US Men's National Team (28 Viewers)

The idea that Jedi was in discomfort enough to require surgery and that he made the EPL team of the season is pretty impressive. And this was an issue that went back months.

And explains why he kind of tapered off from his majestic heights the last stretch of the season. Also explains why he's not on the roster this summer.

Tillman the 3rd highest value in the Eredivisie according to transfermarkt:

Eredivisie market values: USMNT star Malik Tillman continues to rise

Rounding up the top three is US men's national team playmaker Tillman. The PSV star saw his market value increase by €2m to now €32m. Tillman managed 16 goals and five assists in 35 games across all competitions. Born in Germany but representing the United States, Tillman has been linked with a move to the Premier League and the Bundesliga. Without a doubt, PSV will demand a significant transfer fee to allow the 22-year-old to move on.

I wonder if he has the highest valuation on the entire Gold Cup squad? He may be second or third when including all players behind only Pulisic and maybe Jedi? With Jedi being older and being a LB he may actually be lower than Tillman.

Atletico Madrid lead the race to sign USMNT midfielder Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, per sources

- Nothing totally agreed yet, but talks between clubs continue
- Fee likely to be around €30m
- Spurs feel he prefers to stay in LaLiga

I'll say it again... There must be a LOT of off-camera positives happening that were not seeing when watching.

He played pretty well in the first half against Chelsea yesterday. Looked good IMO. Of course, he, along with all of Betis, got overrun in the second half.

Fulham and Pepi being linked in the media. It was said Pepi is going to have many suitors this summer.

PSV are expected to retain Pepi unless the offer gets to around 30m. The intention is that Pepi will be the starting striker for PSV next season.

Don't know if true or not but if true, it looks like Johnny will be good to go for the Gold Cup.

===========================

[Isaac Suarez] Johnny Cardoso has agreed personal terms with Atlético, although the deal can't be completed until July when Tottenham's preferential clause expires so he will miss the CWC.

Atleti expect the fee to be around €25M

I'm still a bit skeptical he has the level of skill to really be key for the USMNT, but the size and speed is just so fun: https://x.com/CharlotteFC/status/1928988382362800258
I wish he was a few years younger. At 24.5 he is probably getting close to his final form which as you say may be just short of being an impact player for the US.

Still, having a monster to throw in late is not the worst thing in the world to try and change things up when chasing a game.

U.S. Soccer Men's National Team
@USMNT

ROSTER UPDATE: Walker Zimmerman, Paxten Aaronson, and Nathan Harriel will replace Folarin Balogun, DeJuan Jones, and Sean Zawadzki for the #USMNT June Training Camp.
I noticed this only mentioned training camp and not the Gold Cup itself so I am a bit confused.

And even more confusing is the positional differences between the players who are out of camp and those that are joining.

We replaced Striker, LB and DM/CB, with a CB, RB and DM/8.

Well now with no Sargent, Pepi, or Balogun on the roster, Agyeman may even have a chance to start in the friendlies (him or White at this point? Not sure how Poch views Haji)

What a ****ing mess.

The US U18's are in a tournament with France, Argentina, Portugal, Australia, Senegal, Japan and Uruguay.

The US had their first game today against France. They coughed up a second half 2-0 lead over France, to end up 2-2. I assume there are no draws in this tournament because the game went to PK's and the US won.

Next up is Argentina. Last group stage game is against Australia.

1. Really happy Paxton is getting the call up. He should've been on the roster already.
2. No Balogun and we still don't call Sargent? Did he sleep with Poch's wife or something? No idea why he's not getting rewarded for a great season.
3. Who the F is Nathan Harriel?

How the hell did 3 guys get hurt already? If they were already hurting coming in, why were they called?

Yeah....glad Pax is there. Sargent has done everything necessary to earn a call up (especially on a depleted roster).

Losing more and more faith in Poch every day. The absolutely lowest bar you have to clear is calling the obvious players. Sarge is beyond obvious with Pepi and Balogun out.

I have no explanation for Sargent outside of maybe thinking that Poch did not like at all what he saw last camp from him.

And I also forgot about Downs, so even with Balogun being removed from the roster, we still have White, Agey and Downs as natural #9's which is more than enough, especially with Haji also on the roster.

We are lacking in wide forward offensive players in this camp. I am not looking forward to Brandon struggling again on the wing.

Poch prefers strikers that actually score.

Maybe Sargent wants to focus on club right now? Or Poch wants to send some sort of message to the whole group and had made his decision based on previous behavior in camp.

The Mathis Albert hype train continues as he has joined Dortmund's first team for training today with confirmation that he will be taken to the Club World Cup by Kovac (Dortmund coach).

He turned 16 just recently (late May).

