Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

I played ME1 and about 1/4 of ME2 a few years back. I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. I was also playing i a laptop at the time so a sub-optimal experience from that perspective. I have all 3 and will go back at some point and do it from the start.

Of course, I also have the Deadspace trilogy and Far Cry trilogy to work through as well, not to mention Witcher2 and a whole lot of others including Fallout 3 and Vegas and Skyrim starting to clamor for replays in my head.
I woul;dn't dare waste your time on Farcry (too dated) Farcry 2 (Way too big and 3 improves on it in every way), and even Farcry 3 gets old half way through when you get tired of raiding the outposts and climbing radio towers with tedious platform elements not intended for a FPS.

God I envy people like you who can just sit there with games like Fallout Vegas and not touch them. Ive been clamoring for everybody to please give Dark Souls a try (after you quit cause its too hard the first time) and Madshot just has it in his collection. I not only envy you but I also want to punch you in your eyesocket.

I've played Vegas. The last games were all games I played but want to go back and play again.

I've done Dark Souls. Didn't do it for me.

Starbound currently has me roped in much more than Minecraft ever did and it's only in a pre-release alpha state. Check it out if you liked Minecraft or Terraria at all.

I sat down to play Outlast for the first time last night. My girlfriend was watching on the couch and to heighten the mood, we turned the lights off. We both screamed at the first "pop out" moment and I was too freaked out to continue playing.

:scared:

I might try to digging into it again tonight with the lights on this time around and by myself. Watching someone else hiding behind a blanket doesn't help my nerves much.

:lmao:
I made my girlfriend sit next to me while I played last night. 10 minutes in (entirely underneath a blanket) she says, " #### this. I'm going to bed and I'm taking the dog with me." No way in hell was I gonna continue playing alone in the dark by myself. :bag:
:lmao:

Still I have to admit FEAR messed with me pretty good back in the day although I never scared myself bad enough to step away though.

Yea, but did you try it a second time? Lol- I'm half kidding as I tried it and quit it for a year before picking up again. Once I pushed through and figured out wtf was going on ot leapfrogged every game I've played this generation. Even better then Bioshock

No shame, good game if it got to you. Like I said FEAR had me pretty good not just quite that good.

I haven't played Outlast but it sounds a lot like Amnesia, which was certainly disturbing. It's tough when you can't just start blasting away at enemies.

I finished this last night. It's not a very long game, but it really packs in the atmosphere and knows how to seriously rattle the player.

I'll have to work my way up to this, but I'd like to take a stab at the Insane difficulty level. In addition to the enemies being tougher and more perceptive than on Normal, that difficulty setting disables all checkpoints and prohibits you from saving the game, so you have to play it all the way through in one sitting without dying. Dead Space 2 had something similar (no checkpoints, only three saves allowed) and it was a lot fun, injecting a huge amount of tension back into the game even after you've pretty much got it memorized.

Anyone play Skyrim on PC that could suggest any choice mods they use?

After playing TESO and turning on my 360 for the first time in years today only to find my original xbox copy of Morrowind in the disc tray I feel like getting back into Skyrim, I'm just not a fan of the core game, looking for any kind of overhaul mod.

Appreciate it.

Lately I've been playing Uncharted 2, Prototype 2 & Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. All of those games have very easy novice settings. That's the only way I can play these dang games now. I just don't have the finger dexterity or patience to play most of the newer games. Also, I'm getting to where I'm terrible at the quick time events. I'm just getting old!

Another one that I've enjoyed watching others play DayZ.
did not like Prototype 2 nearly as much as the first one. Got hung up on the story sucking, I suppose.

The scariest part of F.E.A.R. is when those dumb enemy solders would sneak up behind you and they would make their loud radio\helmet talk noise. Made me jump every GD time.

should all be searchable on nexus.

- all of the unofficlal patches are pretty much mandatory. They fix a lot of broken stuff. Get each one for every DLC you have.

- SkyUI - makes the UI much better and a lot of other mods actually require it.

- Frostfall - this is a big game changer. it makes the cold weather another challenge to overcome in the game. You cant go into snowy conditions without protective armor on, you have to make campfires to regain warmth, etc.

