle that showed something Weston did that was more than a push. If not this may very well be the most harsh suspension I have ever seen. 90% of the time, that gets a yellow card. 4 games is outrageous.

During the game there was one replay angle that showed him slamming hard into a Mexico player in the melee. It’s what caused them to all go after him. I think the media dropped the ball by focusing on the “choke” which was really nothing. They only showed that replay once and if you blinked you missed it. Still excessive imo but the red card was earned.

Lineup thoughts for tonight?

What I'd like:

GK - Turner
LB - Tolkin
CB - Miles/Miazga
RB - Reynolds
Mids - Morris/Sands
AM - Djordje
Wings - Cowell, Zendejas
Striker - Vasquez

Expecting to see guys like Yedlin, Long, Roldan, Jordan Morris and Ferreira. Not trying to criticize those guys because they've each played their part over time, but I'd like to see some guys that I suspect are better or will be shortly and haven't yet been given a chance.

I listed that as my exact starting 11 earlier in the thread except for 1 change. I had Sonora over Djordje

Looks like Miles is still hurt. They are going to miss his speed. here is the line up

=======

..................Turner
Yedlin....Miazga...Long...Tolkin
...........Morris........Sands
..................Sonora
Zendejas.........Jesus........Morris

Morris(Aiden), Tolkin and Sonora are the three to focus on tonight as they are playing in spots where we need some depth.

Also watch for Zendejas to see where he rates against Aaronson.

One player that's not being talked about much but I'm looking forward to seeing is Djordje Milailovic. I haven't seen much of him but he did strike me in his past USMNT appearances as being very callm on the ball, tough-nosed and unflappable in general.

For roster purposes, why do they prioritize the Nations League over the Gold Cup? Isn’t the Nations a relatively new thing?

Looking discombobulated. No flow. Relentless pressure from Jamaica. Again an inconsistent ref. Defending on that free kick was inexcusable and I hope the higher ups pinpoint the deficiency - that was high school level bad.

You could look at Jamaica during the anthems and know they were going to be a nightmare on second balls.

My concern is that the team was set up to attack one way (lots of combinations between Zendejas, Ferreira, and Sonora), but actually mostly played another way ( a direct style Jamaica will eat up).

This is just a weird mish-mash of a starting lineup. Some things I learned though:

1. Miazga should never be allowed near the A team.

2. Long and Morris are veteran presences but its time to move on from them. If we are gonna go young with our B team lets just pull the bandaid and do it.

3. Tolkin looks promising and also has the balls to try that ridiculous hair on national TV. And I love it.
