Vikes ? Eagles (1 Viewer)

This isn't about the game, it's about the families and employees traveling to the game. You all need to gain some perspective.
No it isn't. Its not even snowing here. People could have made it there just fine
And the brunt of the storm wasn't suppose to start until after Sunset..
this forecast has been a moving target, which means that the weater forecasters are still not sure.. yes, it may snow in Philly- oh dear me- but 20 inches????? yesterday it was 3-5 inches.. then it was 12-24.. now it is back to 8-12 inches.. we will see.. I hope it fizzles and Mayor Nutter looks like a jackass for panicing before a single flake fell..

...which is basically what this is all about. has nothing to do with the spirit of the game or lombardi rolling in his grave. everyone crying here is pissed that they're gonna get ramrodded by vick in favorable conditions.
The NFL wants to see Vick shine in a national spotlight. He's the "feel good" story of the year for the NFL, after Roethlisberger raped that girl, all the concussion press, and the negative press from the labor talks. Vick on a clean field makes all those other stories move to the back burner. The NFL has a tradition of playing the game no matter what the weather. This is an unheard of postponement. The NFL never postpones games because of weather. Ice, fog, snow, blizzard, whatever. The NFL always plays. They wouldn't postpone this game in Buffalo!

Roger Goodell has Vick on his Fantasy Team. THANK YOU ROGER!!

Your user name is really accurate :pickle:FYI I'm in NJ 30 min NE of the stadium, already about an inch on the ground. Those saying public transit will accommodate people fine obviously have no experience with Philly or SEPTA.

Again, all he's managed to do is open a can of worms he doesn't want to open. This WILL set a precedent.

will this game count towards week 16 in most leagues? how can we find out?
nfl has stated that this is a week 17 game for fantasy purposes and the eagles and vikes will be considered to have played 2 week 17 games.
huh?
does anyone have info on this? my commish just posted to our league that Tuesdays stats count for week 16 to cover us.
NEW YORK (AP) The NFL has moved the Vikings at Eagles game from Sunday night to Tuesday because of an expected blizzard that could dump up to 20 inches snow on Philadelphia. The game will be played at 8 p.m. EST.Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter declared a snow emergency as of 2 p.m. EST Sunday. The NFL has moved to inform all Fantasy Football commissioners across the country that the game is to be treated as a 2nd week 17 game for statistical purposes. Attempts are being made to contact all affected leagues. Greg Aiello states that the NFL will override all Fantasy commissioner decisions to make the Tuesday game a week 16 event.

yep.. bad weather?? :football: NFL NEEDS TO CANCEL!! :)

Yup, we don't get any snow in winter.
:football: My point is you get snow ALL THE TIME in Wisconsin. Cleaning off roads and laying salt is nothing even with 20 inches coming down. It's a helluva lot different on the East Coast. I'm in NC right now and 7 inches makes the state look deserted.

there is 20 inches of snow in Philly already?? Bottom line, the mayor paniced, the NFL followed, and both will look terrible tomorrow if we get the originally prediceted 8-12 inches of snow, which is fairly common every winter in Philly.. :) the mayor is such an attention whore..

YesSomeone injured at a later time travelling to-fro a game in a weather situation now has a precedent to point to when a lawyer convinces him to file suit.

It is really pretty unbeliveable how many people here have not a clue!!! What do you not understand about the word EMERGENCY??????

EMERGENCY WORKERS NEED PEOPLE OFF THE STREET SO THEY CAN DO THEIR JOBS.

Lets presume that somebody in the area has a heart attack or a house fire or something else that requires attention...if the roads are clogged up and people cannot move their cars even if they want (something that can actually happen in a SNOW EMERGENCY) then we are just going to let people die for a football game. A football game that can very easily be moved two days down the road.

I don't know what some of you are thinking, but this is the reality here. The NFL is in a situation where if they play the game and something awful happens that can be connected in anyway to their decision to play, they will be liable in the court of public perception...why would the uber-image conscience Goodell be such a moron as to take that risk? I know that is an easy risk for you to take while you sit in front of your computer and sip lattes, but for him it is a lot different.

you do not have the clue- the only reason there is an EMERGENCY is because an attention whore mayor said so.. it is not even snowing yet!!! Nobody would a bat an eye if this game was played, however, now that the precedent is set, get ready for a "NFL Weather Committee" to make decisions on future games..

If it wasn't a flex game, it would have been played. But since they're saying the storm will be at it's worst from 8-midnight, they cancelled it.

I agree with you Parrot. Meatwad is falling prey to the propaganda being fed to him that there is immense danger out there that we must protect ourselves against or for heaven's sake a terrible calamity will befall us. All of this fear mongering is being conjured up by government workers and/or bureaucrats or lawyers who have only this type of situation to justify their pathetic professional existance. Poor schmucks out there mindlessly buy into this mumbo jumbo drivel about mitigating risk, etc. while they fail to look back at how history shows minimal evidence of weather related catastrophes that could justify shutting down all social or civic activity. Sheeple are becoming drones.

I would still rather play the game as scheduled, but to say that it's not snowing at all is inaccurate. I think that a lot could be done between now and gametime to make road conditions safe.

In what world does two teams playing two games in one week make sense?

I'm not sure what this is, but it sure sent me in a scramble with 15 minutes left until waivers locked. I am curious how the live scoring will work.

Agreed, it does not sound reasonable

NFL week ends on Monday. Not sure why this is so hard for people to grasp.

 yep.. many were there already
The city didnt want to have to bring more workers in and pay all this overtime to keep the roads clear from now until 1 am. It's all about money and politics

hence the attention whore mayor declaring a snow emergency early..

It's far more important that a week = a game per team (except bye weeks). If they're allowed to reschedule a week 16 game for Tuesday, that's still a week 16 game.

Eagles are getting screwed here. Simple as that.

In other news I read someone on twitter posted the monday night game is being canceled due to darkness

Anyone who thinks that the Tuesday game will count as a week 17 game.....I got some quality ENRON stock for you.

This site needs a :sucker: smiley.
I'm definitely in the sucker category on this one, but I'm also gonna be really interested to see how the scoring functions of the websites handle it. Certainly might need to be some manual corrections to be made, and with that, some owners/players who cry foul if the stats are funky. So no harm in having things covered so there's no questions on championship week.

They seriously postponed a game due to snow? Absurd.
:loco: the latest forecast I heard for the Philly area was 10-14 inches.. hardly an emergency worthy of setting a precedent for the NFL..
Didnt they just have fans in minnesota shoveling out the stadium? It is a joke. I can see center city from my house. There is maybe an inch on the ground right now. The city has plows, they usually are out salting before snow is coming. Pure fail on the city and nfl on this overreaction.

The Nanny State is alive and well in the City of Brotherly Love and the NFL is may well have been duped by it.

I know. Last year we had 6ft of snow dumped in a 3 week period. Now that is when you declare a state of emergency. This crap is absurd

why is it so hard for you to understand that you've been punked?

I'm certain they could play this game in the snow. At issue is probably the fact that the league doesn't think the fans can make it to the game in those conditions. So to accommodate the fans, they moved the game to tuesday.