- Stealth Skills Rebalanced - A complete overhaul of the stealth system in Skyrim. Several changes to stealth skills, such as Lockpicking (gauntlets now cripple your lockpicking and pickpocket abilities). A pretty good mod if you're tired of being able to hide in plain sight from NPCs.

- Moontpath To Elsewyr - A lore-friendly quest into the reaches of Elsewyr. Includes a ton of cool stuff, and spiders (if you're scared of/don't like them, this is probably not for you). Also airships!

Immersive Patrols - Pretty much the best NPC mod out there, this mod adds a ton of NPCs to the game that fall into the game's faction system. You'll see Thalmor Agents fighting it out with Stormcloaks, skirmishes between Imperial Legionnaires and Stormcloaks, bloodbaths between Vigilants and Vampires, and more. Even more if you have Dawnguard and Dragonborn!

Wyrmstooth - Venture into the north on a mission from the East Empire Company ("The heartless bastards" - Teldryn Sero) to slay a dragon. Only things aren't so simple (as always in the world of The Elder Scrolls). Pretty well done, definitely worth a look!

Skyrim Perk Enhancements and Rebalanced Gameplay - The biggest skill/perk overhaul of this list. Automatic perks, new perks trees, re-balanced skill gains, etc. The goal of this mod was to make the tedious perks that everyone gets automatic, and then removes the perks that made the game less annoying instead of more fun.

Talk to me about FTL.

It is definitely a fun game that is easy to jump into but is it something that one actually wins? Seems like it is more like a traditional arcade game that you play until you die and then start over.

It also seems very difficult to build up resources in general. You don't have time to investigate all the relay points in a given system, which is fine, but that makes it quite difficult to ever build up a large crew or advanced ship. Again this does not take away from the game play, which is definitely addictive, but I am just wondering if I am missing something.

Is it possible to 'level up' to the point that you become a true bad ### or is it always a constant struggle just to survive?

it is hard to win, but like most rougelikes, that's the rub. if you wait to long in a zone, you die. if you speed through, you can't finish the game. a lot of it is luck in what you get in the early zones, and what style you like to play.

There is an end game. It's rogue-like which means that sometimes you get lucky with resources and sometimes you do not. When you get lucky, you can build a dominant ship and crew. One of the keys is to be flexible in your strategy. Build to what you find - don't try and build a boarding ship if all you are finding are missiles.

Yeah, luck of the draw does seem to factor in quite heavily.

So if I get a lot of crew early I should push for the teleporter. Makes sense.

Always running SkyUI and the unofficial patches. Not a fan of realism mods, nothing wrong with them though. I like the idea of being able to go to Elsewyr. Definitely gonna check out SPERG, the vanilla skill trees and perk system are pretty boring imo.

Current load order:

Dawnguard

Hearthfires

Dragonborn

SPIKE

SkyUI

Immersive Armors

Crossbow overhaul

Achieve That

Alternate Start

SPERG

So apparently the makers of Left 4 Dead have been working on a new 4 player co-op survival shooter, with competitive multiplayer except instead of having 4 survivors vs 4 infected you have 4 hunters vs one large beast.

Evolve (cinematic teaser)

Based on L4D I have an idea of what to expect, but the setting looks amazing. Game really snuck up on me, hadn't heard a single thing about it until today.

Another Evolve writeup: http://kotaku.com/four-players-are-co-op-heroes-the-fifth-is-their-giant-1520094796

This was the coolest blurb for me:

As we played, everyone got better at playing as the monster, to the point where we started to understand the choke points in the map, the good hunting grounds, the best ways to sneak up on the hunters, etc. It'd take me at least a half-dozen more go-rounds to really get my head around the whole map, though. At one point, we played as hunters and our "monster coach" from 2K took us on and absolutely destroyed us by mostly using the monster's stealth mode so that we couldn't track him easily. Some other people from 2k also told me a story of how 2K's best monster player took on Turtle Rock's best team of hunters. He apparently went in cocky, sure that he could take them down, but they broke out strategies he'd never even heard of and wrecked him. It sounds like there'll be room for some very high-level play in Evolve.

Rift is not much fun.
I was just talking to a buddy who has been playing it. He said it's pretty much WoW with a different story and not as cartoony. And a few different mechanics.

So it sounds like if you're not a WoW type gamer you probably wouldn't like it.
It's the most legit F2P MMO on the market right now. You can't buy the best gear/content with $, you have to still run the raids.

