US Men's National Team (22 Viewers)

Been hearing a lot about this guy but have not had the chance to see him play yet

Duncan McGuire starting off his pro career very similar to Daryl Dike- big time college player, drafted by Orlando, then scores goals in droves in his first pro season. -

His goal tonight vs Toronto gives him 7 goals in under 750 minutes. - Nice celebration too for a big guy

And on another note, I had McGuire on my lastest projected U.S U-23 Olympic team for the 2024 Paris games

A real poachers goal this one

Per Transfermarkt, Balogun is our highest rated player at $30M. Pulisic at $25M.

Arsenal want $50M for him.

Can't overstate what a huge addition he is at what's been the biggest hole for the last few years.

So which attackers could United look at who are similar to Kane?

To create this shortlist, we first looked at attackers across Europe aged 28 or below at the start of last season who had featured in 900-plus minutes of football. Then we ran a test to find players who rated similarly for on-ball actions like link-up play volume and ball retention using smarterscout’s metrics. We also examined their contribution to attack and propensity to get the ball into advanced areas. Plus we looked at off-ball actions for players with a similar volume of ball recoveries/interceptions, defensive actions like tackles/clearances, alongside their levels of defending intensity.

Given Kane’s maximum score for ball progression, players who were able to drop deep before playing line-breaking passes to team-mates came out well, which is why you might find a handful of wingers on our list.

The No 1 ‘like Harry Kane’ striker on our shortlist is Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Reims in France’s top flight, scoring 22 goals and adding three assists at the tip of Will Still’s 4-2-3-1. It’s already a summer of change for the young striker, having recently declared his national team allegiances to USMNT (he was also eligible for England, for whom he has 28 age-group caps, and Nigeria).

Balogun is good enough to be starting for a European-level club, but is unlikely to find himself ahead of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in the pecking order at Arsenal. As such, he is said to be reluctant to extend his current contract which expires in 2025. Marseille, Monaco, RB Leipzig and both Milan and neighbours Inter are among those monitoring his availability.

This is great news! We don't see any where near enough loans in MLS and this may open up a path to playing time for Craig who looked great at the U20 WC

From the inbox: Philly Union have loaned Brandan Craig to Austin FC.

Craig was sitting behind a trio of high caliber MLS center backs that he wasn't going to displace anytime soon. Excited to see how this loan might materialize into more minutes for the #USMNT U20 lad

Apparently Taylor Booth's younger brother (who I didn't know existed) is training with the Leicester City first team and could get some time with them this season.

Apparently he's 19 and spent some time in the RSL youth academy before heading over to the UK in 2020

This is Zach I think (Taylor has 2 brothers that play but I think the younger one is Zach).

I know nothing about him outside of being a midfielder but if he can break into what should be an upper half of the table Championship team at 19, that bodes well.

come on, 23 will do it I bet. So close....

AC Milan and Christian Pulisic, getting closer. After personal terms agreed and player pushing since last week, clubs now close to agree on the fee €22m second bid submitted and talks progressing to final stages.

If I were Chelsea here I would gamble a little. They should grab a % of a sell on fee for Pulisic, who at 24 has one more big move in him and I still think some MLS team may break the bank for him if he has a good WC 2026. And even if not an MLS team, his value will be high for another Euro team as well if the Milan move and WC go well.

Talk to a mutal friend of mine who’s in touch with Pulusic family and had him at youth level in PA. Pulusic wanted Milan really bad. Apparently grew up a fan of the club. He decided to take a pay cut to facilitate move. He just wants to play at this point.

Milan contact for one of the fan clubs said Milan talked to CP about putting him in his advanced AM role he plays for USMNT and that’s how they’ll employ plus on either wing when needed. CP loves the idea which is why he wanted to go. Based on all the reports Pulusic told his team to tell Chelsea he only wants Milan and it looks like a deal is super close at this point.

Gonna be fun having a local kid on the club now

He's been called to the US U19s a few times but despite being a 2004, he never got a call with the U20s at any point. Good to hear if he's making waves.

There are actually quite a few guys like Zach Booth floating around. Some of them take a while like LDT or Marlon Fossey or even Taylor Booth so it's easy to lose sight of them. But we're seeing a lot of kids head to Europe before 18 even and they disappear until suddenly they are in the first team.

Three years is a long time. A year ago, I don't think Taylor Booth's name had been mentioned in this thread. I think there's more to come before 2026.

I looked this up out of interest.

