US Men's National Team (16 Viewers)

I'd like to see a little more cohesion but understand the young guys are going to look for theirs. Not a bad thing but this could definitely be a mercy rule game if it was in effect.

Not sure what we will be able to take away from this game other than depth.

So... nobody is watching? Still not seeing anyone A team worthy.

St Kitts is an inch sway from full concacaf mode.

If we want to play woth the big boys, we have to figure out how to be up 8-0 vs 9 in the back

US doesn't even look like they are trying. Not much to take from this. Should be up more.

I did call 4-0 at the half. 10-0 final. Coming to our end this half. LFG.!

Watching. Jesus with some nice touches. Watching Cowell suck hard for 2 games straight. Not sure why he's on the field.

Yeah. Nice motor and all, but not really good enough for the national team. Still young though.

I'm actually ok with what I've seen from cowell...

The midfield should be a little more dominant for high level games though.

We have figured out the strategy for the island nations for the most part. This seems like a "win by alot to win the group" game rather than "let's figure out a system and the parts".

If you commit to bring your B/C team, find the depth for the holes. This has the feel of jv trying to show out to make varsity... next year.

...................Johnson
Reynolds....Miazga....Neal.......Jones
...........Sands.......Busio
.............Milhailovic
Zendejas.....Jesus......Cade
Uhh... who is "Jones"

I like this lineup better than the one the other night at least.
I think it is over all better as well but I still can't wrap my head around wasting this game when it was an easy cap tie for Slonina.

I would have preferred Vasquez over Jesus but the last time we played a minnow, Jesus bagged 4 so that may be the thinking...
Did the same thing earlier with Celantano, not so much worried about capping him, but sticking Johnson out in front of the kids who are going to be around for the next decade or more doesnt seem productive at all to me.

who is Celantano?
Roman Celentano - Goalkeeper for Cincinnati. He's 22 and starts for the best team in MLS. He now has 46 MLS starts and no one knows who he is.
I am confused. When did we have a chance to cap tie Celantano? Or did I completely misunderstand @Rustoleum? I thought Roman had only been called up to friendlies..
I don't think he's eligible for anywhere else.

I think the point is we called him for that friendly and then started Johnson when Roman has arguably been better this year (and late last year) playing in the same league and is like 47 years younger. It's just wasting these opportunities on Johnson for no real point.
If that friendly had been a “thanks for your service, k thanks bye” game for Johnson that would have been one thing, but obviously that wasn’t the case.

Also, is Zendejas actively trying to nail a fan with one of these moonshots?

They had 0 shots on target tonight and yet we decide to start a 34 year old journeyman GK instead of the best U20GK in the world that still could choose Poland over the US. WTF!!

We won. Nobody got hurt. Nobody got suspended. So that's nice.

But yeah, it makes absolutely no sense to bring Gaga to this tournament and not play him in this game. It wouldn't be predatory (he was a quality MLS keeper and he's already declared his intention to play for US) and it would have accomplished an important task of cap tying him. Just dumb not to.

Prior to the game, I assumed that Jesus would get 6 clear cut chances and score 2 of them. He did a little better than that, so.....great. But it just cracks me up how they now get to use this "fastest US player ever to 10 goals" stat to justify giving him chances for the next 3 years. They were playing against a bunch of amateurs. 40 year old Wondo probably gets at least a brace last night.

There are more games to come. If I'm Gaga and you try to make St. Kitts my cap tying game, I immediately defect to Poland.

Jesus is competing for the role of the 3rd striker along with Sargent, Vazquez and Dike (if he ever stays healthy).

Offensively, he is no worse than any of them. He is the best passer in the group by far. Defensively only Sargent stands out.

I would be shocked if GGG regularly starts anyone over Balogun and Pepi. With only 23 man rosters, a 3rd number 9 may not even be included.

Sargent is the 3rd. He won't score but he can help protect a lead.

Ok, in the "not much to see" take away from that game...

- Jesus play and those finishes keep him in consideration for sure. All 3 were really nicely taken goals.
- gjorgji flashed a lot of nice things, but also disappeared too much. But worth seeing more.
- Cade .. oof. Despite star of the future form for u20s, future should be underlined with his way too inconsistent performances for the big boys. This was a rough one for him.
- Z and Sonora.. despite nice close touch, neither seem to have a feel for the game and decision making.
- liked flashes of Reynolds, feels like he needs more reguoar play for club to work out a lot of kinks.
-Busio kept himself in consideration, but I felt like there was some bad with a lot of good.
-Neal surprised me with his linebreakig passing... Nice to see and hope to see more of him.
-Miazga surprised me with his awful short passing. No gracias.
-Jones feels like he also needs more germinating for club.

Why? Dump the striker and bring in a 5th defender if your striker can't score.

this is translated from Italian but you will get the idea

Milan works on several profiles at the same time and is pursuing the signing of Christian Pulisic.

There is a Pulisic-Milan agreement base, but there is still distance between the clubs.

Milan have also started talking to Villarreal about Samuel Chukwueze

US has moved up to 11th in the latest rankings released today by FIFA.
If we play well in Copa América, maybe we'll get one of those 8 coveted seeded spots to lead a group in 2026.

:bored:
Isn't there a chance we get one regardless as a host country? Or are we assuming that with three host countries, it's not going to work that way?
There is an excellent chance the US will be in pot A imo even if the host is not automatically placed. It is possible that not every team ranked above the US will qualify and there are going to be 12 Countries in Pot A.

With 3 hosts, it may be hard to justify they all go in Pot A so I don't know how FIFA will manage this.

I just assume they're all adults and have had an adult conversation about what will/won't happen that we don't know the details of. Why would he be pissed about any of this?
I look at it logically and I don't care so much about the why's outside of only one exception I will list below.

There was zero upside to starting Johnson. There was zero downside to starting Gaga.

The only caveat is if Gaga was injured or we have some sort of Reyna situation going on where he is not training properly.

KInd of reminds me of the day I cracked into the starting lineup for my sixth grade squad. I didn't tell my mom all the good kids were away playing a friendly vs. the JV team and we played the first grade squad.

Who won?

We did, but I played horrible and lofted every shot attempt into the stands.

I would think Sunday would be a perfect Gaga day. T&T might get a shot on goal but we shouldn't need Turner. He could also start in the quarters as Canada's B team hasn't impressed.

I think Jesus is competing with guys like Sonora. Zendejas, and Mihalovic as much as he is with Sargent or whoever. A versatile attacker who can play as a nine, an inverted winger, or behind the striker.