L4Ds comp multiplayer had surprising depth on both sides aswell.

I don't normally like co-op games, but this one has me interested.

Got my new NHL and MLB games along with Minecraft and Deus Ex Human Revolution. NHL not opened yet.

The MLB (it was 12 I think - the one with Verlander on the cover) is very well done. Solid baseball game.

Minecraft is mindnumbingly boring as hell and I wanted to stick a pencil in my eye watching the kids play, but my son loves it so I guess.

When everyone went to bed I booted up Deus Ex. It's a whole new experience for me so I watched everything and didn't even get close to past the very first terrorist attack that starts the story. But the game seems to be really really fun. As long as the story continues the way it seems like it is going to, I will give props to Andy D.

IF not, I'm voting for the other guy.

Need some help with my gaming PC. I know this box is on it's last legs, bought almost 5 years ago, and pretty impressed it's still going strong. I'm trying to hold out on getting a new PC until I'm ready to buy Witcher 3 as the video card (Radeon HD 4870) still seems to run games pretty well at high resolution. However, recently I'm having a problem on games when I go to high resolution my PC power cycles. On games like ME3 I had to drop the resolution down to 1280x720 to not have power shut off. I went to some old stuff like ME2 where I know I used to play in 1920x1080 and the same thing happens, so it's not the new game graphics, but I think it's likely my power supply going bad.

So basically I'm looking for a quality cheap power supply replacement so I can try and keep this thing going a little while longer. It currently has a 475W PS, it's a Dell, so they put in the bare minimum, so I'm thinking a 550W or 650W at most.

Any suggestions? Taken a couple look at Corsair, they have a 500W on new egg for $40 that may be my best bet, but figured I'd ask around.

Also, i'll be buying my next pc, not building, so I wouldn't want to get a really nice one that could be the start of a future build.

could be a heating problem also. clogged heatsink, fans spinning slow, etc.

Already checked the fans and blew everything out with compressed air, so I think it's a ps issue.

What is the next big game us PS4 owners are buying? I don't foliow upcoming releases closely. Assassins Creed looks fun, is that worth getting into? I do like multi-player games mostly.
Infamous is coming out next month, but I'm pretty sure it's SP-only. I liked the first two games, and I'll definitely get the new on at some point, but its the kind of game that I usually hold off on until it hits the $30 point or so.

I enjoyed Assassins Creed. It does a nice job of being a pirate simulator. IMO the weakest parts are when it becomes just another AC game (e,g, follow some schmuck without getting spotted, eavesdrop on a conversation, and kill somebody). Didn't touch the multiplayer.

The one I'm waiting for is Driveclub. I haven't played an arcade-type racer in quite a while, and I've got the itch now. That one is going to have a free but somewhat stripped-down "PS+ Version."

Looking further down the road, there's The Order (exclusive, SP-only) and Evolve (multiplat, MP-only I think). There's been some speculation that we might see Uncharted 4 this fall, but who knows. I'm sure there will be lots of announcements at E3.

Edit: Also, I think Thief comes out in March. The gameplay I saw looked cool -- think Dishonored -- but that game seems to be flying under everybody's radar and hasn't been marketed very aggressively. Not sure what to make of that.

Probably Infamous if that's your sort of thing.
are you going to make fun of me if it is? im getting the impression that you will.

also, i believe World Of Tanks came out on Xbox360 today. I'm pretty geeked about that.

No, whatever floats your boat.

I think the only gamers I take issue with are the ones that tell me how awesome Madden is.

Best Buy has deals on XBox Gold and PS+, and Walmart is offering a free game with an XBO purchase:

http://kotaku.com/titanfall-pre-orders-new-humble-weekly-psn-live-eshop-1521402975
Where? I can't find anything on this.
Really? It's listed after the games up top.

Edit: It appears only the PS+ offer is from Best Buy. The XBox Live Gold deal is directly from MS.

If you need to re-up your various gaming subscriptions, Microsoft will sell you a year of Xbox Live Gold for $40, or you can get a $10 PlayStation promo code with your $50 purchase of PlayStation Plus from Best Buy. Xbox Live Gold (12 Months) | $40 or PlayStation Plus (12 Months) | $50 + $10 Promo Code