He was actually mentioned a long time ago in thread due to being on the U17 team. I think it was Sept of 2017 was the first mention of him. And then talk continued into 2018 when he got transferred to Bayern. That is when he kind of fell off the radar for a while.

Should’ve added this earlier but CP is close friends with McKinnie who he’s asked multiple times about his calcio experience.

Milan have followed CP for awhile when Chelsea first expressed interest in Leao. Numerious players plus Pulusic were offered to Milan to get a deal done. Pioli has been interested in CP for awhile and it looks like Milan’s new moneyball type analytics have figured out CP domestically is playing out of position hope to putting him at his USMNT position helps him more success

Seems like the general consensus is that he's going to stay with Japan (who he has repped at youth level) but since he's not cap tied yet and still US eligible.....

@KentraHagatra

Report: I can confirm that Zion Suzuki’s transfer from AFC Champions League Champion Urawa Reds to Manchester United are true. Transfer is close and on the verge of happening. The 20 year old goalkeeper is NOT cap tied, and has citizenship from Japan, USA, and Ghana. He has represented Japan at the youth level.

edit: This guy is not some major reporter, so not sure how legit this is. But I did see the speculation on twitter from a couple of others places. And I know this kid is pretty highly regarded.

you keep mentioning his "USMNT position" in your posts as being an AM.

Pulisic has played left wing almost exclusively for the USMNT during the entire last cycle for the WC. He had minimal minutes as an AM. GGG employed ~99% of the time a 4-3-3 where he had dual 8's. Pulisic was almost always on the left side of the 3 up front and has no natural skills or instincts as an 8.

His playing style is to crash the box so he is not an old fashioned stay wide winger.

I think Pulisic would function well in a #10/AM central role but he does not have a lot of experience at it with the USMNT.

The US Trinidad game drew a really impressive 2.59m viewers. Given the opponent and the tournament and that it was a group stage game, that is a fabulous number.

To put it in perspective, that 2.59m is more than any EPL game has drawn in the US.

Who would have thought that when Juventus plays AC Milan, we'd be watching McKennie/Weah vs Pulisic/Musah?
That would be so cool :)

I think the likelihood of Weston staying at Juve is low, although if rumors are true, I think Juve have set too high a price for Weston. You can read more here

Interestingly, had Juventus not suffered the points penalty, they would have been in Champions League and Milan would have been bumped to Europa.

Juventus will have to deal with Europa Conference Qualifiers this year.

For a few years now I have been telling and emailing anyone who would listen that the offsides rule should be changed to the opposite view. Meaning if any part of the attackers body is overlapping any part of the defenders body, the attacker Is ONSIDE. I just heard Bruce A saying that MLS is going to be looking into this. He called it the daylight rule. Has anyone implemented it yet? I'm so amped it might happen. It should improve the game quite a bit, and make it easier for refs (new refs especially) to make the right call. And Americans should be able to figure it out now. My kids are giving me full credit for once, lol

I just listened to the same interview in the car :)

I just looked it up and it is confusing to say the least. I don't think FIFA has decided on how it will change yet.

The way Arena explained it though sounds awesome for me (I want more attacking play). The idea of needing "daylight" between the defender and attacker seems much more favorable to the attacker than it is today.

It seem as if as long as a player just has a trailing foot overlapping the defender, he can be almost a full step ahead of the defender when the ball is released.

It will not be an MLS only rule change. If it gets implemented by FIFA, it goes world wide. Sounds like they will be voting on it sometime soon.

Agreed the rule should be changed.

I've also always thought that there shouldn't be offsides inside the 18 yard box. IMO, if you drop a dime to someone right on the goal line and they put it in, you should always be rewarded

Speaking of Arena, it is kind of cool that now that the Revs have signed Ian Harkes, Arena will have coached at the pro level, both father and son.

Do you mean no offside on a ball initially played inside the 18 or received inside the 18?

The rule needs 2 changes, IMO.

1. It's based on feet on the ground. Nothing else. I don't care how you're leaning, where a finger is, drawing a line on a shoulder. Feet on the ground, use VAR.

2. No offsides inside the 18.

I found this nugget about testing the new offside rule. This particular article made it sound like it was a done deal but other articles do not give that impression.

========================================

The new proposals are set to be trialled, with Netherlands, Sweden and Italy all set to assess the rule's viability ahead of a potential implementation throughout world football.

Played. I don't want someone camping in front of the keeper when the ball is at midfield.

But if you've already made it into the 18, I don't think offside trapping you should be an option anymore
