I am not that familiar with Barajas but I guess he had a break out year in Charleston. As a 17 year old he is leading the league in assists and has help lead Charleston to the championship game.

However, he has already played for Mexico's U17 team in a youth cap tying game so he would need to make a one time switch. I think he is on the Mexican team at the U17 WC.

It is a little odd that both Miles and Richards are on the short list, as likely only one of them is going to get signed, if that.

Scally went the full 90 in a 4-0 win and picked up an assist. Paredes was on the other end of the beat down, and went 67 minutes.

Busio and Tessman went the full 90 in a 2-1 win, as Venezia continues its push towards Serie A. They will stay in second place no matter what other results this weekend.
 
I got up early to watch the US play in the U17 WC, but I was off by a day as they play tomorrow. So instead I am watching Senegal vs Argentina.

I am only 6 minutes in and one kid is popping off the screen. Amara Diouf is only 15 and one of the youngest players in the tournament. 30 seconds in he skinned multiple players and put in a perfect cross that forced a save. Then a couple of minutes later, he received a long pass on the left, hit some sweet step overs to open up his shot window and crushed a shot from just outside the box for a goal.

Not only is he almost two years younger than most others, he has also already been capped by the full Senegal team. He was the leading goal scorer in qualification and broke Victor Osimhem's record of goals at the U17 African Cup of Nations.

Looks like he is still owned by a Senegal youth club. I assume there is going to be a feeding frenzy for this kid given his resume at his age.

Luca Koleosho is an absolute superstar in the making. Guy is so damn fast and only getting better. Owns that entire left side of the pitch. And only 19 years old
 
Weston goes the full 90 in Juventus's 5th straight league win. They are now top of the table, but Inter still has a game in hand.

After wondering at times this summer if Weston was even going to dress, he now has the 5th most minutes on the entire team.

Barajas is a top player in this age group and wanted to play for the US. He was a starter for us and then, per him, we just stopped communicating with him. He decided to play for Mexico after that and was one of their best players in CONCACAF qualifying.

He's not the only top prospect with this experience in this group btw. Matai Akinmboni and Chris Olney have been completely ignored. Matthew Corcoran and Noahkai Banks were only just called into the last camp and both may start tomorrow. These guys are top ranked players in the class by pretty much everyone.

And Olger Escobar (NE/Guate), Christian McFarlane (NYCFC/England), and Lazar Stevonovic (Tor/Canada) are now also prelim tied to other countries. It's very strange.

How much of that is due to losing and then not replacing immediately... most of the youth coaching setup? Hope we didn't bite ourselves in the *** over that 6-10 months of youth coaching vacancies.

I guess in some ways this is inevitable as the US quality depth becomes better. With only ~20-25 places available at each age group, there are going to be players looking for other chances.

Obviously we need need to do the best possible to identify the best players but that is not the easiest thing at the younger age groups especially with our country size.

I was begging them to transfer him this summer. Now.... I don't know if there's a better spot for him. He seems to have gained Allegri's trust and even moreso..... the fans are backing him now too. Crazy 3 month turnaround for him.

it really is amazing. We were literally one day away from him not even being invited to the US preseason trip. I don't know what happened that changed their mind to take him but everything has improved from that point on.

I guess in some ways this is inevitable as the US quality depth becomes better. With only ~20-25 places available at each age group, there are going to be players looking for other chances.

Obviously we need need to do the best possible to identify the best players but that is not the easiest thing at the younger age groups especially with our country size.

I think a big factor is a lack of alignment between coaches in the program and what we really need. And I do agree it's a difficult to identify and then find the right balance.

For instance, Tyler Hall has been a mainstay with this group. He's a 5'6" center back that isn't really that fast. He has a very low ceiling but he's very mature and smart for this age group. He has leadership qualities. He will help us win today. But he has almost no future as a center back (or likely any other position at a high level). Meanwhile guys like Banks, Akinmboni, and Stevonovic have clear potential to be NT players one day. And all of them are dual nats so it's important to integrate them.

But as a coach, you get noticed for winning. Our youth coaches are paid peanuts so all of them are looking to move up quickly. And guys like Tyler Hall help do that.

It's very rare you see a kid playing 2 years up at this age. Our wings were so dire in the U17 CONCACAF qualifying and we don't have much else in the pipeline so it's good the 2008 class is loaded there (Berchimas, Julian Hall, Jamir Johnson).
 
US win 3-1. Score flattered the US a bit as SK had a really strong first half.

Looking at the make up of the group, this was likely the key game in hopes that the US would advance to knock out stage.
 
Btw, it's pretty nice to get Noahkai Banks prelim tied. He's German born (I believe to American parents) and in the Augsburg youth system and is one of their top prospects. He's obviously very athletic and at 16 he is already 6'3". Good game today too.

Btw, interesting thing about Berchimas - despite being one of the top players for us in this tournament of 2006s, he is not eligible for the next U20 cycle as he is too young. I believe it will be limited to age groups 2005 to 2007.

In the last U20 cycle, about half the players were from classes younger than 2003. Using the same logic, this U17 side would make up about half the squad. But Berchimas won't be one of them.

he's only played 3-4 games since returning from injury so easy to forget. He walked right back into the side though and Split are leading the Croatia league by a fair margin (though they've played a few more games).

It will be interesting what they do with him because I think they were looking to sell this summer window before the injury but now with the thought of UCL money, it may make financial sense to hold onto him til at least the summer. He doesn't seem to be pushing for a move so my guess is he'll stay put through this season.

A few more puzzling absences from the U-23 roster aside from known club conflicts (McGuire, Morris, Schulte).

- Players I am surprised aren't there: Gutierrez, Luna, Pukstas, Wiley, Bello.

- Those are some big absences.

Diego Luna is not a part of the November @USYNT Olympic team camp. He asked out following the #RSL playoff loss over the weekend, per sources.

He IS a part of the plan for Paris 2024, however, with Pablo Mastroeni saying the team will be “built around” Luna

She will be the highest paid women's coach in the world. Looks to be making very similar to what GGG is making according to ESPN
