US Men's National Team (14 Viewers)

Haji, Sargent and Aaronson all starting as normal today.

Sargent was named Norwich Player of the Year yesterday.
I watched Haji and Coventry today.

He is really not involved out left. Barely touched the ball. Used as a -kick it down there and see what happens- guy. Had one good solo play opening up a shot for himself after food work down the left, just missing the far post. Then had 3 more plays where he had guys in the middle in much better situations- including a 3v1- and took the selfish and wrong choice each time. Didn't like what I saw.

But Coventry won and got into a promotion spot, so his season continues with a chance at the EPL next year.

Kid's not yet 17 and he's listed at 6'1" and 175. Pretty solid build for a young kid. Haven't watched enough youth teams to see him play... Does anyone know anything about his playing style? We really need some of these young CBs to develop well.

I have only heard his name but not seen him play. He looks 21 in this picture

Berhalter got a rest last night from the mid week game but still ended up subbing in during the second half and providing what ended up being the game winning assist on a nice pull back low cross that his teammate buried.

He's so young it's hard to project as a CB since so much of it is cerebral. Good passer. Average athlete. Probably lacks the quickness to be super high-end.

We're cranking out a lot of good center backs from 05-09 and he's one. I don't think he's at the top of the list but if he were an 01-04 he'd probably be the best prospect we have in those years.

:goodposting:

it's a position that's usually featuring a guy in their mid-late 20s because there's so much at stake, and they must have a mature/sophisticated understanding of the game on both sides of the ball. 16?! amazing we're getting the young guys out there competing at a professional level. fingers crossed for this crop.

Tottenham make £21m Johnny Cardoso decision despite Man United threat

Tottenham chiefs look set to activate their purchase option for Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso, despite growing competition from rival Premier League sides.

Tottenham Hotspur have a pre-existing clause to purchase the midfielder, and have been urged by Spurs fans to take advantage of the Johnny Cardoso deal while they still can.

However, the north London club are not alone in their interest. Manchester United have stepped up their efforts and are believed to be making a strong push to bring Cardoso to Old Trafford in the summer window, aiming to beat Spurs to his signature.

Adding to the competition, Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered the picture as well. Recent reports suggest that Wolves are prepared to triple Cardoso’s current salary if he agrees to join them at Molineux Stadium.

While this recent update will be welcomed by many Tottenham supporters, it was also suggested a few days ago by another outlet that Johnny Cardoso himself remains unconvinced about a move to Spurs. This hesitation reportedly stems from the club’s current poor run of form.

I feel like Spurs and Betis are similar clubs- solid histories, solid team usually fighting to be towards the top... but no genuine ambitions to be THE top when there are money pits in the way. At a guess, Spurs has more depth and might be a tougher fight to start.

but right now, sure- spurs are a trainwreck while Betis has a nice core group of players and coach who play a style that fits Johnny well. Unless wages are a big jump, it's a lateral move at best.

Milan win 2-1 on an own goal v Genoa.

CP went 70+... No idea how he played... and was replaced by Musah. So at least Musah is out of the doghouse no-play zone.

Congrats

They said he can’t become a professional goalkeeper at 5’9. He’s now been inducted to the National Soccer Hall of Fame. This is Nick Rimando, former USMNT keeper who was a part of the 2014 World Cup squad.

Born in California to Filipino and Mexican parents, he became interested in soccer since he was a kid.The problem was Rimando wanted to play a position where height matters, despite his size.

Growing up in the 90s, there were no fancy academies near him to hone his skills. Rimando played for high school and then UCLA— where he impressed many scouts. He’d go on to play for Miami Fusion, D.C. United, and of course, Real Salt Lake where he became a legend.

The keeper also holds the Major League Soccer records for career wins, clean sheets, saves, and overall appearances. His performances in MLS earned him 22 caps for the USMNT, despite having to compete with American keepers in the Premier League at the time.

Now 45, Rimando lives in Salt Lake City and is a board member of Rise Athletics Foundation— a nonprofit organization dedicated to making soccer more accessible for young players in Salt Lake City and the rest of Utah. They are teaming up with the city to build more soccer courts across their communities. They just opened courts in Centennial Park.

Rimando runs goalkeeper camps in Utah as well— using his knowledge, talent, and experience to train the youth.

Very interesting graphic here. Continues to give hope that Cavan may be "that guy" some day

I totally forgot Chucky came over. any idea how he's been (that graphic makes it look like he'd doing well)
I never see MLS games since they moved to Apple as I don't get the service so all I see are occasional highlights.

He appears to be playing ok from what little I have seen. He has picked up 4 goals already but I think a couple have been pk's.

ESPN very understandably struggling to post AC Milan lineups today as they'll be wearing their mother's (maiden?) last names on their jerseys for today's game, and released the lineup using those names.

Almost a league double double for Pulisic, who is now on 11 goals and 9 assists in Serie A play.
He's tied for 10th in goals, is 2nd in assists, and leads Serie A in chances created....

Yet he had a good 2-3 month stretch of poor play where it looked like he lost his legs for a bit. CP is really finding his game at Milan. If only the rest of the team could find theirs so he could win some hardware too.

An unbelievable league campaign.

Charlie Kelman was officially presented with his @SkyBetLeagueOne Golden Boot today, following his incredible goal scoring season

Kelman has the only goal so far in the League One promotion playoff semi final first leg.

It was a very controversial goal as it sounds like he was in an offside position. I have not seen a highlight yet. Does League One not use VAR?

I don't know if he was offsides. It's close

Kelman also had a late penalty to tie it at 2-2

oh that was MUCH closer that I expected given the out rage I saw online. VAR would have had to do the vasectomy to a fly to get that one right.
