US Men's National Team (9 Viewers)

Weah needs to get off to a good start as chances will be few this year.

Juventus has been removed from the Europa Conference league this year as part of a plea agreement with UEFA over FFP.

Should’ve been demoted to Serie C with the amount of bS and cheating they did

Well that was clearly the worst they have played this tournament. They were much smoother against Jamaica even if it was a draw. I don't think Canada out played the US, the US just had way too many unforced errors.

We continue to get almost nothing out of our wide players who start. I think Cowell has to be given a shot to start against Panama.

The US will lose to Panama if they play anything close to this bad again, IMO.

Also relevant that our European starter right back is getting cooked by a dude who plays for Nashville.
This was very disturbing. I have been happy with Reynolds up to this game but that was only offensively since he was never tested defensively. This was the first time we got to see him in some one on ones and he did not come out looking good at all.

why is vazquez not starting?
That is going to be a big decision for BJ.

I know GGG is almost certainly making some suggestions and GGG is absolutely hog tied to 3 up front, but maybe with the incredible lack of talent we have out wide, it is time for an old fashioned 2 striker set up. In the old days one hulking striker like Vasquez was often paired with a smaller more skilled player like Jesus.

My guess though is that they won't have the time to try anything new and we will just see the same run back again and hope for better quality.

This US team is so lacking any creativity that as soon as Mihailovic has an off game, they can't really produce anything elegant, which is probably why Rt1 started to work.

By the way, if this Canadian keeper can figure out his feet, his shot stopping is really strong. He might be an upgrade over Sweatpants man.

Happy to hear they won. Has the US ever been eliminated this early?
The US lost in the quarter finals in 2000 (on pk's to Colombia)

They made at least the semi finals in every other one I can see (Gold Cup started in 1991, there may have been other similar tournaments before that)

The raw stats read like the US won the game by 4 goals instead of barely getting through to the PK's.

US-CA
67-33 possession
21-5 shots
0-7 saves
13-3 corners

Busio not good 1st half.

2nd half I'll give him some activity points but he just gives the ball wmaway too easily. Did create an own goal though.

The rest...kinda of meh for me. Gressel didn't earn a spot imo. Miholavich same. Just meh.

Saw Neal get the yips. Expected of a 19 hear old.

Didn't see any wing play that made me think the normal "A" starters are being pushed.

What I did see though is that I hope ggg isn't married to the 433. Just didn't seem to jive tonight.

I talked about this earlier as well. I wonder if they will have the guts to change things up mid tournament. Cowell is the only wide player we have on the roster with any willingness to try things and he is still fairly raw.

I hate to say it it but so many coaches have a "system" you must fit into. The 433 isn't easy to switch with just a sub and a move...

Play a system with what's available not the other way around

There is also the club vs country aspect. At club you can train a ton in a specific system. At the national team level it is not as easy to swap formations due to lack of any time to train with players you normally never play with.

That being said I do hope GGG is at least considering something new. The fact that the Gold Cup has been almost identical (with the small variance of inverting the midfield triangle against the minnow) does not give me great hope though (that assumes GGG is in contact with BJ as I highly expect he is).

Yeah, when I read your comment about Canada outplaying us I was thinking we'd watched different games. US was pretty dominant in the 2nd hour, despite all the problems. Canada didn't create hardly anything. The PK was their first shot on goal. And the 2nd goal is an ~easy save for Turner except for the deflection.
