US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

Gotta say I'm really excited about a couple of these kids. Noakhai Banks could be the dominant CB we've been begging for. He's 6'4" and 200 lbs. If he'd grown up under different circumstances he'd be getting recruiting calls from every big American football school. Yet despite his size, in the little I've seen of him, he's quick and highly skilled for his age. I absolutely could envision a spot for him at next summer's WC despite him being only 19 if he continues to impress.

Mathis Albert will be fun to watch. I think he and Cavan Sullivan will give a a true look at where our academies are at in the US and whether an extra year in Germany will spring board Albert past Sullivan or not.(I'm assuming Man City will choose to find a European loan for Cavan once he turns 16)
This is a big upcoming game for Banks.

He is coming off his first poor game so we get a quick look at two important questions:

1) Will coach drop him immediately after one poor outing?

2)If not dropped, does he bounce back with a solid game.
He was an unused sub for a cup game yesterday, which makes me hopeful that they're saving him for another start this weekend
Also worth noting...I only watched part of the last game, but he actually looked pretty good at times...other than the own goal.

Musah with a much better game today. Had two passes that sprung the attack and turned into two goals. Played well defensively too. Unfortunately, he still has no product in the final third. The classic Nagbe heatmap is soon going to have to be renamed to the Musah heatmap.

Pulisic looked absolutely gassed. Had a couple incredible crosses that were barely cleared by the defenders' toes that would both been tap ins otherwise. Taken off before the 60 minute mark. Clearly looks like a guy that needs a game or two off though. Maybe with Felix and Gimenez there they have enough attackers of quality to do it now?

No idea who Damien Downs is, but apparently he's a 20 year ger/us dual nat with 10 Bundesliga goal contributions this year. Fantastic
I mentioned him last week as a long shot to take advantage of the recent US striker injuries.

He has played for the US youth teams but was not selected to the Olympic team. He is a really big kid, I think 6'4".

He is a long shot because he is in Bundesliga 2, not Bundesliga.

Felix also scored on his debut.

Milan have a lot of talent up front now so the likelihood that Pulisic will be over worked or Milan have to deal with Leao having to decide if today is the day he wants to try, will be lower.

Yeah. I saw that. Leao looked absolutely giddy with happiness after the goal too. Maybe having a real good friend and national teammate there will spur him to put in a more consistent effort.

FWIW, I thought Felix looked very good and Santi already gave them hold up play they haven't had since Giroud left IMO. That attack could get real dangerous, real soon.... which should be great news for our boy.

Agreed. It wasn't a poor game but his rating was poor due to the own goal.

Downs is starting to open eyes in Germany. Maybe a surprise call up by Poch in March would not be too bad especially considering its not like we are going to slighting any obvious players who deserve to be called up ahead of him. After Sargent, it really is a crap shoot, so Poch will hopefully get this decision right.

DFB U21 squad for 2025 U21 Euro Moukoko , Röhl and maybe Wanner are not in my squad Torn between Nebel and Wanner but based on performances this season, I might prefer Nebel

@DFB @DFBNachwuchs have to contact Damion Downs regularly, a very good centre forward talent

I believe Downs has everything DFB want with their centre forwards in future: size, physicality, duelling, hold-up play, finishing and he’s only 20 years old. I believe he’s better than Keke Topp even Downs wasn’t quite as hyped.

Who do we actually have still standing after Sarge? Vazquez, Ag....?

Those three plus Downs and Ferreira seem like the only guys who wouldn't be completely out of nowhere if they made the team.

Jesus!

Dest update. Unless he gets back very soon a March call up is very unlikely (and even if he was ready I would guess PSV would ask Poch to not call him)

USMNT Otaku

@USMNTOtaku

Peter Bosz on Sergino Dest injury update:"Dest is making great strides in group training, but we will not see him in the match selection in the coming weeks."

Banks, Reyna and Aaronson all on bench. Campbell did not dress

Leeds made wholesale changes in lineup for FA Cup loss today, clearly prioritizing promotion .

Sargent starting.

Sargent is 3rd in the Championship at xG/90 with 0.54. Interestingly Haji Wright is the leader at 0.57.

Last season, Sargent was 2nd at 0.59 behind Jamie Vardy (who crushed at 0.87).

Sargent is still 24 years old. I know he hasn't produced for the US but he's destined to go back to the EPL based on club performance. In the mean time, since Norwich look unlikely to go up, if he doesn't move this summer and can stay healthy, he may well win the Golden Boot in the Championship heading into the World Cup.

His production has been very good and not just pure scoring either. He is already at an all time high for league assists in a season even though he has missed so much time.

But musah appeared to be playing deeper, so maybe a 4-3-3. That said, nobody appeared to be playing in front of him either.

Pulisic came on at halftime and has assisted on both Milan goals. He's played very well today. His second assist was to Santi Giminez btw. Milan gonna have American and Mexican football fans celebrating together lol.

While the recent loss of Tillman and Pepi (two possible starters in March) was disappointing, it still feels like we have a nice compliment of inform players.

Playing a lot and well in big leagues/teams: Scally, Banks, Pulisic, Musah, Weston, Weah, Adams, Richards, Johnny and Jedi

Playing a lot and well in smaller leagues/teams: Trusty, CCV, both Aaronsons, McKenzie, Morris, Zendejas and Sargent

And then supplement this group with a couple of the out of season MLS guys: Ream, Zimm, Miles, Luna, McGlynn, Agyemang

Feels like we should be able to put together a more than solid roster in March if the current health holds:

===================

Future upsides are Pepi, Dest, Tillman and Balogun getting healthy. And Gio finding his form again.

Keeper continues to be a black hole and will likely be Turner again unless some one blew Poch away in the January camp.

Watched him a bit today. They've brought in some new attacking guys like Antony, so he was getting forward less... But was decent putting himself in the right spots to be a supporting guy, both sides of the ball. Played quickly and easily, getting the ball to their attacking players. Id like to have seen him be more aggressive with the ball, but with a guy like Isco in front of you I guess there's no need