Note that Cole Cambell was also back at practice after recovering from his injury. I did not see one way or another if Gio is involved or is out looking for a new team.

I can't read Poch too well yet, but replacing a lb with a rb may give us an indication that he intends to put Dest on the left.

Harriel has been a regular starter for Philly going back a ways. I think this is now his 4th year as a starter. He was also a starter on the Olympic team.

One could consider him a decent player. He does not do much wrong but rarely pops off the screen (say the way Freeman has this year). Maybe think of him like a poor mans Scally. If that sounds underwhelming, it probably should.

oh boy this is starting to get ugly. Poch is not really pulling any punches here in this interview and seems to be making a clear statement that not enough players care about playing for the USMNT.

idk about ugly, but it's a sentiment I'd love to see come through

I have been giving this some thought trying to figure out who he is talking about when thinking about the regulars.

Weah - Was not allowed to join the team

Weston - Was not allowed to join the team

Pepi - Hurt

Jedi - Coming off of surgery but surgery timing was chosen specifically to not interrupt club season.

Sargent - We don't know if this was coaches decision or players

Balogun - Either left camp or never joined camp due to injury

Pulisic - Clearly asked out of camp due to needing rest

Musah - Asked out of camp due to personal issue (which has rumored to be he is dealing with his club issues in trying to find a new team)

Poch's over riding issue of the players not treating camp and friendlies serious enough likely is pointing at the whole team. But I have a feeling the Pulisic and Musah absences pushed all the wrong buttons for Poch and it would not shock me if he was annoyed at the Jedi situation either since this is now the second straight camp he has missed due to the same issue.

He's played more CB than RB this year and his replacement at RB (Frankie Westfield) seems a better player. Westfield has sort have come out of nowhere and got a call to the U20s. He got his first YNT caps within the last year.

Also, interesting comp to Scally as Harriel is also probably best suited to playing the wide back three vs the wing back type of role Poch seems to favor. I think Scally not getting called and then having someone at his position pull out and still not getting a call, it's pretty clear Poch is sending a message (like with Sargent, Tessmann, Zendejas, and others) as someone like Harriel should have zero shot at making our WC roster.

I’m told that Tottenham has had talks with the New England Revolution about acquiring Peyton Miller.

This report comes on the heels of @ByDougMcIntyre saying that at least one English Premier League club is interested in buying the 17-year-old.

Will be tough playing for a relegation threatened team.

The “ah ciao” part certainly seems directly pointing at some one

🗣️ Mauricio Pochetino to @UnfilteredSoccr on Diego Luna:

"When Diego in the game in Orlando received an elbow in his nose, I saw he was like this… blood. And the doctor said to me (take him out). But he (Luna) said, 'Coach I want to play.' I said, 'But it’s a friendly game. Diego it’s a friendly game. Your nose.' I didn’t want to worry him. But I was like scared you know, it was like this (bleeding and broken), but it was amazing. And he convinced the doctor, 'Doctor, I can play. If you allow me to play, I want to play. Coach, I want to play.' And then in the half time, we’ll see. And then goes… fight. Crash with one guy after one was one of these. And then take the ball. Assist. That is what I want. It’s not a, 'Ah, Ciao.' No, that is what I want. That is the mentality. That is that you feel that the players play for nothing more than the pride to be a player. To defend their shirt”

Maybe, but I think Argentines use "ciao" to say goodbye. Many other south american countries use the term too, but I often see it written "chao" in chat format, even if it's incorrect.

If we're reading in between the lines then... Pulisic,Scally, Adams, Agy, and Weston were substituted in that game when we were down. If Pulisic is who he's referring to, then he's an idiot. Same with Adams.

Maybe it was Scally and that's why he's not getting a call up.

Weston was called out by GGG too, so that one maybe is believable. It wouldn't make sense to be making waves about it now though since he can't play this summer anyway.

I'm honestly just totally apathetic at this point. All the hope and enthusiasm I had for this group has just evaporated over the past year.

Between the injuries, guys stalling out and the complete lack of grit from the guys that actually do show up, there's just no point getting invested anymore. They got embarrassed in a home Copa and it's gonna happen again next summer. I've accepted that.

italian too .. hello/goodbye.

I see this as Poch saying others would just say "bye" and bag out if faced with something like that. Don't know that he's thinking of a specific player or not

I don’t think he was talking about other subs in that one game. I think he was more referring to an overall attitude that he clearly feels is lacking in the team as a whole which is why I think this one moment with Luna is mentioned multiple times by Poch.

As a side note, we don’t yet know how the roster will shake out next summer but it seems clear Luna’s display in that one game about fighting to play through the injury has made it much more likely for him to make the team, at least in Poch’s eyes.
